Vortex Razor Gen 3 (6-36x56) vs. Zeiss LRP S3 (6-36x56) opinions??

Get on expertvoice asap! I just got the G3 for 1999.99. Zeiss is there too but not as low. You have until 5/31!
What's the first rule of Fight Club?

We don't name prices here, other than MSRP. Just good practice overall for any forum or website, especially for something like EV that is not open to the public, unless you have credentials. The only time we talk about prices is if something is used, or something is on sale for public pricing on a public website. If you want to discuss prices for specialized websites (like EV), it's best to send the person a DM and talk about it. 👍🏼

Aite lads.

Got my S3 in today and did a back to back comparison with the G3 Razor. Short and simple results below.

Glass - very comparable. Gun to my head, edge to the G3, in the one particular set of conditions I assessed them in. You wouldn’t pick one over the other on glass.

Turrets - Razors are a bit firmer and louder, S3s are softer and quieter. Feel wise I’d prefer the Razor. I appreciate the giant text on the S3 would be good under match conditions, but does look a little naff. The big ass exposed screw on the windage turret is lame.

Reticle - I actually really like the open top half on the ZF-MRi. Nothing wrong with either rets, pick your fav.

Zero Stop - Razor wins easily.

Extras - As we all know, no sunshade or caps with the Zeiss which is lame, but threaded throw lever is nice.

No idea how it tracks etc, but yeah. Looks like a nice bit of kit. Head to head, same money, I’d pick the Razor - but there is nothing wrong with the Zeiss. Just my opinion, ymmv.

DVOR had the Zeiss S3 6-36x56 for well under $2000 not that long ago. Optics Planet has a current deal for the Razor Gen 3 version that brought it down to around $2024 by just chatting with their live human bots and if you call one of their senior sales associates you may be able to buy it for even cheaper than that.

No law enforcement no military no first responders certification necessary.

How do you like those caps Rob?

I really like them. They clamp down tight so don't slide off when opening or get knocked off when you don't want them to. They lock down tight when shut also. They are really well made. You did a good job.

I absolutely love my zeiss s3 6-36. Unfortunately I was to impatient to wait for the caps and got the mkm caps which work well.

Yup and if you get the Zeiss caps they come with another with each cap.

I was going to get those, but since I run my caps horizontal, the bulky-ass mounting design wasn't going to work... You can pretty much only mount those vertical. So, I had to get Butler Creek caps for it. Zeiss really needs to resign that huge screw tumor design, IMO...

You can mount them at 45 degrees off without issue.

I need them at 90º... Just out of habit for keeping a low profile when trying to fit through small spaces...
You talking the objective? How small of a space? Anything match related they are plenty small enough to fit through. Most stocks or chassis will be wider for over all width. I thought you meant the eye piece and being able to see elevation but still clear bolt.

Not much taller than the objective... No, not match related... 😉

So you are a super secret sniper and can’t talk about your missions? I get it. 😉 Lol

Does it really matter why he wants them sideways? He wants them that way, and bought caps to suit.

Was just asking as it wouldn’t be the first time here that someone thinks they need something only to learn they don’t. I don’t care how he wants to run them as it’s his rifle and he can run them however he wants. I was just asking a simple question as I was wondering what is so small that that won’t fit through. Sorry I offended you. Lol

And for anyone wondering about the width of the Zeiss caps here are a couple pics.

Rob01,
Considering the prices on Expert Voice, do you consider the Zeiss S3 4-25/6-36's worth the extra money over the comparable Burris XTR Pro's and the Steiner T6 Xi 5-30x56. The Vortex Razor Gen III 6-36x56 is just too heavy for my use. Is there a better source for Mil/LE than Expert Voice or EuroOptic? I am in the most corrupt state with the highest sales tax (10.5%), so that is factor. I am a long term Leupold user. I have had a great experience with Leupold scopes over 25 years. I have several Mark 5's. Unfortunately, their illuminated Mil scopes seldom show up on their VIP web page and Leupold will not take back orders. I purchased one illuminated Leupold from Scott, but he can o longer obtain Leupolds. Thank you.

Glass is close but the Zeiss are better in the examples I own. Expertvoice is about the best price on all of them. Is the Zeiss worth the extra? Really only something you can answer for your situation. Do you need the 46.5 mils in the Zeiss 4-25? Then it would be worth the extra. Do you want more power up to 36x? Then it would be worth it. All have great knobs and reticles so just look at the features in all and choose the one you like. Can’t really go wrong with any of the scopes you mentioned. Sorry I couldn’t give you a definite one way or the other but not that easy. I like all of them honestly.

Make friends with someone in a non sales tax state. Have them buy, and reship to you. All you need do is pre-pay or reimburse them costs. Wala no communist Cali tax.

I think either EuroOptic or Scopelist might have they eat the tax deals and military law enforcement discount. Some other dealers may not charge out of state tax too.
