NIOA Acquires Barrett Firearms Announcement

My post was directed at all the people saying they wont buy a Barrett rifle now that ownership is foreign. The new owner is well off, a boycott wont hurt him. It will hurt the workers that get laid off as a result of a boycott. I'm not sure how caring about American workers is socialist....
My apologies. I misinterpreted you comment to mean that the Barrets were wrong to sell their company.

As someone who is in this boat (different industry), you are 100% correct. The only alternatives are to run it until you die at your desk or to go public.
There's also the multi-generational family company, but that's very hard to pull off.

I know fours guys that work for Barrett. They are ramping up production and nothing is changing. All this hand wringing is for naught. NIOA wants to make money and they have met with the employees in TN. More investment and production on the way.
This makes me feel a bit better in my investment to the mrad. Still just bothers the shit out of me for some reason.

Hello. Australian here. I know a bit about this deal, but some I can not (legally) disclose.

What I CAN say is that NIOA are currently AU's largest MIL/LE supplier. They sell to civilians, but majority of their industry is MIL.
As for short term, NOTHING will change. It's business as usual, same products, same management, same employees (with some shuffling).

Some production will relocate to AU (bolt rifles, nothing MIL used).

If you look up how the Aussie supply contracts work for govt->MIL, it makes sense. American made, can supply US entities, Aussie owned, can supply AU entities.

Think CZ-USA, or Beretta, etc... It's a "partnership". Countries usually require their gear to be made IN COUNTRY.. nightforce is a wholy owned Aussie company. NOT USA owned.. it's just a manuf plant.

Sorry to change the subject but have a question. Finally got my first caliber change kit and went to install it and am having issues. View attachment 8050643View attachment 8050644
The retaining pin only goes up so far and the bolt on the right (new 308 kit) doesn’t have the pocket machined like the bolt on the left the 300 prc that came in my rifle. Therefore it won’t insert in to the carrier. I assume that a step was forgotten with my bolt or am I doing something wrong? This is my first attempt at changing calibers so not ruling out that I’m the cause.

I wonder if you have one of the early large breech models. If so you need a breech conversion kit.

So the one without the shelf is an older style that doesnt use the retained cross pin. Call barrett customer service, ask for Franz and tell him you need a bolt and cross pin for the older style.

Man we still got SERBU! Why are you guys sweating this shit??!!

All BS aside, I have an M99 and I just hope to see the factory that employs Americans never shut down, or they get layed off and replaced. On another note, it would be no different than ordering parts for anything else from overseas companies.
Whats 1 more overseas company right?

So did all of the military snipers get the new MARD systems or was only part of the order shipped? WOW all of the snipers were getting the same rifle so I guess the new company isn’t going to support them. That just put our snipers back a few years.
There's some seriously stupid comments on this thread but yours is king.

Here is the problem,at least for me. Just like Miroku building Winchesters. I refuse to provide monetary support for a company based in a country that has OBSCENELY strict firearm ownership laws. Barrett can do whatever they want with their business just as I can refuse to spend any further income on said business' products. It is another F!@$ America sale
But you shit on libtards for virtue signaling?

For the few of you here wringing their hands about military technology transfers......

LOL

We're selling Australia between 3 and 5 Virginia class nuclear submarines plus all the knowledge that goes into running them, maintaining them, and eventually making them or a domestic designed nuke boat.

Calm down.

I get what you’re saying but it’s a bit of a different animal, one was founded by an Australian and one is being bought by an Australian company who’s political pressures/ties/motivations may be unknown. NF was a startup company (originally Lightforce) by an Australian dentist and to my knowledge hasn’t been bought out by an international entity. (May be wrong but thought Ray still owned it). Either way would love to see more companies owned and operated from the USA. This day and age the exchange and acquisition of firearms industry companies is very interesting that’s for sure.
Do you think the political pressures on Australian companies are any worse than those on American ones?

You should be more worried about American politicians and companies getting into bed with the wrong crowd, if the past 3 years have taught us anything.

It's kind of funny seeing ignorant idiots mouthing off about NIOA stopping domestic sales of large cal rifles in the US when they were literally importing 416 and 50 cal chambered rifles for civilian sales in Australia before the purchase.

I’m reading this post thread and can’t help but see a coincidence between this acquisition and the ban on them by the Western Australian state government

In fact all calibre above.30 that they manufacture and not limited to Barrett

Dont read into it. Its a complete "wish list" of what police want (NOT politicians).

VIC is also being retarded, and SA is gonna try to win the dunce crown in due time.

This is NOTHING to do with crime, NOTHING to do with public safety, and has EVERYTHING to do with fearmongering, and lots to do with ... other factors at play.

Police are trying to divide everyone. This is a power play, pure and simple.

Im in NZ, whilst I'm not quite in ACAB camp I have grown to have a healthy contempt for the Police as a organisation.

Thankfully our new Government has said they will remove the administraion of firearms away from the Police, who have shown themselves to be both inept in the administration but also completely ideologically opposed to firearm owners and willing to throw as many hurdles in their way as possible.

We will see how it pans out but hopefully it looks less like a trajectory towards what you poor bastards have in Aus, and something more like what we used to have which was actually a pretty good compromise.

Also not buying Barrett firearms is ridiculous. It is still made in America by American craftsman. Who cares if the owner who is 1 guy is Australian. The majority of their workforce is American taxpayers. In fact the new ownership give a fresh influx of money and technology into the business. Also Ronnie and his son are still executive consultants for the company.
