Looking at buying a new car. Just trying to gauge the market.

Hyundai is offering 0% for 36 months now to Jan 3rd, so I'm assuming the market is getting soft, quickly or it's a end of year thing?

    Looking at:

    Toyota Rav4 Prime
    Toyota Highlander AWD 2.5 turbo
    Hyundai Sante Fe w/ 2.5t
Ford Maverick has me interested but don't know much about it.

More interested in your experience with the actual market, not so much opinions on what to buy, but this is the Pit and it's impossible to stop you fockers from getting off topic and arguing. 🥸

Forced induction is nearly a must because 5280. *The Rav4 Prime is hybrid w/ 301 HP and should be fairly peppy at altitude due to electric motors. AWD/4WD is pretty much a must.

Will be selling/trading my 2014 Tacoma Sport w/ supercharger (113,000).

Every vehicle you asked about has me questioning your sexuality... but it's a new age where that's none of my business... Toyota is your answer. Everything they make is dead fucking reliable. Hyundai is easily stolen like Kia. Seriously look into Kia boys. Teens will be riding that Hyundai straight to a stint in juvy. That's a joke that's not really a joke.

Good point. I totally forgot how easy it is to steal a Hyundai/Kia.

Helping son-in-law buy Honda ridgeline. Prices holding tight. $2.5K under MSRP after crap dealer add-ons. Loans on 2023 4.9% for 60month. Half down makes monthly reasonable..

Market is starting to get soft. Honestly, the only thing still selling like hot cakes outside of rare or exotic is Toyota Tacoma's. I'm hearing grumbling that the financial world is going to get very turbulent sometime first quarter 2023.

I would sell your Tacoma vs trade in as used Tacoma's are selling at crazy prices right now. And a dealer isn't going to give you more than what blue book says it's worth.

Unfortunately, I had to buy the wife a new Pilot like a month ago. Car market sucks ass but I think it is getting better. I knew that would happen as soon as I had to pay out the ass. Got a 2022 Honda Pilot slightly used. Still paid $40k out the door. Dealers suck ass now more than ever. Trying to sell shit that has clearly been sitting for a long time and looks like shit. Used market even worse for the most part. This used one was the best I could find and it wasn’t perfect either but some people are just fucking crazy. Several of them wanted me to pay them a competitive market fee of $10,000. I told them to go fuck themselves. I wasn’t paying that. What is it you ask? Well they explained to me that because they had the car on the lot and it was in high demand that I should pay them the $10,000 above sticker simply because they did indeed have it and were willing to sell it to me. I can also tell you I will never buy another Honda because a friend of mines brother is a high up at Honda and says they have intentionally been withholding shipping new cars to lots to create this false hyper demand crap so they can charge these insane prices. Know who made record profits all during the pandemic? Honda. So yeah. Good luck. I’d recommend not buying a new car if you can avoid it.

Used Toyota’s were even worse. I wanted a 4Runner but the cheapest I could find was a 2017 with almost 100k on it and they still wanted $37,800 for it. A 6 year old SUV with 100k on it for almost $40k? No thanks.

Should have sold my truck a year ago. It was worth more than I paid for it. I have a 2020 Chevy Colorado Zr2 Bison. At this point it's probably considered "Highly Modified ". Last year it blue booked for 3k more than I bought it for. Now it's worth less than MSRP. Even though I've got thousands into building it up better than limp dick engineers and marketing folks.

Crazy market, we keep getting offers to buy our 2020 GMC back for what we paid or more. Of course, what they want us to replace it with probably costs twice what we paid. Think I’ll stick around with what we have for a while.

The Vehicle the GMC replaced is still a daily driver of sorts, a 2000 3/4 ton Suburban with almost 300,000. Brenda said she could no longer trust it for trips to our son’s home (500 miles) after it had one (1) breakdown on a local road. A through dashboard heater hose fitting tube gave it up, and the old girl still got me back to a safe parking area over a mile away without overheating.

Gotta love old workhorses that keep on keeping on.

