Mauser 98 Israeli rechambered to 308 in the 40s how is the barrel?

Looks clean… no copper fouling. Rifling isn’t especially sharp. It’s been shot a lot! Looks like some pitting/graying from corrosive primers and/or not enough cleaning at some times.

That said… bore scopes make everything look terrible. The real question is… how does it shoot!

Oh and that’s “Mauser.”

This is a mouser.

Neat rifles!

I had one a few years ago. A great fun rifle to shoot, especially with 7.62mm ammo being way cheaper than 8mm.

Mine was built with bits from about 5 different guns, but had the byf Mauser factory code on the action and a Czech bottom metal and trigger guard.

Many came out of Israel, they are VERY popular with reinactors as 308 blanks are so much cheaper then 8mm blanks, and the gun does look the part.

It looks par for the course. One thing I have learned about these old guns is you never really know till you shoot it. I have some that sewer pipe would be the best description, and yet the thing shoots wonderful....it has no right to. Others that look like they should shoot well just don't.

I would like to see photos of the entire rifle if you can, have you shot it yet.

I picked another one up recently. I sold the first one stupidly. This new one has a spectacular bore.

And now the new one is at the gunsmith getting a long side rail fitted. And a commercial zf39 is sitting in my closet patiently. I got a 3" 10 rd group at 100 with the iron sights. Promising. Much I can improve on and tweak with the rifle

Savannah?

I still have mine but I rebarreled it in 2000 to .260 Remington and a ramline Tupperware stock. It’s an Austrian Mauser. It shoots 140 grain bullets great.
