Anybody have this combo? How closely does the ejection port inlet in the stock match the action? I just received a McMillan stock after months of waiting only to find the ejection port inlet doesn't really match the action. At least not compared to the inlets I've had in the past on other actions with McMillan stocks. The length is correct, but the corners of the stock's inlet poke out into the ejection port area of the action.

I guess I could sand/mill those corners away and paint the exposed area black, but it's a bit of a let down...

BTW, they also got the colors wrong but I can live with that (mixed up the percentages for black and grey). I wanted a mostly black stock, but they sent me a mostly grey one.

A-5 stock?
Love the color combo!
What is the marbled color ratio?
Thanks

Thanks. Yeah, that's what I thought. Will reach out to McMillan.
Im sure they'll take care of you. I wonder if LP changed their inlet?

I had to take a dremel a d some black paint to a McMillan to widen an ejection port. It came out great. You can barely tell I did anything. I had it inlet for a BAT TR, but the version of the TR I got from SAC has a larger ejection port than the one McM had an inlet for. Easy fix.

If I ever get an action that's not a BAT, I'm getting a LP. Mike R has that in his short list of actions he recommends.

No LP didn't change anything. McMillan didn't inlet the stock properly. Look at the other photo above, very different inlets. Same action.

I'm sure I'll either have to send this stock back and they will just alter the inlet slightly. Or they will have to make a new stock and it will be another 6 months lol.

I hope they wouldn't treat you like that and make you wait again. At this point I'd be asking for a new stock since they messed up the colors and the inlet.

If the tell you to kick rocks and kill yourself, here's some novice work I did that turned out decent.

Fuckin Bob Beck...

I've ordered three stocks from McMillan since the acquisition and all have been perfect. They still churn out an awesome product. The notion that quality has fallen off is just plain untrue. It's all the same people working the production at McMillan. The OP's problem was a fluke that happens to every company (including Manners from personal experience), and I have no doubt that McMillan will make it right.

McMillan's response about the color: hand made means it is what it is. They have no control how the colors turn out.

McMillan's response to the ejection port inlet: they made a mistake. Production guy running inlet machine missed a step in the milling process and program didn't mill the port properly. Send back and they will mill out that area.

For reference, this is what I was going for:

This is how it turned out. I guess it's close enough.

Here's another one I have that came out great, though:

I picked a McMillan Game Warden Edge fill for a LP Fusion TI build out the store recently and inlet was spot on. Actually nicer than a few of my other 100% CF stocks.

Just looking at the pics (and taking a shot in the dark) but it doesn't look like the port is the only thing off.

As I see it it looks like they put the action down too deep into the stock... going by the 2 different pics.?

Can you share Mike R's short list of actions?? Looking to build a new hunting rifle.

Thanks!!

I think once bedded, it will raise the action up a bit? But yeah, I see what you're talking about. I already sent the stock back so I can't double check. Maybe the ejection port and bolt handle notch get milled out more in the step they skipped. I'll call on Monday and have a chat with them. But I do remember looking at the other side of the stock for bolt release clearance and it was fine. So I don't think the inlet is too deep overall. Maybe just the ejection port side.

I've only got a vague memory of the others he mentioned, so id rather not say in case im wrong.

He regarded the Lone Peak action highly, as well as the BAT actions. However the BAT actions have a screw that hangs down under the bolt release. Any stock that isn't specifically inlet for that action / screw will need to have material removed to clear it. It's not a huge deal. I've done it a couple times but it is annoying.

I believe the LP Razor and LP Fusion have different inlets?

I'm not sure. Probably. But what's that got to do with anything? You think they inletted for the Razor by mistake?

Anything is possible

Just got word that estimated turn-around time is 8 weeks. And it's already been 2. So 10 weeks total for warranty fix.
