Those were the days, ‘’The spirit of 76‘’ Honda XR 75’s were king in till the YZ’S came out. The RM 80’s came a few years after the YZ. The RM was a better looking bike in my opinion.
My first motorcycle. I got it for Christmas when I was in sixth grade.

This was actually my first bike a SL 70, the lights were stripped off and was a hand me down from the family, It was a great first bike, it just ran and ran and I had a lot of good times on. I should say this is a perfect specimen of a SL 70, mine was not even close to being this clean.

My first motorcycle was a ‘77 Honda XL100. Bought it out of a neighbor’s barn for $50 when I was probably 13 years old. My dad and I rebuilt the engine, replaced a few parts (I distinctly remember the muffler had a hole in it, and on further inspection we found a dead squirrel carcass in there), and I spent the next 3-4 years absolutely destroying that poor old bike until I got my license and moved onto four wheels. I had loads of fun for my ~$250 investment. Looked just like this.

My first “bike” was an old Arctic Cat mini bike.

We inherited it from the family when I was about ten.

This isn’t mine, but looked just like it.

Used the same clutch system as a snowmobile.

My first time on it I rode right through mom’s vegetable garden.

Little off topic but does anyone have a recommendation on a motorcycle lift?

Wife and I are going to put cams in her bike and need something to get it up off the floor. (Yes, my wife will be wrenching. She did put on her own exhaust and does her other accessories. And yes, she’s a bad ass.)

I’m not looking for a full table lift, just something that will stabilize the bike while we wrench.

What say the hide?

Laugh if you want, but I'm using a Harbor Freight motorcycle jack. So far, it's let me do the cam chain tensioners and clutch on my old Springer, front/back tires on the Road King, and every other reason I've had to lift the bikes.

It sucks for 3 hole services (crossbars are in the way and you can't get to the plugs or get a catch pan underneath) but its been worth every penny to me.

I’ve been looking at those and also something like what’s pictured below.

I just need to have the bike level when I’m doing the work.

A table lift would be sick but then I have to store it and the garage is full enough the way it is.

I would like to have a table lift too, but just like you, garage space is limited. I have the yellow craftsman version of floor jack motorcycle lift. It works well doing all three holes on my 2018 Street Glide, and worked fine with my 2010 Dyna too.

I've got the aluminum harbor freight one. Mostly just use it for trying to take up a little less space when I put my bike up for winter. I can push it over and make more room for the snowblower in the garage. Think I only paid $175ish for mine but I don't remember.

My first bike was a '78 Yamaha 175 Enduro, bought it on the Res for $20....didn't run at the time ('86 maybe). Tore the cylinder off, used an emory cloth to smooth out all of the scoring from them not filling the oil injection reservoir. Put in a new spark plug, a triangle file to the ring seats, emory cloth on the rings, put it back together and it ran like a raped ape for almost 4 years until I ran it "a little" above redline, and put a hole in the piston my thumb would fit though. No helmet, no eye pro.

The best/worst part of that 175 when I got it running, after dad told me I wasted $20 on it, and was so pissed off that I got "ripped off"... was when he got home from guiding a fishing trip out above Pierre, SD (90 mile north west of the farm). I was so proud of getting it running, and he jumped on it and hauled ass down the 1/4 mile long gravel driveway...it was a T intersection at the road (also gravel, there wasn't a paved road for 3 miles), with a 6 barb fence on the other side of the ditch...bike didn't have brakes worth a fuck. He got slowed down "enough", disappeared over the road and into the ditch, and laid it down before going through the fence. He was a "little shaken up" pulling back into the yard, cussed me a bit, and told me I wasn't allowed to ride it again until I got some brakes working. Good times. :ROFLMAO:

About 3 weeks after I got my Honda running, I let a buddy ride it. He did promptly drove straight into the broad side of the barn and bent the forks.
To this day he refuses to ride anything with less than 4 wheels.

Who remember's the Honda Big Red 3 wheeler if you didn't die on that Machine your a Bad Ass..
Like Me 😂😂

Added

My grandma had a Honda 110. When we were about 7 or 8 we were allowed to ride it. But only if we could start it.

We would pull on that god damn thing for half an hour some days.

And it was worth every second.

When I was in high school I had a Honda 185. Those balloon tires were unstoppable!

But you had to make sure you had even air pressure in the rear tires. If you didn’t, your wheelies were never in a straight line

I never really cared for the OEM ghey ass color scheme and graphics on my 2019 KTM 300 XC, so I ordered up a set of 2021 graphics from DeCal Works. A couple of patient OCD hours to install and the bike is transformed to more traditional KTM colors. I don’t know what KTM was thinking when they went with a white rear fender and white lower fork guards for 2019. Its definitely getting time to hit the woods trails after a few years away from it.

I heard they’re good ones to learn on! I don’t need fast I need steady lol

It is a smart choice, so many think anything under 600 is "not enough".

In my experience one of two things will happen, the hook will be set and set hard, opening the door to another wallet draining fun activity......or you may hate everything about it put it up after one ride and sell it 12 months later. Seen both happen.

If you have an electric bicycle and like that I think you will like the bike.

Me personally I am waiting for weather, yesterday it was 70, today it is 23. It is enough to make you crazy.....mother nature just pick one will ya.

I actually bought this because of a bad trail experience on an ebike. I didn’t have enough power or ground clearance (peddles hitting rocks and roots in trail). I also didn’t like the peddle assist of the ebike, it had a delay so I would peddle in a moment I needed it and a se one or two later the peddle assist would kick in and launch me forward, sometimes when I didn’t want it too.

I feel like having good throttle control and the power when I need it along with the suspension and ground clearance will make that trail way more enjoyable

Not enough. I’ve got an FC450 that’ll tear your balls off if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Luckily, mine reside in my wife’s purse so there’s nothing to worry about 😂

The 300 is a great starter bike. It’s not a turd, but grabbing a fist full of throttle during an oh shit moment isn’t going to kill you.

I see where you are coming from, mine I "changed" a bit so it will run on battery only, no need for my feet if I don't want to.

With this reply I am feeling you are headed down a long road on two wheels.

A while ago had to move the entire family out of the shop, thought it was a cool "butt" pic. The little red honda is a CRF 80 with a baja designs kit on it, the little thing looks so darn cute. And a "butt" pic of two other two wheel murder machines, as well as my fattie. I really like the Africa Twin, it is so nice, but damn it is a pig. I think it will likely be my last new motorcycle. That said if Honda does a Trans Alp, and has it in the sub 650 area, is a twin, a bit lighter and not taller I would need to rethink that. I really thought about don't an old Trans Alp but buying a bike for daily use that came out when Regan was in office just seemed like it would want more then turn the key and go. Sure do like the old TA's as well as the old AT's

Not like I need another project, but I want to get an older Honda CB to "fix up". I will start to look after I finish my VW.

Everything has stopped progress as I build my loft.

The Africa Twins are cool but they’re absolute tanks!

I can’t imagine ripping that for Drakkar

The DaKar bikes are 450-500 singles..
I rode with a guy at Rampart Range once who rode and was training for Dakar. He had a CRF450F with some minor mods. Mostly a fairing unit w/ some electronics. Dakar is more about stamina than anything else. At least where bikes are considered.

Without a doubt the biggest bike I have ever owned. I would love a twin 650 ADV bike, but it does not exist. I will look if the stories of a Trans Alp are true, but this is likely my last bike.
