Saboteurs, Alphabeti, or just methbillies at it again?

That's most likely an outside parameter gate that was used when the Substation was under construction, and after the modern chain link fence, gate, etc. was installed, it most likely just remained unlocked and open until the base rotted away and it fell down.

Problem is 99% of the Substation in the USA are only protected by chain link fences. There are those that have tall block or concrete walls, mainly in areas where they are in residential area, and those solid walls serve the purpose of just blocking an ugly view.

You can only put soo much protection and security into a substation before it becomes cost prohibitive.

Unfortunately, our critical infrastructure in this country, and many others is an easy target for vandalism, thieves, terrorist, and military strikes.
You mean to tell me that gate is not even a primary means of security for the area?

Well then . . . why on Earth would they use that photo in the story?

Oh . . . wait . . . nevermind. It is just the media doing what the media does.

And getting more delicate. Our town was fleeced for millions building a coal plant. Our "leadership" made sure we decommissioned our old power plant before the new one was even running. The people building the new one were very vocal that it would never run. They were right. That own spent a year, many parts and several explosions trying to get it running. The company who built it declared bankruptcy after building several plants, and selling everything they had worth anything. The people of the town got stuck with the bill. It sat idle for a decade until it was sold to a scrap company last year and torn down. Now instead of our town generating electrify. We only buy it from outside sources.
Sounds intentional

I worked for GE Power for 26 years. 20 of it as a transformer repair technician. We rebuilt the power transformers like these. We would get some every year that had been shot thus draining the dielectric from them and causing them to fail. During the late 90s/early 00s they started shutting down the transformer factories and moved production to Mexico. We did a lot of warranty work on those early GE-Prolec units. The utility there should have a mobile substation they could set in place. We used to have an 18 wheeler rental we would send out when substations went down for temporary power. Shouldn't be too surprised that they don’t have any backup plans like they used to back in the dark ages.😕

I’m not sure if I linked this or not

Why don’t they just create another Department

“DES”
“Department of Electric Security
or
“DPGS”
“Department of Power Grid Security”

Why not seems like logical government thing to do!

I often wonder where most cops would “draw the line” on unconstitutional laws and say to themselves “I just can’t go home look at my kids, my wife and myself if I do this” I am sure it’s different for every man, but just how bad does it have to get before you can’t live with yourself. I guess a better question is how much are we as a society willing to put up with before we are willing to risk everything like our forefathers did….

test runs….??

Both this and Moore county “attacks” were in areas where lots of black Tahoe’s are running around and no one pays them no never mind.

well said. and all the cops could do was glare at him. I wonder if they realized how true his words were, or if they're so brainwashed that they discount everything.
It doesn’t matter if they realize the truth or not. They are gov’t true believers and will do their job regardless of their own thoughts and feelings. A man doesn’t join gov’t because he is a self thinker and values independence and liberty as the environment isn't conducive to this type of person. “Yes” men thrive inside of gov’t. Our government at all levels is a cesspool of corruption. A decent man would never willingly work to empower this murderous criminal organization. Using LEO as an example, even the so called “good” cops share information and resources, including, manpower with the criminal feds. This includes your local police as well. They literally aide domestic terrorists.

It has never been lost on me that those that are put on a pedestal for somehow keeping us safe and upholding the constitution, gave away their own personal sovereignty to carry a gun to empower the state which ironically is what they would have to fight against to do so. The enemy of freedom literally writes their paycheck. Where do you think their loyalty lies?

Could also be like the rash of "food plants" catching fire that everyone freaked out about a few months ago. It was the Eat Bugz set... they're interrupting the food chain... yeah... it was reporting on random events. Because as many food plants as we have in America... ranging from a Toaster Strudel Manufacturing to small mom and pop places.... some will burn every year. But if the news or Chatterati... start talking about it 24 x 7... it becomes a good source of fear. And fear is what sells papers and gets people elected who say "Elect me and I'll make the fear go away." While actually ramping it up... to get elected again.

I think in my little town, there are about 5 installations big enough to be called 'substations.' Not including the big ones that feed just the ski resort.

