Tikka T3X Super Varmint 223

Got the Tikka out to a mile yesterday. Our DOPE calculation gave us 24.5 mils, but we finally got a splash on the hill and ended up at 27.5 mils. You can see the small hits as the 88 grain bullets vs there 6.5 vs 300WM. Actually its harder to see the 6.5 vs 300WM than the 88 grain hits.

I went 3/10 on the 88 grain load, took us 5 rounds to figure our DOPE then 3/5. Mybuddy took the 300WM and went 3/5 with 2 shots on top of each other on right side of the target and I shot the 6.5CM for a couple of pops. We were very happy to get on steel with the Tikka at a mile. You can see the small pops with the Tikka.

Wait wut?
Your 8 twist 223 is stabilizing 88s?

You gotta velocity on that?

Yeah, that would be impressive. It would probably need a good amount of velocity, but I bet it would do it. I think I'm gonna buy a Super Varmint and have the barrel chopped to 18" to lighten it up a touch. Probably gonna reload 80ELDM's or 77TMK's for it.

i put together a Super Varmint for a PD hunt I'm going on in June , started out factory then changed it up a bit
best groups are with 77's but 55 Vmax's are what I'll be shooting on the PD trip.

Our first load that we shot this was hotter, but our last batch was 2,755 FPS. If my poor memory serves me, we were trashing brass and was maybe 100 FPS faster. I almost fucked up my bolt with that load.

And yes the 88 ELD load stabilized and was sub-MOA. My 1/9 Rem 700 stabilized 80 grain SMK bullets but shit the bed on the 88's. They tumbled. Definitely right on the brink.

Who makes that stock? I like my stock OK but for some reason I don't like the recoil impulse which is admittlingly a weird thing to say on a bolt gun. Not sure if its the 2 stage trigger or what, but its not the same as my REM 700 5R. It's just odd to me. And I have shot the shit out of the gun and still something bugs me.

I didn't care for the 2 stage on my tac a1.
Put a want to trade up for a single stage ad in the PX and had 5 people dm me in 10 minutes.

Much happier now that all 6 of my Tikkas are the same.

Hello,
yes it's a GRS Berserk , the for end has had a 1/4X1X10 plate added and has been filled
it's been pillared and bedded , and i just switch bottom metal to Atlasworxs Bottom Metal
and using Ruger & MDT mags. rifle weighs in a 16 lbs. have the factory trigger switched out the spring
and trigger set at 20 oz .

Had a .223 barreled action sitting around so I picked up a cheap Boyd’s stock and decided to do my own take on a Super Varmint. Completely bedded and refinished.

Have since added Waters Rifleman 10-round mags and an SRS full length Arca rail. 75 ELDs around 2950 🤌🏻🤌🏻

Nice. That sorta looks like a Pro Varmint stock, although maybe the forend is different. I have a walnut PV and it’s super comfy. Having a CZ 17 Hornet installed in it and just got word that it’s done.

Noce paint job too. 👍

Yes you are correct - it’s a pro varmint. Picked it up as a project stock needing a lot of work… drilled out and installed pillars, cleaned up the inlet and recoil lug area, and opened up the barrel channel. Bedded the bottom metal and action with MarineTex, and then new paint on top of all that.

Works great now but it was a labor of love for sure. The SRS full length Arca fits great on the PV forend if you need something for it. Slightly radiused on the top so it sits nice and flush. Only spot it doesn’t is back by the magwell where it kinda steps down, but overall it’s impossible to tell.

Was that rail installed in that pic you posted? I can’t see it…maybe it’s is countersunk (term?) down in there?

I had a Henderson or SRS 3-4” rail installed right in front of the magwell as I sorta hate a full-length rail. I want some wood to grab onto, ya know?

That reminds me, I gotta pick up the gun! The gunsmith just finished it.

No that was before I had the rail installed. Here it is with the rail. Kinda shows you what I was talking about in front of the magwell… there’s a little step-down that creates a small gap.

You could remedy that entirely by pushing the rail out further towards the muzzle. I just wanted the flat surface for bag stability.

Yeah, that little step down bit is where I snuck in that short rail. Thx for the pics!
