22 creedmoor

Is anyone else running 22 CM in an AR10?

I have had mediocre results with 90 grain ATIPs with a CBTOL of 2.120”, CCI BR Primers and STABAL HD. I get 3100 fps out of a 26” Bartlein 400MODBB 1:7.7 barrel and about 1-1.25 MOA.

Has anyone tried the ALCO 90 grain bullets? Or RL25 or the Vihtavouri powders?

I am not but my experience with Hornady 88gr eldm which is very similar in measurements to the atip did not shoot under .7-.75 which was unacceptable.

I switched to Berger LRHT 85.5gr and now I’m .3 and better all day. This is with a bipod and rear bag off a bench.

Is this with a semiautomatic and what powder did you use if you don’t mind me asking?

Peterson has the following as max charges

STABAL HD might be an option. Hogdgon has data for a 90 grain ATIP that might help.

I am running some 52gr hammers in the AR platform.

Guys , I just got on here after a long hiatus, I have got to say, I am impressed with some of the test results you guys have been getting with this cartridge, I burned up one barrel shortly after starting this thread and I've got a spare barrel in the safe, it has always been one of my favorites, you comp guys running these new 90+ bullets are doing what I always thought was a bad ass match round.

I applaud you guys for smoking rounds down down range.
I'm back in the game again but for hunting only and I've got some 50 gr sierras im about to test out on some Yotes, Remember.....Speed Kills!

How many rounds did you put through the barrel before it was shot out?
 
Anyone have the 90 grain ALCOs start to come apart at 3060ish fps?

With a 26” barrel I was able to get them to 3150ish. But I can’t get a decent ES or group size. I think it’s because when the bolt goes forward the inertia moves them about .010. I have a crimp die so maybe that will help?

Just use 4831SC or VV555. Crimping will only lead to more problems, Probably.

I’ll get ahold of some of that VV555. Do you have a starting charge weight?

I also blew up 2 ALCO 90 grain bullets at 3070fps. 3030 fps didn’t have any problems and produced a 3/4” group.

What primers do you use?

How many rounds did it take to blow up a bullet?

CCI 450's
 
43gr as a starting load for 4831SC. I haven't shot 555 but my buddies that do praise it.

Impact velocity was about 1600 or so then?

From the pictures it seems that the bullet was able to achieve fragmentation it would seem. Is that correct?

With H1000 and 95smk I’m guessing I should find a load somewhere between 42gr-44gr? Of all the information I’ve searched through this is kind of what I have seen. Just wanted to make sure I was on the right path.

With H-1000 I started at 41.5 and went to 45.2, best node was at 3050s with 44.2 grains.

I tired, H4350, 4831SC, RL26, N565, and H-1000
Current load is 43.00 of N565 for 3010
 
Haven't seen much for Reloder 16 in here, so I'll share mine:

I have 5 to 600 through mine I would guesstimate maybe towards 700 I haven’t kept track like I should . Running 75’s at 3435 with 41h4350. Throat is really fire cracked. But it still shoots in the .3s

I tried that combo and it was terrible. TS Custom barrel, 1:7, 22". Then someone commented on this thread that was way too slow of a powder for that bullet. Settled on RL26 and 88 eldm which was amazing.

What speeds can I expect out of a 16.5 shooting 50-60gr pills? I am considering going to a smaller more efficient case like a 22GT over the creedmoor, unless I can still get blistering speeds with a short barrel. I already own the barrel so I am set on the length. Any input?

What you’re talking about is my setup. I have two loads for my 16” 22creed. Mine is a 1-8t X-Caliber.

60g Berger FBV @3430
68g Hammer HHT’s @3450 (leaning on it)

My dad’s 22-250 with a 50vmax and 8208xbr is 3620 in a 17” barrel. So a 22 creed should blow that out of the water.
 
If anyone is looking for 22 CM brass, Grafs has 100pcs of Peterson for $79. Comes in a bag, with a label that reads "Major Manufacturer blah blah blah" Don't know if the brass is "seconds" or blem but they look exactly like the 50 I bout for $56.
