With that load out, they aren’t playing around, tanks and everything

To bad we didn’t use them against the ballon before it got in US air space

Seriously over loaded. When they used to fly them loaded like that out of Spangdahlem they couldn’t even keep up with our F4s. They’re to task saturated to fly 100’ and below, not a good idea for a WW. Plus their RAW receiver sucks and they had piss poor software for employing the HARM. Proof you can’t make a day VFR fighter do every mission

Friends dad flew navy F-4’s in Vietnam.

When got out he flew for Pan-Am

Apparently pam am was the place you went if you flew navy.

He loved that jet more than life itself. His wife used to joke that she was worried that he was going to name their son/my friend phantom while she was in recovery lol.

You think this is more of a photo shoot pic?

Thanks

That’s a professional photo for sure. They do photo shoots quite often, I’ve been in quite a few. I’m sure all the services do them.

They started using the F16 in the Weasel role as they started running out of F4Gs. It’s not a bad plane, it’s just when you massively overload (think an extreme amount of drag really) a single engine single crew airplane you take away all its advantages.

The last F-4 Weasel conference I went to at Hill had a couple 16 drivers there.
Basically, it was a "sucks to be you" conversation between them and the engineers.
If I remember correctly, it was going to take 2, 16 Weasels and an AWACS to do the job of one F-4.
I actually felt bad for the 16 guys when the realization hit them.
The sensors on the F-4 WW were an engineering marvel, even at today's standards.

Yeah, probably the best RAW system ever put into any fighter (don’t really know about the F22 and F35). The targeting ability was absolutely amazing. When I got into it the computers ran on 64K memory and we were thrilled when they upgraded them to 128K. It’s amazing what the old school tech could do.
