Looking to get into gas gun competitions and thinking about a 6 ARC. Looking for something with a little more reach than a 223 and less recoil and more accurate probably than my 308 gasser. Is 6 ARC the answer to the longer range (1200yds) gas series?tia

Yeah it totally is, from my personal experience. It's pretty versatile, low recoil, runs in an AR-15 frame, and gets you in that zone beyond 700 yards where 5.56mm hits limits, out to about 1400 yards, where even 6mm Creed starts to hit limits. I have a 26" barrel which I think is basically overkill and would go with a 18-20" next time.

Do you have a budget in mind?

If you've got the cash I go CLE 22" Bartlein/ 1-7.25 or 1-7.5 Twist/ Heavy Contour / .875 gas block +2

I went with Craddock, but like mentioned CLE is also quality (they do Krieger, Critereon and Bartlein as well). The tricky thing with 6ARC right now is ammo. If you reload, there's a dearth of brass available. I was using Lapua 6.5 Grendel to form 6ARC, but that's now dried up due to Lapua temporarily halting that line.

I run a 18” proof. I put a few down it. That’s how my stainless proof 6 arc shoots rounds 21-25. I am moving that to my DMR roll and getting a 22” bartlien to be my fun long range gun. I love this round. I got 1k 6.5 grendel starline brass to convert.

I shoot Gas Gun a lot in PRS. I built a 6 Arc last year for it, and it just doesnt have the horsepower to score consistently passed 800 or so. I found myself really pushing the brass trying to get more speed, but in the end wasnt worth it for me. I ended up switching to a large frame gun in 22cm, but any of the 6mm or a 6.5 cm would do good as well.

If i had to do a small frame gun again, Id build a 22 grendel and shoot 75 elds or maybe 80elds

I've been seeing more and more threads about gas guns and PRS...maybe a trend? Hmm

I’ve both a gas and bolt 6 ARC. Really like the performance of each. Just spent more time this afternoon with the gas gun. Really likes Berger 90 Gr. BTHP and a 2520. Ballistic-X-Export-2023-04-23 20:56:59.440952.jpg

Haven’t done much research on 2520. I’ll have to look into it. What velocity does that combo give you?

The 6ARC is just a SAAMI standardized version of a few wildcats that have been around for awhile. The one I built several years back is the 6 Fat Rat. I have done a fair bit of long range with that gun, it will get it done for you. If the matches you shoot have most of the points within 900 yards, you will have a good time. 6ARC will perform past 900, but some of the advantages start to equalize from my perspective.
