Burris XTR Pro 🇺🇸

No dust, but i haven't looked for it. The scope is clear as day and the best one I've ever looked through, so that's all I care about. The turrets are slightly on the mushy side, especially compared to my Cronus. I have zero issue dialing to the setting I need in a hurry though. Feel like turret feel is preference. Should I expect firmer turrets though? Anyone elses really notchy/clicky? Mine feel good honestly, not bad, but they're not as stiff as some other scopes I have.
Sorry man, don't pay me any attention, I just Like Tactile and audible turrets is all and the Burris just didn't do it for me.. Thats why we have many options, you may like something that I don't and vise versa..

All good. They’re definitely not as stiff as my athlons. But my first impression was that I liked them. For me it’s all about how quickly and easily you can dial exactly where you want. As long as I’m happy with that I’m happy. Some may not like the feel of course. Just wondering if my turrets are different than others, sounds like they’re not.

I would like to clarify that my Burris turrets are still “clicky and audible” just in a softer way

And then in a couple of weeks bash burris for having dust in there? Now we’re getting somewhere.
I've been running these since the xtr 3 was first released an no dust has got in there. I've shot in some of the harshest conditions with no ill effects. Do you also think that o ring holds the gas inside the scope

Whuuut..? There’s gas in a scope? Sounds dangerous….

Scopes are nitrogen purged although wasting my time writing this when you think your going to get dust in your scope is quiet novel

I’m glad they have made the 1/4 mil reticle. I like it so much that I have a second Pro inbound.
If the reticle is in 1/4 mil, are the click adjustments on the turrets also different? Or are they still .1 mil? Does that mess things up at all?

I know the .25 mil SCR2 is pretty popular. Some folks just swear by it as simpler and uncluttered.

The standard SCR2 is still the best seller, with the Tremor 5 in a distant third..

My oh my what did we ever do when we had only .5 and 1 mil increments on a reticle

That was suboptimal too.

.25 mils is dumb. If my target is in between subtensions, it's either .125, .375, .625, or .875 mils away. Now what do I dial if that's my choice to solve the problem?

This makes the MOA is dumb because fractions people look positively retarded. Anyone can add fractions of four lightning fast unless they have an IQ under 70.

I for one really like the 1/4 mil reticle in my pros. I have used the scr2 for years but like the slightly less cluttered reticle. I have bad eyes and with less hash marks it is easier for my eyes to focus.

And as far as the reticle and turrets matching. I don’t dial wind I only dial elevation. And holding wind, is the .05mil finer hold on the scr2 going to cause a hit and the 1/4 would miss??? I’m far from a great shooter but 1/4 mil is plenty fine enough to make corrections for wind and misses even on small targets.

The least amount of info in a reticle to get the results needed I think make it easier to understand and use the reticle without confusion as well as make it faster for my brain to pick the right spot in the reticle and not get lost.

I know I’m probably in the minority here but just giving my opinion and experience.

It's a PRS scope. With targets being 2 moa (.6 mil) wide, if you burn one just off the edge of the plate (pretty darn common), your correction to center is about .3ish, or if you really want to favor the other side of the plate and want to avoid gusts blowing you off again, .5.

Hold over one hash, and you're pretty much centered up. Hold 2 hashes and you're not going to miss off the other side, just favor it.

I've gotten lost on several reticles before (tremor3, CFR-Mil, EBR, APRS) because there wasn't enough easily read distinction between things like .6 and .8 at a glance. SCR reticles, MIL-XT, and JVCR give me the information I need without eating up counting hashes or trying to focus on how close it is to 1 or 0 mils.

Good news for all the folks who just couldn't love the Habanero Red highlights of the Pro, an all black XTR Pro is now in production.

This is the only picture I have currently. But they should hit the market soon!

Is it still coming with the white race dial? Looks like I might be in the market for another pro for the upcoming shooting season here in North Dakota.

