7 PRC market penetration

It's been some time since the 7 PRC was released, and I get that although a lot of guys who are into getting the newest thing have tried it, I've never seen one in the wild. I don't see very many factory options for it, and many handloading component manufacturers haven't published data for it.

Is there any way to guage how it's doing? Will the 7 PRC stick around? Is it even close to being on the path to being as popular as the 6.5 PRC?

Reading up on this, it seems as if I might be perceiving the 7 PRC as less popular than it is, because it has not yet been approved be the European CIP, which has kept European manufacturers from adopting it. (I'm of course writing from Europe.)

You said “penetration” huh, huh, huh . . .

In all seriousness, if anything is tamping down the 7 PRC craze here in the states, it’s the lack of reloading components, particularly primers, for the non-factory sorts. Doesn’t help that it’s an election year and the world is on fire with two wars.

What about a comparison to the 28 Nosler? All of my favorite American podcasts were praising the 28 Nosler for a while. Will the 7 PRC and the 28 Nosler be equally popular in five years?

7 PRC will, and probably already has, become more popular than 28 Nosler.

I just got 3 complete rifle orders in the last month, but have heard some people experiencing accuracy issues. Not sure if it was the quality of the rifle or the cartridge itself as I have no personal experience yet. I just got my JGS reamer recently. Is anyone else experiencing these allegations of poor accuracy? It's difficult to tell these days with so many factory "precision" rifles in the wild that shoot like sh!t.

You left out a factor…The person shooting it. Some people just plain old can’t shoot a gun. And some people get scared and flinch when they jump up to a magnum. And some people hate on, or repeat false info because they were told some fuddlore by a high school dropout retard at the Cabelas gun counter, that only has 1 gun, and thinks his 6.5 Creed is God’s cartridge. 🙄 There’s a lot more factors than just the rifle or cartridge.

I just did one for a customer. I got him a case of Hornady precision hunter ammo to go with it. The ammo seems to be performing like the rest of that ammo line, which is to say good accuracy, and average(not great) velocity spreads. Well sub MOA in 8.5 lb (complete) rifle.

Any specific ammo? We've found Hornady Precision Hunter to be pretty inconsistent as far as precision from rifle to rifle. Hornady ELDM on the other hand, has been very consistent.

As far as loading your own ammo, haven't had any issues with quality components.

Can people buy 7PRC factory guns and not have the dreaded "PRC clickers"? Has that problem been remedied across the board yet? I read where Wheeler came out with his reamer design to prevent this...

That's a good question. Manson by default adds diameter to the base of the case for all PRC reamers without customer requesting it.

Not sure about other reamer makers and/or rifle manufacturers.

The "good" news is, you can just take a reamer with the larger base and turn it by hand in the chamber. Takes all of about 5min and it will cut out the amount needed to get rid of the clicker issue.

Ok, good to know. I have a 7mm Benchmark MTU barrel coming "some damned unknown day" and thought about 7PRC chambering.

Im basing this on the amount of "Precision" factory rifles that I'm testing for customers and re-barreling. Def not taking everyone's word without verifying they shoot like sh!t first. And there's no denying that all these factory precision rifle company's that start with the letters like C, F, B, and P are just some examples. Its a gamble to get one that really shoots sub moa, and not just shooting a sub moa group every once in awhile. I have one customer that runs a ridiculously successful Blacktail hunting ranch that all these company's just give him rifles for free in hopes that his ridiculously rich customers will use them. He has high accuracy expectations and I end up re-barreling most of them.

These were second hand claims that I couldn't verify so I cant answer your question. And funny you should mention inconsistencies in EldX hunter ammo as I came across a box o 300PRC today with half the rounds out of spec!

Having a 7PRC built now with Short action customs 22” proof (8tw) with a Manners PH stock and origin action. Also this Trigger, (Trigger Tech Special Flat with Black)
Should I look at any other triggers, this is the one they offered
Gonna be a few months , I don’t reload so I wanna load up on factory ammo now. I got 7 boxes of the 175 and I guess I’ll get some 180’s…. Definitely going to be ammo shortages within 6 months I would imagine.

Any other tips or track during the build would be greatly appreciated, since they are still waiting for the action to come in so nothing really started yet.

Are you saying you yourself are testing rifles from 4 or 5 makers and they all shoot sub moa once in awhile?

I think I would looks elsewhere than the cartridge itself. I don't think I've ever shot over a sub moa group with mine, even during load workup.

Based on the factory ammo specs I’m guessing the 7prc has slightly less perceived recoil vs the 28 Nosler all else being equal…but still plenty of downrange energy to kill an elk

I'm still shooting 7 Rem Mag, and don't anticipate switching any time soon. Slightly more case capacity, really good ADG brass, and tons of factory ammo. The kids can have the PRC.
