Powder IN-STOCK thread

Where has this been stated and by whom and what is the cause of it?
There was talk about this last fall, that after the winter, there was a production backlog. Basically .mil stuff is re-stocked, so huge orders on books. Consumers are getting batches now, because buyers put in orders like a year or two ago, before this stuff, and these old wholesale orders were manufactured like a year ago...but are just now getting through to retail. The next shortage is not right now, on the shelves, but is being forecasted to lag a bit based on the bookings/priotizations etc.

Just go to YouTube and search "powder shortage". A shit ton of videos

Just a matter of time before we’re on Powder Valley doing the refresh rodeo all over again… I don’t miss those days.

I know there's a powder shortage. The specific claim was that Hodgdon is openly talking about it.

And my question is, "where"?

Finally, I don't consider youtube a reliable source of much of anything other than Mylie Cyrus wrecking ball videos.

tons of chit chat by fudds, bloggers, & youtubers

I was only able to locate one statement made Dec 1, 2023 by Vista Outdoors (Alliant, Federal, CCI, others), nothing from Hodgdon directly. Would love to see a direct link to an official statement by a powder company, not some guy named Gavin stating the obvious & speculating for clicks

SK LR Match in stock @ Midway this AM, if anyone's looking

Shooters World powders have all been increasing as well.

Precision and SW4350 have been "expensive" for 2 years or so now, but now all of their powders are increasing. PowderValley still has a lot of it marked at the old prices, only Blackout in stock, which I do like in 223 and 300BLK.

Midway shot all of the SW prices to the moon, is this because "election year" or an legitimate reason?

"Due to world events our suppliers have notified us of unprecedented demand for and an anticipated global shortage of gunpowder, and thus has increased our prices substantially," Vice President of Sales, Sporting Products Brett Nelson said in the letter. "We must therefore raise our pricing to help offset those increases." - Newsweek DEC 2023
This is pretty direct...Vista is a public company, so this is SEC regulated comms, by corporate executive, etc...On its face this is a legitimate channel for non-public info making its way to the public...In other words, if he's lying its a big problem...

My business partner was told this at shot show directly by Hodgdon reps and I was told that directly by Hodgdon when I called them this week asking why some powder jumped almost 100 bucks per 8lb jug.

Just a suggestion and probably not the place to put this post. But you who are concerned about finding powder in a "no powder of any kind" situation need to learn to make your own powder. And before you think I'm crazy for suggesting this think about it.

Years ago I decided I would learn to make black powder. Yes it is legal. The thought at the time was getting into fireworks. I also have a couple of black powder guns. Then someone mentioned on a post like this about loading cartridges with it. So I tried it in 44 magnum. Turned out great. It is dirty and you have to clean the gun every time you use it. Materials are readily available, you can even produce some yourself, and it is not really a hard to learn process. You have to be careful. It is not smokeless powder and will not perform like it. And I probably wouldn't use it in my 300 PRC. But is an option for a "no powder" scenario

Probably already mentioned, Midsouth Shooters has free hazmat on primer powder $90 order.

And it went fast today again. It was all I could do to jump in and get a jug of that N555 similar stuff today. The demand for less expensive powder is real….

Free shipping and hazmat on powder and primer orders over $299 at Bruno's this weekend through 2/19, and they're one of the few reloading component suppliers that don't hit me with sales tax, so that's a nice bonus.

They just received a shipment of CCI 450s this afternoon, 80 left as of now... I bought some to restock the cabinet.

I'd load up on H4350 too but they ran out of 8# jugs late this afternoon. I switched from H4350 to RL16 quite a few years ago, but prices for Alliant are now ridiculous. I'll be switching back to H4350 to save a few bucks and also save time on cleaning... RL16 might be a bit faster, but it's much dirtier than H4350.

Graf has quite a bit of powder, I picked up some H4350 as well since it is much cheaper than the RL16. Also had Vhit 565.

Doesn't it look like more places are doing things to help sell powder now days? Seems like a lot of places are offering free hazmat or shipping or both. Wonder if this is a sign that thier sales are slowing on it? Hope so, then maybe we can get back closer to a more natural price vs this inflated one that's beyond the cost increased and inflation increases.

But at the same time they’re telling us there’s an upcoming shortage.

Maybe just a big sales pitch because people can’t afford to buy it anymore.

Yeah could be. Either way, demand is going down it looks like. Thank goodness. Hopefully that fool biden and his gestapo won't do anything to change that

I just got back from going to get 6k srp and a jug of 6.5staball locally. It's a big place and they place pretty big orders ect... owner said powder is going up again by $10-$20 / lb... just FYI

Midsouth free hazmat >$99
I think it was Fhm03e but can double check if that doesn’t work

About three months back, Brownell's, Precision Reloading, and Graf's had them, but since then just 1 pounders.
I don't use it often, but when I do I don't like to play the new-batch game so I won't bother with 1 pound. Glad I grabbed it when it came up.
Yeah I don't do the 1lb ones either. 8lb only. I'm not out but I'm lower than I'd like to be. I've been looking for a while and just haven't been able to find it

It's getting so bad even the scam websites are out of H4895.
Now that is some funny shit. The local Murdochs got two one pounders last week. I just happened to be in there when the guy put them on the shelf. I grabbed them before he could put the tag up. I asked if they had the whole case in the back and he said all they got was the two bottles. I looked at him a little sideways and he said they get onesies twosies of powder all the time. That was the first H4895 Ive seen in years.

Couple of LGS had plenty of the most popular powders in stock but at a steep prices upwards to 67 buck for 1lb. Thats crazy! Seen only one 1lb of RL 10x and the rest of the powders were Hodgon stuff so it looks Alliant powders are really scarce.

I’ve been watching those SMK’s all afternoon. They’ve showed out of stock for me ever since they were listed.

They had Qty 6 in stock yesterday when I was on the site. The Bergers were already gone I just missed them or I would have ordered everything I could. They went fast..

LGS (or what amounts to the best thing I can call local, it’s 45miles from our home) had some powder and primers yesterday. The prices were very high, much higher than the big mail order houses. Still purchased some Varget and some small pistol primers, both of which I use a lot of. they need the business and I need their help whenever I need to receive or send off a firearm. Would have purchased more but I wanted to save some for the next fellow.

There’s gotta be bots grabbing that stuff from American Reloading.
It sucks; that was a good honey hole for a while.
