Yet another...G65 serial number range....well marked bolt....with case......nice parts but no wear on camo painted......

I've owned 155 original Navy SEAL used Mk13 McMillan stocks, many of which were painted. However, not a single one of the 155 original stocks in my possession had camo paint that remotely resembled the camo paint on these 2 CMP rifles. Look at the photos of the CMP Mk13's below and ask yourself some questions.

What environment does this camo paint belong in? What nature structures does this camo paint intend to mimic? Who would have painted the rifles like this? Why would they have painted the rifles like this? Why doesn't the camo on these 2 rifles follow some very basic camouflage painting techniques that are actually taught to snipers? Why does the paint look so new? Not even any marks from storage or handling?

Most importantly, how does the CMP have 2 out of 2 Mk13 auction rifles with the exact same paint job, and yet none of my 155 original (and 100% verified by Kelly McMillan himself) Navy SEAL used Mk13 McMillan stocks had this type of "camo" paint?

0331….

Any chance they were demo’s? Safe queens? Hanging in ready rooms? On some admirals bookshelf? Basically floating around “outside” the user community but painted to look cool? (They have sort of an ersatz smear stock vibe.)

The CMP gets everything from “inside” the DoD unless I am mistaken. So hard to think they are fakes. Unless CMP built them from parts. But I’d think they were better than that, historical-wise.

Also could these have been printed at Crane or similar while the stocks you had/have (I have one… thank you!) have been painted and re-painted so many times that any semblance of what might have been a “first coat” has been lost? Has anyone ever stripped one of yours to see what is under the layers? (Sacrilege I know!)

If these were being offered on for stupid $$$ I’d pretty skeptical that it was some heehaw with a clone and Rustoleum. But isn’t CMP provenance pretty ironclad?

Just wondering. Now very curious!!

Cheers, Sirhr

Fake. Built at CMP from a real Mk13 receiver and bolt.
Dead giveaway for me (other than the terrible paint job) is the spacer system. When the navy procured stocks from McMillan, the spacer system used smooth-sided spacers. Currently produced spacers have a texture to them almost like popcorn ceiling.

Since my initial posting, I did some asking....My CMP contacts are not very reliable any more( most i knew have passed away) but i made some inquiries and 0812guns is is correct......CMP assembled from components in their possession....too bad they did not reach out to find a volunteer to assemble more correctly.....they have more stuff if my contact is reliable, but he has limited direct knowledge.

Shady mudder-fuqqahs. They went so far as to mount a scope/rings before painting, as evidenced by the protected spots on the rail.

Maybe the camo is a perfect match for a dirt lot out back of CMP in Anniston, AL.

Should be raising eyebrows right off the bat with a mod 3 bolt and mod 0-2 stock with lug/bolt.
