Looking for input on what some realistic groups are at 200 yards. So far the best i have gotten are maybe just under 2 inch. but that is not consistant. that is shooting a 40x conversation with ah shilen barrel. thaks

All 10 shot groups. All of my Eley match groups, the corners shot at 2.5-3" and the center-x had two low shots that made it like 4"

Very unrealistic, but possible, 2 different types of ammo, from a tripod. I will take any bet that says this will be wr happen again. But it did once. The rest of the splashes are a different gun and different ammo

This is about average for me. Sometimes worse, sometimes very slightly better.

Average? 2.5“-3” range with good ammo, rifle, and shooter, but for the “all day long” / every round you fire if you can hold 2 MOA your doing pretty good.
This response along with Buckhead‘s are spot on. Good consistent ammo is key, and even then there will be flyers… For further discussion I’m sure JAIA will check in soon…

In very good weather condition, I have shot many 1" to 1.5" 5 shot groups. But that not the norm. MOA ( 2" ) are good groups.
There are so many factors that effect the groups at 200yds, wind, gun heating, gun handling, shooter. That is why I shoot 5 shot groups over more shots. I shoot many 5 shot to get the results.

I 'm not big, on group shooting, when I see the ammo/ gun combo shoots, I go to steel knockdown's out to 400yds. one shot for one steel. I have recently gone to EC V2 tuners on my 2 Bergara B14R. The tuner tighten up my groups and has taken a some of the vertical out of my long range groups, and steel hit % is better.

Mark and Sam After Work has a video where he compares 2 separate cheap subsonic and 2 separate cheap supersonic ammos. He shot 2" groups at 300 yards with one of the supersonic, Velocitor I think, while both subsonic selections were horrible groups...no tuner either!

I agree with jbell. From his 2022 data on the 6x5 Forum, here is the top shooter group sizes at 200 yards:

200 Yard Average:
1: 2.035” / 0.972 MOA (BillOH- Vudoo V-22 7/14/22)

200 Yard Best Group:
1: 1.179” / 0.563 MOA (BillOH- Vudoo V-22 7/14/22)

Not a rimfire, and for information's sake, but here are some of my better 200Y groups with pcp air rifles using lead slugs/bullets. 22 cal 42gr and only going 840 fps.

After spotting for all the competitors at my longrange matches and shooting the same if you can consistently on demand keep all your shots (except for the occasional wild round) on a 3 inch target you have a really great shooting rig. Sometimes they may be a tad better and other days a tad worse. If my combination will do that I don't waste time chasing better because that degree of accuracy and keeping it consistent battling Mother Nature day to day is good.

That was a very good day. ;) My groups often aren't that good.

Realistic groups?

Can be 1/4 moa to 10 plus moa (1/2 inch to 20 plus inches at 200 yards)

That is to be expected for 5 shot groups where all y'er doing is holding point of aim.

Shooting for score, where ya'actually attempt to hit what you aim at,
expect 3 to 4 inches of spread for 10 shots, with the best cartridges you can get y'er hands on.

Wind can be waited out, but bullet velocity differences will cause vertical spread.
Cartridge defects from the factory caused by rough handling and poor assembly
will be responsible for the majority of random dispersion.
The transition from super to sub-sonic will have insignificant effect on results.

I was waiting for Justin’s reply. What he says mostly agrees with my results.

I think his 3-4” statement is actually a bit optimistic. (Odd for him😁) The 20 “ statement I have never approached, thankfully.

The accuracy potential can actually be calculated by a Chronograph. A 1 FPS variation in velocity will result in one tenth of an inch vertical dispersion at 200 yards. If you shoot a box over the chrono and get 45 fps variation, your accuracy potential is 4.5” at 200 yards. Anything better is “a random act of accuracy” This is disregarding all the other potential problems he mentions which tend to compound and increase group size.
(I stole most of this from Justin.)

Took me a good bit of effort to get under MOA at 200yds. SK Long Range Match out of CZ 457 20” MTR barrel, 10 shots.
Realistic from my experience is anything under MOA at 200 yds is doing well

250yds 20 shots 16 impacts. Wind was right to left all misses were off the left side.
Wind was 5-7mph from 2ish
Temp was 46
I’ll take this every day at this distance , especially in matches.

You're. basically asking a question that has not been answered yet." Define long range 22lr accuracy." In 50 yd benchrest accuracy is well defined. A gun capable of shooting 25 shots to the same point of aim at 50yds/meters with consistency. It is possible to but together a gun, scope rest setup that is capable of shooting moa or less groups a 200yds but consistency depends on 4 things First the gun scope and rest. Second the shooter. Third the ammo. And fourth the conditions. You have control over the first 2 but very little if any over the second 2. A 40X with a tuned barrel is more than capable of shooting 200yd moa groups with the right ammo and under the right conditions.
