Lets see your USMC M40-M40A6!!!

Nice display! Glad you displayed the two “late” M40s at the bottom of that picture - which are the 1968-1969 era M40s used by other branches (Navy, Air Force, misc US Arsenals). Very nice.

Not sure if any of you follow the parts, but an M40A6 chassis sold yesterday for $10k. I was surprised he started it under 10 and even more surprised that it had no bids into the final hour.

So!.. What's the new hotness to start collecting parts for?
That was my chassis. Didn't have much bearing for where the price would go so started it at 7, either way I was well ahead. Only reason it ended at 10k was my buy it now mark. Based on the bids it would have gone higher. I got what I hoped for though. Market is crazy.

I previously had a Remington 40X 22lr M40 clone built, I was hoping for a pair unfortunately the stocks are quite different:

beautiful pair. saving for a rimfire or 223 m40 build...

Probably going to stick with the Leupolds at least for now. I have a green scope that Toki anodized, but I need to decide if it is going on my 6 digit smear project... I can't decide what scope to use so I will probably try them all out and then go with the one I like the best. Just waiting on the barrel now!

love that smear. didnt know you finally got one. great one to get. and you have to go with the Unertl on the smear...

what barrel did you get?

I went with a Hart barrel on the M40A1 so it would have a smooth finish to go with the smear stock instead of the rougher Schnider barrel. The M40 has a Douglas barrel.

Haha I hear ya! That's the first M40A6 chassis I've seen on Gunbroker... I was shocked because 7 is what people were paying for the suppressor two years ago!

I saw that too. A6 is such a sweet rifle I love mine. New hotness for me is the XM3. Still need couple items for the kit but she’s ready to be built now

Really missing that old $2,700 something price tag for one at eurooptic right about now.

It's nuts! I'm tempted to part with mine even with the project in the home stretch, if it'll get $12-15k. That's ATACR and CNVD money for other guns. The FA762SS is someone that has been trying to sell here for what people were bidding on them 1-2 years ago. My guess is it doesn't hit his reserve, if it actually breaks $4k. Prices on these have been on their way down consistently and even GB isn't biting hard anymore. Weird timing on all this!

Yeah it’s nuts not only the amount but how fast they’re going. I think that one was only up there for a couple hours before someone snagged it I Yeah it’s nuts not only the amount but how fast they’re going. I think that one was only up there for a couple hours before it was snagged .

If you are looking at letting yours go, I’m definitely very interested and got cash in hand

Supposedly PTG purchased 3,000 of the M40a6 chassis, the remaining inventory from Remington, discussed last Dec in a WTB thread....reported by @RemCustom6 ........and I occasionally nose around at CMP....I have great confidence that at some point some of the disposal inventory of a6s will appear there just like the XM3s or the Unertl 10x or even the MK13 "stuff" ....

Unfortunately that just isn’t the case. The A6 chassis in inventory will be cut in half just like all of the A5 stocks were. Only a few legit A5 stocks made it out and there is a way to tell the difference if it was legit. As far at PTG goes after talking to them the plan is to become to go to place for all the clone parts, by manufacturing the stuff themself. It sounds like there are only a couple complete chassis but it’s mostly parts and of those it’s mostly PSR because Remington was knee deep In that contract when it got canceled. They might do a great job and it sounds like they want to keep them competitively priced so we will see.

I never said it was 3000 A6 chassis. I said that PTG purchased 3000 chassis and or parts for that many. The RACS chassis came in numerous configurations throughout the years. Some parts don’t interchange with others depending on chassis design. I have 0 idea of what A6 parts PTG purchased. It could be none for all we know.

Hey guys, would someone with the McMillan A4 stock variant be able to make a quick measurement?

I’m looking for the length of the stock from tip to butt when the buttpad is completely removed. I believe the length is almost exactly 29” but I haven’t been able to get a solid answer.

Thanks in advance guys.

Xm3 finally made it home. Still hunting the SK T30 Torx wrench for the kit and a PVS 22 if anyone has a lead.

GAP built a1. Return stock bought directly from McMillan back in the day with matching numbers on bottom metal and TG, Unertl bought from CMP. Got Weaver base/rings clone from TMA when he was the only game in town. (Sorry to mention that name here).

While i know scopes were not serialized to the rifles, I watched the CMP sales for years for #1515 to match the stock. Finally bought the Unertl when it was obvious they were running out. Like 2 weeks later #1515 came up for auction. These pics were from its one and only trip to the range and then home for cleaning and back into the safe. The only 308 I had were 175gr SMK over 45gr of Varget. After zeroing, the Unertl hit center mass from 200 to 800 yards at the appropriate turret settings! I was thrilled! For 60yo technology, that Unertl still works. Can you imagine being a 8541 and stepping up from that crummy Redfield to the Unertl?

My only complaint with the final product is the scope mount places the scope really far forward. Would have to be a gorilla to shoot any position other than prone.

Not aware that he added any specific “stamp” on mine. I’ve attached his bio from GA’s website.

GA Precision staff

JEFF BOSSERMAN

Precision Rifle Smith

Jeff joined GA Precision in January of 2017 after spending the last few years being the old man in the class while studying Mechanical Engineering at George Mason University. Jeff served eight years in the Marine Corps. He spent a year and a half of that time as a range coach teaching new officers how to shoot rifle and pistol, the rest of his time was spent as an armorer with the bulk of that being a precision weapons armorer. As a plank owner (founding member) of MarSOC, Jeff set up the foreign weapons training and maintenance programs for the Foreign Military Training Unit. After leaving the Marine Corps in uniform, he returned to the Precision Weapons Section in Quantico, VA as a civilian to assist in converting the current M40A3s to M40A5s as well as building new M40A5s. Jeff specializes in Mil-Spec rifles at GA. When not at work, he enjoys playing his guitar, mountain biking, or selflessly trying to drink up the world’s supply of scotch so others won’t be led astray by it.

New material and new geometry almost matches performance of factory aluminum and it's 100 grams lighter... Aluminum deflect 0.6mm and new printed deflect 0.8mm under the same load... Few more changes and the printed hanguards will as stiff or stiffer, and lighter...

Black one is lastest version...

Needing clarification for an A6

-Is there a specific model of Harris bipod?

-I see that the Larue mount is very hard to find in civilian hands, anybody have one they dont need or whats the next closest?

-For the scope, was NF used or is the S&B really the only "accepted" scope for an A6?

Thanks!

The Harris bipod is the S-BRM 6-9" with notched legs with pod lock lever

The Larue LT840-34-0 is the correct mount as you mentioned but there are also pics of the Larue LT845 and Badger sasr rings used as well

Correct glass would be the Schmidt and bender 3-12 MTC turret with gen 2 mil dot reticle, Premier heritage 3-15 Single turn elevation with gen 2 mil dot reticle or the nightforce atacr 5-25 with tremor 3 reticle.
