Hi all,

I'm new on this forum, please, which is the best carbine base to recreate an M40A1 sniper rifle from Vietnam war?

Thank you in advance.
Best wishes,

Yep, I saw redfiels and hi-lux scope, but about carbine so many people told me about cz455 and cz457, but, which version?

Neither cz is correct because the rifle is based on the Remington 700 or 40x

You want the Rem 40x for that. It’s how the M40 got its name. The original M40’s were R40x’s but marked R700.

Another fast way into an Nam ere M40 build is to find a Remington 700 Varmint Special with a 24” barrel and use the BA. The USMC spec’d out the M40 and Remington built it. Then Remington modeled the R700 VS after the m40. Only real difference is the stock, finish and caliber. Rem came out with the R700 VS in 67’ but didnt offer 308 as a caliber until 79’.

Having an M40 in a 22-250, or a 243 would be cool.

If you’re dead set on a 22LR, then run with that 40x

The CMP sold thousands of US Property marked 40X & 40XB 22RF rifles to members of CMP-affiliated clubs at bargain prices - the certificates of authenticity for the three that I bought were from 2004-2007. I had one 40X and one 40XB converted into repeaters to use the AICS-size 10rd V-22 magazines by Jonathan Elrod at Modocam Rifles (jelrod is his handle here), then barreled them with Benchmark & Lilja blanks, set them up with Jewell triggers, EGW 20 MOA sloped scope rails, and put them into Manners T4A & B&C #2095 stocks.

I highly recommend Jonathan Elrod, he performed a repeater conversion for me a few years ago. My boy shooting clay pigeons at 100 yards with a m40a5 22lr.

I also have a m40a1 single shot 22lr that was built by another smith. 3 shot group years ago at 100 yards on a calm day.

All I need now is a a6 22lr…lol

I hate you....

😆

I think at one point I had 2 HB models and 4 Standard models. Records show I paid $425 for the HB and $350 for the Standard barrels. Those were the days.

nice rifles, your knowledge of them is as impressive as your past and present collection. for the most part I don;t get rid of anything anymore and the quality goes up with birthdays it seems.
