Precision Rifle Gear Can Chaps, Scope Chaps Suppressor Cover

I'm not sure how you'd get there without going to a rigid cover that bolts on, which sounds way less convenient. I know someone makes one, but the less allen keys I need to pull out, the better.

For me, any of the attachment systems are fine. I put it on, check zero, check the can/cover, then shoot the rest of the day and I don't touch it until I'm finished. I'm not one to pull it back after every stage, so the extra 10 minutes leaving the rifle uncased to cool as I pack up doesn't affect me too much. I've never had a coverslip more than a couple mm.

The only one that really irks me is the libertys defense metal wire. Not because it doesn't work (It works exceedingly well), but because you need fucking gloves and pliers to get it on the first couple times.

There's a system that I think would work perfectly in this application. No tools required.

I Pm'ed Nick, he's going to look into it.

I must use mine differently than some. My Armageddon gear cover has work without a hiccup since something like 2010 or thereabouts. I don’t remover the cover except for when I’m cleaning it every once in a while. It never slips, the ‘shoelaces’ hold it snug, and it keeps the can mirage away.

It’s true that they’ve gotten way pricey, imo, so maybe that’s the reason so many are looking for different.

There has to be a better attachment system for these products then simple laces or buckles.
I use the discontinued precision rifle version of the Modtac carbon fiber suppressor shield. Yes, you need a darn allen key to mount/dismount it. I should look into replacing it with low profile thumbscrew.

Here it is on my rifle. The tiny allen screw is on the bottom. You can’t remove the suppressor with it attached as it eventually slips and scratches the can. The slip is the problem for me, as the can is always hidden by the cover anyway.

Their new version is interesting but I don’t really want to clamp anything to the barrel’s end as I’ve read that it doesn’t take much pressure to affect the bore, which is surprising.

This new system takes a quarter-turn or so to remove the shield. Of course, the adaptor thing is always on the barrel, but I use cans 100% of the time.

Their products are pretty spendy.

Their units for ARs look pretty darn cool but only work if your handguard comes close to the suppressor.

What attracts me to the Can Chap is one can attach/remove the cover+can in one motion. I always take off the suppressor when storing the rifle as 1) some areas of my safe don’t have the vertical necessary for some can/rifle combos, and 2) carbon debris can fall back into the barrel when the rifle is upright.

I used to poo-poo that last point until it happened to me. Holy shit I had 1-2mm gdamn chunks of carbon gravel in my chamber one day. Time to clean the fucking suppressor!!!

Taking the can off after each range trip at least allows me to inspect the muzzle. That’s where I first saw some carbon chunks a-lounging.

Anyway, @lash does the Armageddon cover have enough internal grip to allow you to spin off the can while it is attached?

That's an interesting concept, but I don't like clamping things to the barrel. Not on a precision rifle.

That AT is gorgeous. How do you find the mirage mitigation with the Modtac?

I considered one before, but per modtac, a dominus is too girthy for the standard cover.

Yup. Still, he could try to get a replacement. It would not hurt to try. It's his skin in the game. They might do it if he tells them he got burned by it. Maybe they mean some gap smaller than 1/4"?
Why? Why should he get a free replacement? Why should this small company have to eat the cost and provide him a replacement when they clearly have it listed on their site that there can/will be a small gap? Do you see it listed anywhere on their site claiming "Guaranteed not to burn your little paw"?

Based on your other threads and responses, please dont trouble yourself actually replying to me. We will all be thankful.

Thx man!

Mirage mitigation is on par or better than the Precision Underground covers I own. Since it’s an open design, maybe a breeze helps cool the can faster plus allows heat to blow laterally off a little? Probably more the former than the latter.

And fyi Modtac’s coming out this month or early next with a PRSS that fits the fatties, so phat TBACs will soon be in play.

It’s a free tuner!
I immediately thought of the tuner bros when I first saw the design. “I’ll move the shield .000001” backwards each shot with each powder charge. One shot each. One week between shots.”

C'mon man, why you being so toxic?

Why should he? Because the company *wants* to give him one. I can easily think of three reasons in as many seconds that they would want to honor his request, and none of them involve lawsuits. Just good will. He won't know unless he asks.

Agreed! I'm running some on a sign762SRD and an OCM5. Having demolished several other suppressor covers, I'm enjoying these ones. I really like the burn proof gear but they are a pain to take off.

You going to send it back requesting it be re-made to "correct" dimensions? Because of the gap.
Didn't realize I'd stirred up a bit of controversy as I didn't see the replies after my initial post. So the company reached out to me, I didn't reach out to them. I was perfectly happy with the gap and understanding it was there but they admitted they like to get it a bit closer than that and offered to send a replacement. I did send photos in at their request. The gap was along the entire length of the suppressor, not at the ends.

New one came in and it was perfect. I'll be buying more and will test it with an inner liner for hard(er) use.

What a great company. I'm glad for you. Perfect.
