Why not 5 round mags ? Or blind 3 rounds ? Or single shot ?
I prefer this belt fed.

Took the AI out and it's new stable mate the trg22a1. AI in 308 shot my generic m118lr clone load as typical 1/2moa. Not sure what happened when I threw on the suppressor as it typically does the same or better unsuppressed. I can only guess that was about the last set of groups I shot so it likely is shooter skill deficiency.

6x47 needs work. I have a bunch of varget I tried using for it since it worked excellent in my 6.5x47 but I don't think it's going to work. 33.3gr today in 45deg temps and I was getting bad cratering and only hitting 2877fps out of a 26" barrel. Going to try h4350 and h4831sc and see what she does.

Also tested the atlas spigot and have determined I'm not a fan as I was warned. It'd solid when it's tight but the damn thing just keeps loosening up. Going to put the EI back in there and call it a day.

Have you tried the 300 Win Mags? I'm curious about this as well since I'd rather seat heavy 6.5 projectiles out past short action mag length.
Yes, I tried the 12-round 300 WM magazine, way too much forward space, the rounds would just nose dive, and if I pushed them forward, the rounds would jump out.

All my 308 mags have an internal length of 2.973", and I can fit six 6.5 PRC rounds in a mag, and with the MKM mag extensions, I can reliably fit 11 rounds.

They’re NF rings with their RAP-i for a diving board. Think I’ll switch back to an ARC M Brace for the MARS lc though. Just wanted the height of the RAP to get over a clip on with the laser. Still testing.
I need to get a vortex 4000 over the ridiculously tall clipIR ELR

AI UK still make AW's for the international market. They aren't imported into the US unless you can import it on your own.
I’m in England and have brought rifles over here from the USA privately. It shouldn’t be too difficult to do it in reverse. I’m pretty sure that there are minimum runs for the AW series to be produced.

I passed on an AWM last year and seriously regret it. I’m also having sellers regret moving my AT for an AX308. There is something about the legacy series and the comfort of all that plastic.

Seeing as this is the AI thread it would be rude not to include a gratuitous shot

Well I'll be damned. I wonder if we got a kind of group buy going and imported a few of them at a time if it would be more worth while. Wish I knew this before I got my trg 😂. Would have sprung for an AW folder this route.

Edit: having had both the AX308 and now the AT I can understand the regret. The AX in a multical platform like the axmc makes sense but the AT is better than the AX (in my experienced opinion) unless all you do is bench shoot.

Two reasons for this post:
First, the MC is ready to roll for the first ELR match of the year around here next Saturday

Second. I have made some loading/staging shelves for the ZERO press for myself and a couple of buddies. I have 2 sets left. They are bead blasted but no anodize and may have some imperfections.

I want to give back to my Brothers from the AI Mother so I am giving ( that's "free" for you knuckle draggers) the last 2 units to the first 2 public " I will take it" posted with a pic of your AI, as long as A: you have been a member of this forum at least as long as me and B: You actually own an AI. and C: you promise not to put any 6.5CM rounds on the trays:ROFLMAO: (just kidding) oh, and you have to live in the CONUS since I am covering shipping also.

I really appreciate all the knowledge that is passed around on this forum. You are a really good bunch of guys! So lets see how long this takes lol

Nice looking ELR rig! What are the specs on your barrel and caliber? Did you fab the forend? Think I may have seen a post awhile back about that?

Damn!

I definitely have the required credentials but no 419 press 😞

I did get my hawk hill 260 barrel from Manzella mounted up yesterday though. Got some initial measurements taken and can begin my reload process in spring. She’s a beast with the 28” tube but balances perfectly.

Its a Bartlein 5r 31" 300NM, I am running Berger 245's at 2977fps. Just getting it broke in. Yes I made the forend. I wanted to make sure that there was no debris getting in-between the barrel shoulder and face of the action so I came up with this idea for my ELR barrels. It switches out easily with the factory forend.

Nice. I have a 30" Bartlein on my axsr, also shooting the 245s. Think I am getting 3030 so I bet you will speed up a bit. If you ever want to build up one of those forends for the axsr, let me know. 😀

I went the opposite way…bought the AX first because I couldn’t find a folding sage green AT or thumbhole skins. Meanwhile I became seduced by the siren call of the AX mono-color sage green.

Later on I found some thumbhole skins. File them away.

AI then announces some semi-retirement of the AT and I panic-buy one as a green folder was finally available. The perfect field AI.

The AX in a multical platform like the axmc makes sense but the AT is better than the AX (in my experienced opinion) unless all you do is bench shoot.
< slowly raising hand > although I also shoot from a tripod.

Was planning on selling the AX after I got the AT but after shooting both side-by-side from the bench…man, it’s sorta like deciding to sell a kid lol.

Page 28, I got you covered (and don't reload... Yes that's a 6.5)

Hipster as shit, I've been into TT and 6.5 before it was cool.

Later this week I hope to get up to Sturgis to LRI and let Chad examine the AT bolt and action to see if something can be done about an aftermarket solution for alternative bolt face sizes that don’t rely on having a spare bolt assembly to convert.

The project might be impractical or excessively pricey, Chad will have to make that call. My inclination is to see if a one piece bolt body/bolt head can be made that simply needs an existing firing pin assembly to plug into it and run. I’m lazy and don’t want to screw with roll pins and extractor springs any time I want to change bolt face sizes.

Since I’m not an AI expert I don’t know if I’m pissing up a rope here, and I’m curious what you guys think? If you were buying such a thing would you rather have a bolt head to swap after disassembling your existing bolt, or a complete assembly needing only your existing firing pin?

I haven’t gotten any further than an initial discussion with Chad, but he’s in business to make money so my guess is making a one off project like this isn’t in the cards unless there’s a wider market to sell “X” amount of them to justify setting up a machine.

What say you gentlemen?

Your earlier sentence about the AT being the perfect field AI is why I prefer it. The AX was more comfortable but the AX and that little hump transition to the hand guard killed it for me off obstacles. Had it been a better transaction from. Receiver to tube like the cadex or Sako trg22a1 id have never sold my AX (although a pile of hospital bills ultimately had me sell it back then). Nothing wrong with either, the AT just fits my needs better.
