OWNERS- Educate me on Trigger Cams:

I'm thinking it might be a learning tool for a newb to long range like me- to show my mistakes and general mediocrity.

How many manufacturers are there?

If more than one maker, which are preferred?

I've also been looking into them for additional training purposes. Mainly to catch how I am/am not lined up properly behind the gun during and after recoil. Triggercam always seems to find its way to the top of the list for that.

Very interested in seeing what experienced users will have to say.

I have the triggercam. That’s the one I’d go with. Some of the cheaper ones for phones or GoPro are fine I’m sure. Lots of guys use those for airguns and .22.

The triggercam is simple on/off mount with Allen wrench and has a great picture when focused properly.

Some benefits and reasons I chose mine were being able to have my phone free to use ballistic app and the fact nothing sticks out from the ocular. The camera itself adds maybe an inch to the rear of the scope. But looking through it (unless it’s low light) you won’t even know it’s there.

It’s also semi compact so nothing hangs off the side to hook on clothing or barricades

Mine is paired with the app on my phone. I can see real time from anywhere it bluetooth connects. Which allows anyone else to see the shooters view through the optic while they shoot

You can use your phone to start and stop recording. As well as delete files or transfer them directly to your phone. Which allows you to text or email them if you want

Only downside I’ve found so far is I run NF ATACR primarily. The ocular rotates with the magnification. So does the cam. So you’re using it on one magnification for a scope like that

Been happy so far with mine. Picked up from the px here. Seem to pop up regularly

@hafejd30 You mentioned using it to free up the phone for a ballistic calculator and then mention you can bluetooth the triggercam and control it that way. Can you float between both apps while the unit is turned on? Or does it shutoff as soon as you close app to jump to a different app?

I’m not sure with going between apps what it does. Using the phone is just an option. Normally I just record with the device only.

You can turn on and off and take video or recordings with just the triggercam. The phone stuff is an added bonus if you choose to use it

Doesn’t need the app or phone to work. Stores on a sd card in the unit itself.

I always use my app. But I’m sure you can pop the card and use a computer to access the videos as well

If you had the app up, hit record in your phone, then closed the app on your phone I’m not sure what it would do. Assume keep recording but just a guess

It’s a lot less hassle to just hit record on the triggercam itself. Then look at video later. If your watching for someone else you would just hit record as they were ready to shoot on the phone. Only time I usually view through my phone is when testing the focus.

I agree the app features are super convenient. I was just curious on how they can be utilized. It definitely wouldn't be a deal breaker if I'm not able to open app, start recording, close app to open another app

Has there been any sort of hot fix for triggercam to interface with ZCO’s better? It’s one of the only reasons I haven’t bought one.

Don’t need a fix. It works. I use mine all the time, videos are up on my IG and YouTube using it. No shims. It’ll scratch the ocular a little but whatever not a big deal. Most of it wipes off.

If I had one, that is how I would do it. Record on the device and leave my phone on the ballistics app. I would be too busy looking through the scope. But I like the intent. Maybe you could detect a slight pull to left or right which highlights what you need to work on for hand position and trigger squeeze. That is why I like a chassis, even for my hunting rifles. I place my thumb on the rest, which isolates the movement of my index finger. I am not the best shot but I learn little things a long the way. Plus, I like the videos where you see what the shooter is seeing.

That is as close as you get to being there.

I bought mine for training purpose as well. For myself and other mainly. I also do a lot of long range hunting which it will work well for. You can slow the shot down and find exact hit placement on an animal before attempting to track. Also let’s you know if it’s a clear miss and how you can improve in those shots.
