As of late, I have increasingly become interested in researching information about this rifle. For some reasons, it seems like it's one of those rifles that never gets talked about. Not only that: the amount of information on the web is very limited and - in some cases - conflicting....

Basically, it was designed as a military / LE (probably more of the latter) sniper rifle starting from the Sauer 80/90 target rifle. Some sources indicate that production started in 1989, while others say 1983. Personally I tend to be inclined towards the former, as the SSG 3000 would be introduced at IWA 1992 and the SSG2000 was actually part of the mid 80s trial for UK's new sniper platform.
It was available in a multitude of calibers, ranging from .223 Rem to 300 Weatherby Mag (saw one for sale in Switzerland), with 308 Win probably being the most "popular" choice.
Probably because of the fact that it was already a bit outdated when it first came out, the SSG 2000 was adopted by very few agencies around the wrold and was not a successfully commercial gun (a bit like its successor).

This is a very good picture of an example in mint conditions, which went for sale on a famous auctions site.

Needless to say that it's very difficult to see one pop up for sale, even in Europe (where I'm located). Would really fancy one, especially in 7.5x55!

What are your thoughts? Any information that you can share? Maybe someone has one of these babies and surprises us with some pictures/commentary.

Cheers,
Davide

Finally a place where i can show off my rifle :).
Sadly i can’t tell too much about it, besides that i is a beautiful and smooth rifle.
I bought it a couple of years ago from a friend and actually never shot it.
Since it is in near mint condition it would just be to painful.
It‘s a SSG 2000 in 7.5x55.

Wow! Man that's a rare piece right there! I have a feeling that Switzerland is the only place where some of these show up from time to time!

If you ever want to sell it, give me a shout :)
