Looking at the newer production and current website that says the ADL Varmint is offered with an 8 twist barrel? I'm getting conflicting info online so I wanted to be sure what's on Remington's website is correct.

For those curious; if it has an R prefix like on the current site: R85417 then it is current production with the faster 8 twist. Older new stock without the R prefix has the slower 12 twist.

This has been the conflicting info, with sites listing different twist rates, so fear not, I have solved the case! (Even if no one cares)

I bought it from my FFL dealer, who ordered it online. We went back and forth on seeing that there were mixed twist rates. Just make sure you get the ADL or SPS with the new "RA" prefix with the 8 twist.

So took it out this afternoon and did some load testing:
75 ELD
2.50 COAL (1.960 ogive) which is .20 off lands
Varget
CCI 450
Lapua brass

I was getting some flyers but the last group at 25.2 grains was fine, and at 2941 fps.

Nice find, I see they are even in stock a few places. The Remington website shows the 243 rifles with a 1:8 too. Bout time.

I actually went up to 25.5 just to see and it is a hammer. So glad the updated this twist rate, makes for a cheap 700 trainer.
I had the ADL with 24" barrel on order. But had to cancel since the Jeep needs new 33's :( I agree it's a cheap trainer with 75 ELDM's. I wanted the sporter for a decent walking stick hunter.

I'm seriously considering purchasing one, do you know how your dealer made sure you ended up with a 1:8 barrel? Phrased differently, if I have my dealer order an R85417 is it guaranteed to be 1:8? I've checked that part number on a bunch of different sites and have seen 1:8, 1:10 and 1:12 all associated with R85417 so I'm hesitant to blindly order one.

That "should" work. UPC: 810070680404. But I'd call the supplier and make sure it's new production 1-8" twist. Or confirm via email so you have a paper trail.

Looks like they updated pretty much all twist rates other than 22-250. For some stupid reason it's still 1-14. Also appears they ditched the lefty actions. Anyone know for sure on the leftys?

Ordered an R85417 (UPC 810070680404) from Dahlonega Armory and picked it up the other day, happy to report it's got the barrel I was after. Pleasantly surprised it has the new Timney trigger too.

Envy is an ugly thing ;) Let us know how it shoots!

I bought the Remarms 700 ADL 7mm RM 1-8" 26" barrel. Stuffed it in a KRG Bravo and have only 30 rounds of load development done. I've been doing 3 round groups to save on components. I've tested this load out to 800 yards so far. Rings steel pretty hard.

That was my experience. These new Remingtons hammer.
Yup I agree. I even had the poorly made bankruptcy Remington shoot well. My buddy's Remington 300 WM Long Range bankruptcy era. It had a gnarly burr on the bolt rails that had to be filed down and smoothed out. I want to say this load was with the 208 ELDM's.