Where are you located if you don't mind sharing?

Ironically, my wife has a 2017 4Runner Trail w/ about 70K on it. Maybe we'll sell hers too. 🥸 She wants a BMW or Lexus. Was toying about getting a GX460.

Worked for a Hyundai dealer for awhile. They are trash. Never seen so many warranty motors. I ordered probably two a week. I know it was mostly Sonotas.
Had a 2012 Sonata w/ the 2.0t. No issues w/ mine but it was a lease, so only three years. They gave good money to leave a few months early as that model was in big demand. Car was focking quick but didn't handle very well.

It's off the list due to how easy and frequent they get stolen.

Ok I had an Accent with no issues I drove to 70,000 miles. But I’m telling you they are trash. Every mechanic that worked with me talked about how they never understood Hyundai never made it on the news for how many motor failures they had.

Only reason we could figure is they replaced motors with no complaints. The guys even said they had cars with multiple motors they installed.

Pretty much. I'm just testing the waters though. I may end up just keeping it.

    Keep it.

Interest rates are going up, and everything built in the last 2 years seems to be trash.

I used to work at a dealership. They only give out the interest rate deals to premium credit ratings and only on the models not selling. Why would they offer you a deal on their good cars that sell well?

If I can get 300k + out of my Chevy's, your Toyota can do it.

You do need to keep up on maintenance though. Stuff will break. However, it's not the 80's anymore and vehicles regularly do 4-500k before they're totally shot now. Decent full synthetic oil in everything and wear goes down so much it's amazing.

I had a 2006 sonata after 10 years 125K miles no issues. Only used synthetic oil with 5K changes. Was so happy actually bought a 2016 sonata.

    820+ credit score.

I've run Mobil1 since the first oil change and change every 5000 and hit the zerks on the drive shafts. Pretty good about maintenance. Did the tranny flush, coolant, transfer case, diffs, plugs and front brakes about a year ago when I hit 100,000. Not one issue beyond maintenance since I bought. Third battery, about a week or so ago, and a serpentine belt at 80,000. It was showing wear. I'm thinking some new coil overs and shocks and just keeping it though.

I started to look at the Mavrick, Ford is adding a $5000 market adjustment fee on top of MSRP (Roch/Buff NY area) fuck Ford.

those are all great cars if you are a teenage girl or a homosexual.

the current market sitrep is this: interest rates are 6% or more, which affects your monthly payment; and gasoline prices are awful, which affects your monthly cost of ownership. decent used cars are almost as expensive as new cars, and many new cars are dropping features because of chip issues, in addition to multiple price hikes in the last calendar year. So you are paying much more for less. Plus, by 2026 30% of new cars will be electric, so your resale value will suck.

The more shit you add, the less it's worth.

I never buy modified used vehicles. I want the bone stock one to modify myself. I don't need to strip things I don't like and redo work from a crappy shop (learned this the hard way, wiring is a mechanics kryptonite).

Only mod I've ever kept in a truck is a big sky ceiling rifle rack.

The worst thing about the Colorado is the flimsy frame that bends if you look at the bump stops wrong. That was the biggest used value killer on them for a long time. Not that they sell very well to begin with, we sold 10x more fullsizes than canyons.

These dealershits are gonna have people so upside down in vehicles, that when the dust settles, nobody will be able to afford a new car at the standard 2-3 yr mark like years past. No worries, govt bailouts will prop them up.

Don't forget the supercharger oil. That is something often overlooked.

My old truck has a single battery with more miles and age than your truck. Buy a Deka/East Penn next time. It's impressed me enough to never go with anything else.

I'd keep it until they quit selling gas. It has another 30+ years in it at your rate.

A new set of coil-overs properly tuned will have it riding like a new truck. Maybe treat yourself to a new chunk of foam in the driver's seat for that new truck feel.

I bought one about 3 weeks ago. I would not say they are desperate. But, mine was a pre-negotiated deal for 6% off MSRP on an Audi Q5. Get the EV tax rebate before Jan 1 if you make money.

