7mm PRC

So ma
I did get to 3100 fps with a 24.5” 1-8 twist barrel, RCC brass using the 180gr ELDM, 67.5grs of R26/215M primers,

DEFINITE OVER PRESSURE SIGNS AT THAT LOAD.

I stopped at that load in my testing.
So maybe with a slightly longer barrel it’s possible with no pressure… I thought RCC was done for …

What is your load that you decided on?

As always you’ll have to test and load develop in your own rifle to determine what’s safe, I’m just pointing out 3100fps with a 180gr bullet is definitely on the upper limits of this cartridge.

Yes I was lucky enough to receive my RCC brass, I know a cpl chaps not so lucky before they closed up, they took their money and that’s the last they heard from them.

On black Friday I ordered two prefit PVA Osprey barrels. They are 1.20" full straight contour and 26" length. They are going to get cut to 18" and 20" and get LRI Murder Hornet fluting. I will running suppressed.

I was able to pick up two boxes of factory match ammo. I'll have 20 once fired pieces of brass for each barrel to reload.
Primers I have cci200, cci250, fed 215, fed GMM215, fed gmm210, Winchester wlr, Winchester wlrm.
Bullets I have Hornady 162gr eldm, Berger 175gr eh, Berger 180gr vld.
Powder I have H1000, Retumbo, H4831sc, 7828ssc, n555, n565, n568, n570

Now ADG just needs to make brass.

That's impressive. I wonder in hornady brass if you could get that speed? I know rcc brass is tough
Originally the first loads I tested I was only getting 3050fps at the 66.5gr load but last time out it’s settled at 3100fps, I’m at a little over 200 rounds on the barrel.
I have some factory 175gr ELDX ammo to try out as well.

Awesome I'm curious what the factory ammo will do. Gotta love the extra speed from barrel speed ups lol

Is N570 expected to work well in the 18” barrel? I figured it would be too slow. I ask because I have an 18” carbonsix on the way and pile of N570. I was planning on using H1000.

I would choose a fast powder in a 18 inch. I have good luck w N570 in my 7 MAX w 26 inch barrel.

Not sure if this has been posted yet or not. Probably worth a look...

Those are just suggestions and hornadys findings with a 24” barrel. All rifles are different

Yeah. Suggestions generated by calibrated pressure and velocity test barrels. Velocity isn't free. 20-30fps per inch of barrel length. The rest of the delta is almost directly related to differences in peak pressure.

I'll be interested to see your velocities, I'm back and forth on 18" vs 20" for a light-ish suppressed 7 PRC hunting build. Kind of leaning 20" now for a smidge less blast in case I'm traveling for a hunt and have to leave the can behind.

I'll keep everyone posted. My can is still in jail so I'll be playing with them braked until it's free. My can is also 9" long so that's one of the reasons for the 18".

The question is whether or not to play with them while full length before sending off for cutting and fluting?

All barrels are different, bore diameters from one manufacturer to the next can vary, reamer specs and FB can vary, brass, powder and primers can vary from lot to lot,,, all effecting pressure!

THIS IS WHY WE WORK UP

I have seen factory rifles run into PRESSURE issues w factory pressure TESTED ammo

Every rifle is different. Every barrel and reamers. I've been unlucky here lately and seem to be getting slower barrels that pressure out faster than others.

Looks like n570 is giving the speed… never used it. Hell never see. It in stock .
How’s the temp stability?
I use a lot of N570... great powder. Going to need a long drop tube or vibrating tooth brush w N570 large kernels to get a compressed load. I posted a pic of N570 in RCC 7 PRC brass next to my 7MAX w N570. See post #164

Guys that are reloading for the 7 prc have you had any clicker issues? Like the 6.5 or 300

What brass?
I’ve had a dozen 6.5 PRC’s using Hornady, ADG, Lapua, Bertram
Ten 300 PRC’s using Hornady, ADG, Lapua brass
I have over 250 rounds through my 7prc RCC brass and 20 rounds of factory rounds through the latest 7 PRC
All rifles built using SAAMI spec reamers and never had an issue.

Lol I asked both the gunsmiths I use and neither one has had any issues or complaints with PRC cartridges with all the rifles they’ve built, one of the gunsmiths had clickers in his own 300 WSM after 4 firings on the same brass, he said he corrected it with a body die !
