I'd like to build a left hand 308 hunting rifle. I'm not quite sold on the Bergara HMR in 308 in left hand. I'd like to keep the barreled action south of 1200k. This won't be for long range hunting either, just general hunting and some target shooting.

I've built several left hand remage rifles with Remington actions. You can find old left hand 700s for $500 and criterium barrel and barrel nut for $500.
I just put a Pierce action on a 6.5 creedmoor criterium heavy sporter in a Pure Precision stock. I have just under $2500 into it and got to tell you its worth every penny. While my Remington actions builds shoot pretty good they required load development, bedding, on and on and on. The Pierce action fit like a glove in the Pure Precision stock, adjusted the head space torqued it to "guten tight" and shot it. Its by far the best shooting rifle I've ever owned. Custom actions great but the wait time is painful.

Being a lefty limits the bargain options. I'm left handed as well, so I feel your pain. A lefty Tikka is probably the way to go. Depending on the type of hunting you do (carrying it around for miles at a time vs. walking 300 yards to a stand and sitting all day) you might consider a CTR over the Lite or Hunter as it will be nicer for the target shooting you mentioned.

Im in a similar position as him. I have a LH b14 HMR and am not liking the fit so much after trying to mount my scope. I've already sunk a lot of time and money into the accessories and am willing to keep trying until I get it to feel right, but I'm open to other brands and possibly custom builds.
I've never seen OEM Remington LH actions and I've been looking for years. The main thing I don't like about the Bergara is the bolt handle design. They changed it over the years and the original one was more akin to the OG Rem700 handle. I'm going to get an anarchy outdoors handle, and some knobs and see if I can't make it fit right cuz it gets way too close to my scope even with a 20 MOA rail & 1" rings. I can't get a good purchase on it. Additionally, i'll have to have someone install an adjustable buttplate because my cheek comb has is so high, that the butt pad no longer sits square to my body. I'd like to go lower with rings & cheek, but then that makes the bolt handle problem even worse.

If after all that, it still ain't right, i'm giving up and will get a tikka or ruger american in a Mcmillan a5.

The CTR was discontinued in the US (at least in Left hand). But if hes getting an aftermarket stock and barrel it doesn't matter anyways.