So how many substations are there in the USA? 100,000? 500,000? 1,000,000? How many 'choke points' for a region or community are there? Because when you get into numbers like those... you get random bullshit like hillbillies or kids or (yes Antifa shitbags) shooting them now and then. I've heard incidents many times over the years... "Hunter shoots Transformer..." "Kids shoot power lines with squirrel rifles." It has happened since stupid people have been around electrical lines. One of the incidents, BTW, looks more like disgruntled former employee than Alphabetti. But who knows!

I'd like to know the statistics on 'things that take out substations.' Rodents? Birds? Cars-running-into-critical poles? Sasquatch? Dumbasses lighting fires in California canyons? Lightning?

Maybe some of our electrical members can chime in. I agree that the grid is probably running on a knife edge... driven by profitibility vs. rates vs. security... Noone will happily say "I'll pay double for my electricity so folks can add more security to their plants." They think it's already there. Or should be. The net of it is... failure and power outages happen. They happen for a lot of reasons. Including dumbasses shooting at infrastructure. Or vandalism. Or random acts of nature.

What's the breakdown? Is that kept 'secret?' Probably should be. How many shootings a year are 'typical?' What are other leading causes? What are the main causes? And what's noise level... but makes for super-exciting headlines that scream "Ban AR-15's" because of "POWER GRID!" It's about the Children. Fur zee Kinder!

But before I go all "Terrorists are about to take down our grid..." Folks this is a distraction from "Lame Duck Congress about to give Amnesty to 2 million illegals, put them on a track to citizenship and give them the vote, and if you say anything about it, you are a racist white Trump-supporting terrorist who is training to take out a Soccer Mom's power and baby-cam so we are justified in destroying their lives, diarming them and putting them in camps where we can extract their teeth." You want soccer mom Karens to start screaming "Disarm the country..." turn off their Internet for 4 hours.

The louder they are shouting this stuff, the more it looks totally made-up to me. Hype a non-event to cover up the main event.

Need to decentralize power plants.

Used to be a time each town had their own generating plants and a failure effected a single population not a region.

The ones in Florida happen back in September. They just made it public a couple days ago. I think I'm with @sirhron this being a distraction.

Sparky sparky is my business. The average mouth breather has no fucking clue how delicate our grid is. I can't emphasize enough how close to the stone age Tammy and the Starbucks bunch really are.
Similar background and totally agree.

That shows just how venerable we are. Imagine willing to die terrorists, in 20 two man teams, travelling around the country, jsut causing havoc. To say more would be as dumb as violating the ITAR, no point in giving anyone ideas.
Much of the information is already in the public domain and *not ITAR controlled* Maggot.
I took several threat and vulnerability classes for a masters degree, doing research and publishing papers. There is substantial credible data, most often from the service providers and public filings every helpful to bad guys. Makes you wonder.
(one public doc described vulnerabilities and the actions to take down 70% of a particular Pacific state‘s grid for months with a dozen simple near-simultaneous actions.) WTF? Just some of the not-ITAR-controllable info that’s out there.

But it’s not just the electric grid.
Natural gas and petroleum pipelines and midstream pumping stations in remote areas are virtually un-protectable.

A little good news: The telecom grid Is pretty robust (until the backup generators run out of fuel.). So you can FaceTime while you freeze to death.

As a derivative of that research, this post, quoting research and general results from work done at an institute of higher learning, is exempted from ITAR controls per 22 CFR 122.1(b)(4).

PS: You can also thank the “inventor of the internet” Al Gore for publishing substantial *CNWDI* Critical Nuclear Weapons Design Information on the Internet in his open government initiative. You’ll be able to thank him for the first non-state / rogue-state sponsored nuke used on US soil.

Copper thieves hit substations constantly. Sometimes they cut things out which go unnoticed for weeks, or until the next inspection. Other times what they cut is noticed/felt immediately. Occasionally they cut something or climb and grab, and don't survive.

Know some guys at a local municipality.
They had a crackhead cutting 10 foot sections of 350 primary and hauling them over the fence to stack them.
He made more than a few trips.
Can't say he was lazy, Lol.
