I know the 30 cal magnums are ideal, but I wanted to give this match a whirl on a “budget”. I rebarreled my PRS gun in 6.5 PRC. Currently pushing 153.5 hybrids at around 2950 fps. We’ll see how this goes!

The past winner did it. From what I heard, mag went down. He single fed it. Won the competition at that. Hopefully someone that actually knows will chime in.
Rumor has it the guys 2 years ago won it with that exact cartridge/bullet/velocity
Ya I think the teams 2 years ago was won by a pair of 6.5 PRC.
I single fed a couple years ago. It's do able but a major pita. You start standing so carrying and setting down ammo is crappy. If you can mag feed do it.
Its not really which one is better, it's if you miss can you spot the splash? Can you manage the recoil and get back on tgt? Both are capable for the match.
I know but him and nolegs wins the match every year and they used both so just curious what his thoughts were.
300 Norma for me, didn't see the high winds they talked about previous years. Had some wind, but apparently not as bad like I stated last year. Also, got rained on last year. So was a muddy, and wet comp.
I had mag length issues and ended up single feeding 2 years ago. I now run a sled and single feed. I have never timed out because of it or felt rushed any more than normal. I had an 8 round block made out of PVC that works well enough for me. I couldn't find a picture of my block but here are a couple from NF last year.
I hope it's cooler again but not the rain lol yes the wine wasn't to bad last year.

Both have pros and cons. But the 6.5 is 2x the wind call of the .300nm so you really gotta be on top of wind.
And they just casually win even having to make twice the wind call.. Got some kind of deal with the devil at that match.

Just finished up at the range, finally.
Did a ladder with N570 from 83.0 grains to 87.0 grains, with the 220's. Velocities went from 2980 fps to 3060.
I also shot 5 rounds of a charge weight of 85.0 Grains N570 with a random seating depth with the 220's, and shot a nice group with a velocity of 3010 fps.
I'm thinking of just using that 85.0 grain load for this comp. Seems to shoot good enough.
I made the mistake this weekend of wanting to test an 87gr n570 load that previously shot well and accidentally loaded them at 78grs(which is re26 load weight for me). Hour drive to the range an hour there and hour drive back---- wasted. Load did avg 5.8std dev and a spread of 15.1fps. Max was 2837.5 and min was 2822.3.

I could probably step on it and get another 100+ fps out of it if I wanted to, but I don't see any point. ~3,000 fps with a 220 should be more than adequate.

I am doing now is making up conservative loads to see which ones perform better that is give greater potential I will do more definitive testing on the better prospects. Right now I am using several powders. with a bullett that hase the best G1 G7 coefficients.

What are the preferred bipods for this match?
I currently have an LRA F-class bipod on my rifle, but looking back at previous years it looks like Atlas, Ckye-pods and Elite-Iron are really common. Don't see any LRA's in the mix.
Debating on getting some HH feet for my LRA, or just going with my OG Ckye-pod.

I’ve run accu-tac and ckye pod both work but easy adjustment of the ckye pod made it a winner for me. I’m not familiar with the LRA but had a peak and looks like it would work also
And that is why imo 300nm blows unless you are running 240+ class bullets.... I can push a 220 with 78 gr of retumbo 2950-3k np in a 300prc... you need 9-12% more powder in 300nm to get that same speed...
Sold all my 300nm stuff after I started comparing both....

If I was to do it all over again, I would do .300PRC.
But I purchased my action before .300 PRC was a thing, and have a couple .300NM barrels for it.
My current barrel is really slow. But it is what it is.

I have the norma improved I left a 30 nosler and wish I didn't honestly or went with 300 prc for lapua brass. I have actually been thinking I should go back to a fast 7mm for the match less recoil and great performance
Have you tried running 245s or 230s?... I don't think yours is slow imo most guys I know it's been the same story. It's honestly NBD if you have the action already and don't mind the extra powder.
These really long sierra 230s look interesting. I'm going to try and chrony them this weekend with 78.5gr retumbo. I can't seat anywhere near .020 tho off and still mag feed but if I can get them near 2900+ I will be happy.
I have tried 230's.
85.0 grains of Retumbo puts them at 2970 fps out of this barrel. Haven't tried anything heavier than 230's though.

I remember seeing the articles when Ortiz won a few years ago he ran 300 norma berger 220 30 inch barrel at 2980.
When litz won 300 norma berger 245 2875 I can't remember 28 or 30 inch barrel.
So maybe those are the correct speeds
