Magnum cartridge? Carbon barrel? Lightweight rifle? YOU ARE DOOMED

This is my hunting rifle for my 2023 hunting season, I've made a few updates on the rifle from learnings from last hunting season. Biggest change is a proof barrel as I plan to run a suppressor this year, as my tinnitus isn't getting better. I also switched out my traditional m5 bottom metal to "hunter" bottom metal with an internal mag release. The way I carry my rifle, I probably ejected my magazine 10+ times hiking last year. No more butterfly ears for a mag release for a backpack gun. I shaved over 8oz off the rifle with these changes too.

I feared I ruined the barrel during install, but I shot a 5x5 in 30 minutes last night(that's fast for a hunting rifle), and averaged 0.78 MOA shooting hastily and with not great ammo. Best group was 0.44" worst was 1.26" with a certain flier, most were .75". Can't wait to run it with a can so it's a bit less punchy as I'm recoil and sound sensitive. I said it.

Suppressor will be a kgm r30 if it clears jail, and if not a sdn-6 upgraded to ranger 7. Heavier by a few oz, but tinnitus. I'll be getting a shorty k suppressor for hunting specifically soon, but I need to cool it on suppressor purchases right now.

As shown without magazine it is 10lbs 6oz. Loaded it will be right at 10lbs 9oz. Without bipod, we're at 9lb 11oz. Both shots last year were from a tripod so bipod is looking sus.

- Bighorn Origin Long Action
- Proof 24" 6.5 PRC Carbon Sendero

There's a few minor upgrades to accessories coming, but now all I need to do is hit the range!

New toy, with temporary optic setup (waiting on my new scope to arrive)… Christensen Arms MPR 16" .308 Win. But honestly, with the 1-10x28 LPVO it’s kind of a cool little rig. Lightweight, compact, handy… Shoots good, too. 😏

I’ll post more pics and groups when the new Kahles K624i shows up for it. 😉

What tripod setup is that? Been looking into one like that for coyote hunting.
It’s the RRS TFCT 34L/Anvil 30 setup. Very solid.

I also had to purchase 3 of their SOAR rails with hardware and two of their SC-ARC bipod clamps to make the full conversion for my modern rifles. It was a hit to the budget for sure, but worth it.

Fence photos of my match rifle!

I just received my SDN6 back from AAC as it was converted to a Ranger 7, which means my match rifle is ready to go for the first half of the year. The ranger 7 will sit on this rifle until my kgm r30 gets out of jail.

As is, the rifle sits at 17.5 lbs which is on the lighter end for a match gun. This is partly due to the savage style shank being smaller diameter at the thickest part of the barrel, losing about 1 lb from a regular mtu contour. Awesome for most rifles, but I want that weight in the center. I will be swapping to a proof comp contour barrel in June after my ELR match(already have data for this barrel) for some extra weight, as I've committed to building purpose built rifles. It'll be right at 20 lbs at that point, with similar balance, about 2" in front of the magwell.

Build list
- Zermatt origin short.
- 26" Criterion MTU savage nut, 6.5 creedmoor. Swapping to Proof 26" Comp Contour 6.5 Creedmoor in June
- Krg Bravo, enclosed foreend. Butt and spacer weights(36oz total in rear)
- Leupold mk5 5-25 pr2 mil
- Seekins low rings
- Flatline ops halo
- Trigger tech primary flat
- Q cherry bomb
- Aac ranger 7 w/ Rearden atlas
- Longtucky Supply Sling

Meet the twins… 😈

16” 6mm ARC (top) / 16” .308 Win (bottom)

With matching new Kahles K624i CCW RSW SKMR4 scopes in Seekins Precision 1.00” high rings. They just barely clear the handguard, but 1.00” rings are G-2-G on the MPR with a factory 20MOA rail, and 56mm objective.

If anyone is wondering, that is my Otter Creek Labs Hydrogen-S 7.62 on the 6mm ARC, and my Dead Air Nomad-LT on the .308 Win. Both cans are running an Otter Creek Labs ZR0-DTA direct-thread mount. The fit is superb. 👌🏼 And they sound just as quiet as they look. 🤫

I really appreciate you sharing, which model did you go with that fits on your MK5?
Standard non rotating for basically anything except the NF Atacr.

I just received the 90 degree mount today. And it’s really nice. Makes things more streamline.
