They’re meant to run suppressed it seems.

  • Material: 4150 Cro-Moly Vanadium
  • Finish: Black Nitride
  • Twist: 1/8 twist
  • Gas Journal: 0.750"
  • Chamber: .223 Wylde
  • Profile: Continuous Taper
  • Barrel Shoulder: Square
  • Gas Port: 0.110"
Advantages:

  • Less gas sensitivity to high back pressure suppressors due to short dwell time
  • Continuous taper pushes weight closer to receiver to help balance your rifle when using a suppressor
  • Generous gas port size to allow usage with low back pressure suppressor designs or without a suppressor

My buddy has that 14.8 siphon barrel. Seems to run perfectly for him. Pretty soft shooter from the little I ran it. I thought about getting one then realized I don't need another 5.56.

If I didn't already have a 14.8" RLGS I'd be all over it.
Ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain. Get the shorter barrel for more maneuverability in tight quarters and maximum weight reduction for your application.

I mean... c'mon, this is really, really basic stuff: any excuse to do another build (you know you want to put that spare buffer retaining pin you have lying around to use).

Huh, I see you've met the little devil that sits on my shoulder.

How are you liking that 14.8 after a few years now?

I was looking at the 14.8" Rifle or Intermediate gas vs something like the SOLGW V2 14.5 midlength barrels...

I run suppressed 90% of the time, so this peaked my interest but I get a little worried with a less known company

I like it quite well. Part of me hesitates to recommend it to anyone just because it has to be borderline functional, but I haven't run into a tangible reason yet to warn someone away from them. I've never even tried it suppressed and it works, so I'd be willing to bet they'd be well into the proper operational window with some backpressure screwed on the muzzle.

It's my second barrel from SOT, and they both shoot exactly the same, 1.5-2" with blaster 55gr and .8-1.3" with match handloads. So very adequate for my purposes. If you catch them on sale they're so cheap that you aren't out much if you aren't happy.

Anymore and I'd still want an intermediate for the 14.5" ish barrels. Mid is just hard to go back to. I'd like to do an intermediate 13.5" for my next custom barrel but that's a ways out still.

I was definitely leaning towards the intermediate for that reason. Not sure I’ll notice a big difference between that and the SOLGW barrel but it’s a pretty cool design and it’d be fun to try out
