Defiance bought out

Good for Proof to profit on such a good business, not good for us.

On a long enough timeline, the demand signals of use and what the market demands make cookie cutters of many things. AR companies and Glock imitators abound.

and there comes a point that form factor, price and integration push it all in the same direction weather they want to go there or not

if your action isnt a 700 drop in you purposely leaving money on the table...so every one uses a 700 form factor

is it the best nope, does it work, yup... lets make 700 drop ins

Per Proof:

“With 100% truth and honesty, Proof is not for sale. We have been hearing the rumor as well. Our majority owner and board has had offers from big companies in the defense space over the past few years and we have always turned them down. We have made it clear, this isn’t for sale. Our CEO and I even addressed it directly with Bob Beck at SHOT show.”

Damn it! Was really hoping for another shit storm then cry when I can’t buy proof prefits for a good price.

Stock, check… action, check… barrel? Possibly Check

Stand by for over priced cookie cutter bullshit rifles that are “1,831.43 yds out of the box” riddled with QC issues and customer service that acts like you’re a burden when you inevitably need to call.

Hey, it’s me, late to the party and derailing a thread as usual (lots of major life changes in the past year so I’ve been a bit distracted w/ those). A ton of comments here about McMillan tanking after a buy out (I assume after Kelly’s passing), what’d I miss there? A TLDR is fine, or even a PM, just curious is all. :)

Maybe their backlog has loosened up after all of this. My brother had a Tenacity on order that they had told him about a month ago would be finished this summer. It arrived at his dealer today.

They went from a 14 month backlog to opening retail orders within the last month.

It would seem to me then that a big chunk of that 14 month backlog was not secured by deposits and when the price increase hit those orders were cancelled. Does that sound right?

I'm wondering if companies that use Defiance as OEM to their action have any choice in the matter. It's not like they can just buy a different action the way marking variances work. And to set up a new variance could take quite a while. So now these companies have to eat the cost or pass cost on to their customers. Otherwise not sell their own branded actions anymore.

Probably quite a few companies in this situation as Defiance seems to be the most popular OEM for branded actions.

I’ve heard a lot about how mcmillan would tank… but not so much about it actually doing it.

Several guys have inventory for a few months

Those same guys are on the phone with defiance figuring out what the plan is as well as looking for alternative actions as of last week.

GAP switched to Impact Precision NBK in some of their hunting models just this month.

I was told 5 month backlog when I put down a deposit with Defiance over 8 months ago. Still waiting.

Like when Ole and Sven were selling hay for $10 a bale less than they paid for them. Ole said “Sven, I figured out our problem! We need a bigger truck!”
Lose a little on every transaction, but make up,for it in volume!

Of course it did work for Amazon….

Curious if the debt servicing to acquire all those new machines will yield the scale to have them in a place where in the long run, they just dominate the market due to volume.

Regardless, I hedged my bets and went ahead and ordered another bolt with a different face for my Anti action; I want options down the road.

Waited almost a year for my Anti…did want a custom serial number, and some other add-ons though, so knew it’d be a long wait.

I ordered an action in April 2022 and was given a December 2022 delivery date. They have since changed the delivery date to March. If there had not been an ownership change, you may have lost your deposit and not have ever got an action. The new owner is going to fulfill your order. I wonder if he saw any of your deposit.

might have missed it in previous pages, but does anyone know how many actions defiance produced for their product lines and all the OEM guys added together per year?

As much as we don’t believe it it could have happened.

I still have my JAE bankruptcy letter telling me to get fucked

no honor from MDT?

i wonder if MDT accepts JAE certs we have from right before they closed shop
na I don’t think they should saddle themselves with those problems. Life’s not fair then you die, I have a tcs on order anyway. It should come by 25’ or so

i'd have thought them acquiring MDT would have included sales to date

I can’t imagine they were losing money making the Tenacity if Aero Precision Solus action is at $899 with it being nitrided, 60 degree throw and integral pic rail. Time will tell, but if they were losing money on their basic action I guess who ever was doing finances wasn’t doing the best of job.

Well… they did fire the finance department….

I’m hoping we see dealers under msrp as soon as supply catches up
