Desert Tech A1 vs A2

Factory barrels are Lothar-Walther and very well made. Generally, if there's a factory barrel available to your desired specs, get it. Otherwise, get a custom barrel from any number of folks. Some of the more popular ones:
  • ES Tactical
  • Short Action Customs
  • TS Customs
  • Special Purpose Rifles
It's been my experience that during the crunch of the last couple of years, having spare barrel extensions means you're more likely to get a barrel spun up faster. A lot of folks who make SRS barrels aren't as backlogged waiting on barrel blanks; they're waiting on extensions. So if you can, try to source a couple extra extensions and keep them handy for situations like this.

Fellas ..... a Hide member responded to my WTB request for a lefty DT A1. Getting a beautiful rifle from a solid dude. Now I'm looking at barrels.

I can still get some factory barrels from DT, and I understand they are very good (Bartlein?), or I can also get the folks at Special Purpose Rifles to whip me up some Proof barrels for it. I would like to shave weight, but not at the expense of barrel quality/accuracy.

Thoughts on factory DT barrels vs. custom Proof barrels .... ?
Factory barrels are aweome. Think they are lothar Walther

For aftermarket sac and ts customs both make awesome barrels.

As an addendum to what @Dogtown said, sometimes even if you have extensions and proper blanks in hand, there is a long queue to get on the lathe so unless you've got time on your side, pick up a factory barrel or two that you find in stock somewhere

Just an FYI euro optic has an end of life section and there are several A1 lefty kits for cheap.

I read about the Orkan mod in this thread. For anyone that has done it, is it a substantial difference. My trigger has quite a bit of creep and the creep adjustment screw is as far in as the safety will allow. It’s serviceable but if it can be improbed then I’m all for it.

Never mind. I adjusted the creep screw until the trigger dropped and backed it off 1/8 round. The safety doesn’t work now but the trigger is excellent. I just need to get in there with a file when I get time and fix that. This mod is a no brainer.

It makes the trigger sooooo good. Just go slow with the file so you don't remove to much material.

I got it done. Didn’t take but about 15 minutes. It’a a necessity as far as I’m concerned.

Yes. The only limitation is that Gen 1 barrels will not fit Gen 2 / A1 / A2 / M2 chassis because it uses a different indexing geometry on the barrel extension.
