Shot show 2024

I know this is directed at me and I didn’t call anyone a retard for using a single stage, so maybe read that again.

When I bought my setup Dillon 650’s were like $600, no idea what they are now and then ideally you need two floating tool heads per caliber. One for sizer and expander mandrel in first run before prep and then another for dropping powder with the funnel setup and seating bullets.

I never used the auto drive on it and it wouldn’t have worked for the procedure I used anyway except for the first process since I was doing charges on an auto throw and dropping them down an area 419 funnel adaptor. I just used the case feeder and it was fast as shit that way.
BTW, they do make an autodrive for the 650 (750 AD fits the 650). @Threadcutter308 has (I believe) both his 650's set up with Autodrives.

So I don't totally highjack this thread, here's a thread on some of the discussions about Dillon's and Autodrives as well...

Yeah I know you can get them but I just never thought it was worth the cost even for the sizing stage considering how fast I could crank them out with the case feeder and doing it manually. I basically sat there cranking the handle and a couple minutes later my entire batch of brass was sized and ready for trimming.

You’re correct about throwing charges on the Dillon, the thrower just isn’t accurate enough to get super consistent SD’s even with ball powders. Stick powders it hate but you can can pretty good with 8208, good enough for some very consistent gas gun ammo. To get super consistent charges and seating you have to throw with weighed charged which is fast with an auto throw and use a floating head for seating too. It’s still faster doing that on the Dillon than single stage though IMO.

How is a Dillon regarding priming rifle srp and lrp, reliable?

And how are they trimming/ chamfering rifle cases?

Thanks

Priming is reliable and consistent. I used the trimmer some on 223 ammo but it didn’t satisfy my OCD so I did that as a separate process between sizing and loading on a giraud and then gave it another 5 minute run in the wet tumbler to clean the lube and brass shavings off before loading it.

Not that I’ve seen. Looks like they hinted at some new BLRF’s with a teaser pic but haven’t released them.
sound expensive and probably not better than the Swarovski unless you want to range something within ordnance distance

Judging by the pic my guess would be they’re a commercial marketed product like the Terrapin X and would probably have a LRF spec and price in accordance with that and not the military stuff. The Terrapin X uses a Leica laser which my understanding is it’s basically what’s in Leica 3200’s, it’s even warrantied through Leica. The military stuff has a bunch of features that sporting users would almost never need, but it was fun ranging one distance mountain top to another with vector 21’s just because I could do it. I could see how that could come in handy for western hunters but I doubt many are willing to pay the price for that.

Where could one find some good complete truthful information on a complete Dillon setup for precision rifle, like 6BR / 6.5Creed in my case?

Didn’t run into this here on the hide, especially by the ones calling single stage press users retards.

Isn’t a setup like this running 4-5k incl auto drive?

That’s my reasoning for not having looked into it to much. Thanks

Basically as in the article except powder done on autotrickler which is the limiting factor in speed so made myself two cups that are balanced to weigh the same so i can load while trickler is working next charge. folks have since moved on to two head variation on the theme and some have multiple powder chargers humming at the same time .

Dillon 550 set up this way is likely cheaper than most higher end single stage press setups.

Yeah, I just prep everything on the Dillon, then weigh charges with an ATv4, and seat with Wilson seater die and arbor press, while waiting for the next charge to drop.

I'll prep 500 cases, and store them. Then prime, weigh charges and seat bullets when I need ammo.

I prefer priming by hand for precision ammo, but the Dillon does it fine for standard ammo.

You rich goons. I reload with a dollar store sifter like this:

1/16 MOA all-day if I do my part. Breaks like a glass candy-cane. 30-06.

(AUTISTIC SCREECHING!)
lol I realize this is sarcasm, but it made me think of the winners circle podcast episode where Phil Cashin asks Austin Bushman about his reloading process. You will be doing a lot more autistic screeching if you watch it...spoiler alert...Bushman says he loads all his ammo on a Lee press.

The whole interview is great, but start at 29:05 for the reloading part if you are interested....

Sorry for the thread drift.

Ya, it's always entertaining when people think their ammo held them back at a PRS match.

Could you imagine the people you shoot with finding out you don't have mechanical cam over limit stops and surface ground shell holders? I bet he died of embarrassment.

MPA Matrix Pro II

MPA Hunter Comp Chassis

The thumb notches on the new bridge system for the Matrix Pro looks very functional. According to FB, MPA will have a program to send in your existing Matrix chassis to have holes added in so that it can utilize the new bridge system.

For some folks they work, the only issues I've ever had with priming were on a 550 and 750. I much prefer the hornady LnL design when it comes to primer function.

for my LR/ELR ammo I ram-prime because it gives the best consistency