I have bought 2 new Tacomas this year.

First one in February. In My area Toyotas sell as fast as they are unloaded off the truck. Some dealers had 10k mark ups and had none on the lot. Only 2 dealers near me sold at MSRP. They had almost no inventory. The Tacoma I bought in February was totaled in July.Insurance paid out 3k more than I paid for the truck.

Second one I bought in August. Same situation. Very little inventory to choose from. still selling as fast as they come off the truck. Some dealers asking crazy mark ups over MSRP

I don't think inventory will improve any time soon. Go with Toyota. Its a quality product with good resale value. Now may be the time to buy I hear Toyota is raising prices next year.

Good luck with the prime, months out, hybrid the same, unless something changed in the last couple of weeks, I have a 21 Rav hybrid they have plenty of power, wanted to upgrade to the prime no real date on when one will appear that is not already sold.

Don't be afraid to look outside your market area for better deals.

I bought a one year old vehicle just last week. Traveled 15-hours one way to get it.

Did quite a bit of market analysis, and watched (AutoTrader) for weeks to see were inventory was moving, and where it's stagnant. Called many dealerships and started haggling over the phone.

It's a shell game when trading in another vehicle, but l ended up getting the vehicle for for less than what KBB showed as trade in value, and was given retail price for my trade in, saving around $15K. Yes, I know that sounds crazy as it's usually the opposite, pay retail, and only get a fraction of retail on the trade-in.

I couldn't sell my old vehicle locally being a 2008, even though it had only 35K miles, no one was interested, and dealers were just giving me low-ball offers to buy it outright without a trade in.

Picture of my new ride, with the trade in behind it as I'm pulling the last of my personal items out. Only 200 imported in Dark Magnetic Gray, and the last year of production. Getting oversized 275/65-18's installed on it Friday. Will be putting the Bilstein 6112-5160 suspension upgrade on it soon.

Good friend just bought a new F150, had it on order for over a year. Was trading in a toyota 4 runner with low miles. His out the door price was 10k. He said they really wanted the 4 runner.

    Waste of money.

Unless you do all the filtration, oil analysis, and run it 50k+. Mobile 1 is plenty good enough and you can afford to change it.
Only way to make amsoil affordable is to become a dealer.
I have 'preferred customer' status and get a big price break so its actually less than Mobile One and a better product. I change every 10K or so. I had a buddy who drove his 18 wheeler with the filtration system and sent in samples. He ran 180K before a change.

I want to like the Ridgeline but:
    1) Tow capacity for trailering a 2800lb & steel trailer
    2) doesn't get much, if any, better mileage than say an F-150.

Raising prices? 🤣 they fucking crazy! Their shit is already beyond high for what it is, imo. I’ve always owned Toyota’s because I’ve always thought they were well built and lasted. But they are very simple compared to options on other cars! With that said that’s one thing I really like about them. But raising their prices even higher than they already are is insane! This has to stop at some point. Frankly I don’t know how people afford them as is. Run of the mill SUVs in my area new were easily approaching $60k-$70k. And I’m sorry but I don’t feel as if any daily driver is worth that kind of coin.

When I bought my Toyota, after the negotiation, getting the price to a reasonable number, I told the salesman that I’d buy it today if they gave me 0% interest for 5 years. They did it. Ask them. The worst they can say is no.
I tried that after offering to pay cash money and they chuckled and said they wouldn’t make any money whether I paid outright or financed at 0%. In other words that are pushing the high interest financing because in his words that’s the only way they are making any money!

Direct injection only engines especially ones with any form of forced induction should be thought of in the same manner as a disposable lighter.
So guessing you'd put my 6.2L '14 Roush Raptor in that category?

Looks really nice! What did you wind up paying? At the end of the day, I know Ford has come a long way, but it’s still a Ford. I owned a few 2006 and older and well they were always problematic and left a lot to be desired! With that said, today’s Ford is not the same but I haven’t felt I could make the jump. That Expedition looks pretty sweet tho!
