Cell Networks Down?

Still up in the Denver area

Newsmax is reporting it. I tried mine (Verizon) and it seems to work in Tampa Bay, but we'll see.

My coworkers with att were complaining about not service this morning around 6:30 here on the Texas gulf coast. Verizon still rocking along. I did have some signal issues for a couple hours on Monday with Verizon. It kept dropping to one bar of 4g when it's usually pegged out 5g. Sometimes it would drop off altogether but it wasn't out but for a few seconds.

I haven't looked at the solar activity but its caused problems for me in the past. If that were the case here though it should be across the board.

ATT offline in South Central Texas.

funny... my wife randomly asked me yesterday,.... do we have enough prepping done around the house for SHTF? I told her no, theres never enough. and i need to get a generator transfer switch installed soon.
We just ordered ours (Magnum) with a Kubota 10k diesel generator. We already live off grid, have a well, etc. We currently have a propane generator to charge batteries & power the entire house in inclement weather, but the propane industry is sketchy in NW Nevada. Good luck!

Ours goes out every power outtage. T-mobile is usually out for 5 days at a time. Verizon is usually back on when the power gets restored.
About 6 or 7 power outtages so far this year. Honda EU generators are the best.

Funny… right after a Netflix series about cell networks going down… produced by Barry and Big Mike… the cell networks go down.

Down in VT, too. At least parts of it.

Sirhr

With foreign actors constantly poking at our shitty infrastructure, the only surprise is that this doesn't happen more often.

It would be a real shame if the cell networks all went down today.
The young would demonstrate their insanity by attempting to call the suicide prevention hotline - because their phones don't work.

Irony is that a downed cell network could put an actual crimp in public education. Our schools have embraced "technology" and use the ubiquity of cell phones in the classroom to engage the students. Pop quizzes (and other "are you paying attention activities") are as often as not done via cell phone as they are paper.

Yep, would be hilarious to watch all these millennials lose their fucking minds because they can't broadcast to the world what they do 24/7. God forbid these vapid twats couldn't take a selfie in front of the mirror for a day or two. Oh, the humanity! :)

Meanwhile, I could give two shits if cell service goes down for 1 day or 1 month. I don't need a cell phone for anything.

Not all of us have a desk top PC in the shitter...

True that over reliance on technology can be a real issues in case of SHTF events. This outage is probably the tip of iceberg and insignificant in comparison that what can append. I'm monitoring some group in the telco industry for years and they have not a lot of information on the issue which is quite surprising.

** update: seem to be related to the AT&T wireless core network. Outage started around 5am CST

But how will we ever find out what 90% of them had for lunch today?

ATT is down here in SW Michigan.

News is saying other carriers are down as well. Seems awfully strange to have multiple carriers down at the same time.

Wanna take bets on a Stuxnet derivative?. That code is now in the wild and has been modified several times.

The ones that are down are using some of the AT&T infrastructure. At least that's what's being reported.

One of my guys had a full meltdown, threw a fit. Had to go home. We have become a weak species. Hell, I'm thankful for the downed comms - its finally quiet, no hair-on-fire emergencies that aren't really important. But I have no idea how I'm gonna get my car warranty extended now.

Verizon is working in N Ky, ATT completely shutdown here though. So is cricket (tried checking on the older folks) no luck either.

I ended my landline telephone service in 2017. I often thought that was a mistake

Here I am with a down ATT phone (Wifi calling still works)
My Verizon phone is still working

Then I am thinking I don't know anyone with a landline anymore, other than 911, if I had a landline while cell service was out, who would I call? :D

One huge drawback to technology is when it stops working

heard there were 2 "x class" solar flares. not sure if related.

Verizon is working here in So-Cal. Has been since I got up for work at 0330.

Two people here at work today, both with att, one guys phone works, one doesn't. Strange.

very unlikely. They are low in intensity, even if they are X class. The issue seem to be somehow related to a part of the AT&T core network. The latter is also used by other service providers to provide some services.

"Witty quips" aside, hospitals and emergency services are reporting problems with communications, especially 911 calls.

This is where we had trouble. The local government switched out landlines to run on Verizon. When we had the last outtage. Police dispatch and the clinic had zero phones that still worked. Guessing they figured out a better plan B by now.