If you’re solving math problems on the clock, that’s retarded. Quick reticle holds have zero to do with dialing. What are you on about anyway?

Nice strawman. Go back and re-read what I wrote....s..l...o...w...l...y

I’ll repeat…s-l-o-w-l-y, what does reticle holds have to do with dialing? If you mean using a reticle to range targets with like back in the Stone Age, the again, what’s you’re problem?

I get it that it’s not your cup-o-tea, but your comments are ‘tarded as to why. Same argument as you. Different view. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

In a 1/4mil system: You see the major measure, the half-measure between major measures, and a small-measure on either side of the full- or half-measure. It is instantly understandable which 1/4mil you're on at first glance.

In a .2mil system: You see the major measure, and 4 small-measures. You have to count from the ends or the blank center between lines.

It just makes sense when talking about speed and ease of processing to use the 1/4mil system. In a 1/4mil, each 1/4 is distinctly different and immediately understandable. In a .2mil system you have four similar lines that you have to process. Reticles like the Mil-XT handle this by making pairs of subtensions extend from opposing sides of the main stadia line but it isn't a perfect fix. Outside of needing some metric to zero with, "close enough" is almost always the answer, so 1/4mil just makes sense, to me.

I found out I prefer .2 rather than 1/4 mil.

I’ve been shooting the XTR Pro w/ SCR2 reticle for the better part of two years. I have one on my centerfire and one on my Vudoo and have been averaging 2-3 matches a month, plus a lot of dryfire. So it could be that’s what I’ve become accustomed to.

On my most recent build I went with a Leupold Mk5 w/ the PR2 reticle. I wanted to change it up a little, and I was eager to try out the 1/4mil reticle, plus I heard good things about the Leupy in general. I was also going for weight savings as this is the rifle I plan on shooting NRL Hunter with. In the last few weeks I put about 300 rnds thru the rifle w/ the Leupy, plus a shit ton of dry fire. I liked the scope, I really did. Glass was excellent, turrets nice and crisp, I like the way the elevation turret is laid out, and everything tracked well, but the PR2 reticle took some getting used to. My main complaint was at mid-magnification the 1/4 and 3/4 hash marks are pretty small.

Lastly, every time I went back to my other rifles that had the Pro’s SCR2 in .2mil reticle, I instantly felt like I was back home in my comfort zone.

I ended up trading the Mk5 to a buddy who had a Pro and we’re both much happier now. Rifle with the Leupy was 14.4 lbs, with the XTR I’m at 14.8 lbs, so well under the NRL limit.

So now I have three XTR Pros. @Birddog6426, I blame you, LOL.

If your going 1/4 then you have to comit and go all 1/4 swapping between the 2 is a recipe for disaster

I sure wish cabelas would carry this.. preferably in black.. have a bunch of points I need to use lol. I'll never understand how cabelas/ bass pro picks items to stock.

Looks like the price of these has dropped. I'm seeing them around $1400 at a handful of sites. Does anyone know if this is a sale or the new normal?

Are those the LE/Mil sites like Expertvoice or GovX? Never saw them near that price at normal retail sites. Got any links?

That’s not the normal. I have never seen them for that so you might want to buy it if you want it.

I’m sure some will say the razor 3 is worth almost double the price.

It seems to be the best deal on a premium scope out there by far, at least to me.
And it’s made in the 🇺🇸.

I think I've purchased every Burris of mine as the specific model was being discontinued. The one exception being an EV purchase on the Pro. I might have been a couple years late to every party, but the deals have always been amazing.

If the Pros start regularly going for <$1,500, they are going to cement themselves as a "best buy".

Is the Burris PRO a better buy at $1400 than a similarly priced Japanese scope such as the Tract Toric 4-25x50 ELR?

It's all reticles, that's why I think that Burris lowered the selling price.

I highly doubt Burris took their flagship scope and dropped its street price $700 for the new year. Not sure what that company is doing selling for that price but plenty of places still in the normal price range.
