I don't know what tuner he's using....but I was testing that Manzella barrels you just got from me with a Cortina V2 Tuner with 1/2-28 threads adapter. I really like them. No set screws and the setting stays in place.

I got out twice in a week, first time that’s happened in FOREVER. 50 yard groups were good and I convinced the RO to let me shoot it at the 100 yard line too (our range doesn’t want 22lr skipping before the backstop so they generally don’t allow 22lr on the 100/200 yard range)

I dialed up 6.75 MOA and gave it just a bit of wind for the slight breeze and first shot landed just right of center. Next shot went just left of center before the final 3 pushed right again for a group just under an inch. I fired 3 more 5 shot groups and then finished with a 10 shot group. An average group size of under 1” at 100 yards with SK Match had me happy as can be. Watching thru the scope as those bullets come down into the target at 100 yards is kid level fun.

Does anyone have an ETA on action wrenches or know of one in stock? Got a care package from Manzella last week and would like to start using it.

What kind of barrel vise do you use?

SAC Modular Barrel Vice - Full Kit. I'm sure their cheaper Bravo barrel vice kit will work just fine as well.

I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles. If I missed something, I'm sorry for that, but my inbox is empty and I haven't been forwarded any voicemails for firearms related issues.

We're available by phone M-Th from 7a - 4p CT and Friday's from 7a - 11a CT. Emails are generally answered within one business day unless I'm out.

Thank you - Ray

Just got off phone with Ray at Zermatt, and talked to him about how the rim x is headspaced and specs also told him that Jelrod had helped fix the problem. As for email Ray said he replied back to my email and have no reason to not believe him,So now need to find where that email went.Sorry for being somewhat mad but I did not see a reply , and am sorry for my anger. But I hope all is better and now my rim x runs like it was intended to. I'm using a Vortex Gen 3 6-36.
I have a 40 moa rail and 10 moa spuhr mount. I’m getting 30.3 mils out of my gen 3 razor. A 40 moa rail isn’t a bad start imo, you’ll get roughly around 27 mils from your razor gen 3…. If your trying to shoot over 400 yards

Just put an order in. What tools/wrenches am I looking at for installation? (my first precision build other than slapping a chasis on)

You need a barrel vice, action wrench and torque wrench and a can of grease to put on the barrel threads before installing on the action. I torque all my RimX barrels to 50ft lbs.

FYI, 1 can of grease will last you a lifetime.. I use Aeroshell 33 but really just dont put it on dry. Use some grease, anti-seize, etc... For action wrench, I use my Zermatt action wrench. For a barrel vice, you can go cheap and will work just fine getting a Viper Barrel vice or you can get the Short Action Customs Bravo or more expensive Ultimate Kit.

After wearing out a couple of Viper-style bbl vises (mostly due to using them while trying to remove Rem 700 & Howa 1500 factory bbls, which these vises were never designed to do), I bought the Short Action Customs Ultimate vise set, and have been very pleased with it. But the Viper would be totally sufficient for switch-bbl use, where the user won't be dealing with extremely tightly torqued factory barrels. As padom can testify - having shot with a large number of barrels on his Rim-X action, there's no need to go crazy with torque when switching barrels on a Rim-X (or any other 22RF action), and 50 ft/lbs is plenty snug enough.

I bought a small 1lb tub of moly-fortified automotive chassis grease more than 20yrs ago to use on barrel threads & other applications, and there's at least half of it left. If that's not hi-tech enough for you, Brownells used to sell a moly grease that they advertised as 'barrel assembly paste'also being good for use on interchangeable shotgun choke tubes. It comes in a small plastic 1-1/2oz tube. I bought some at an estate sale, and have used it, but the moly-fortified chassis grease works just as well, and can be picked up at any auto parts supply store. I've also bought NECO MolySlide lube, which would certainly work on bbl threads, but I reserve mine for use on bolt lugs & cocking ramps.

I said I was done RimX testing but I have one more test coming up. Hahaha.. A battle of the cut rifled straights. Ive had a few GM straights and they hammered.

I have a 1.2" ACE cut rifled straight coming that will be taper lapped to finish at 22" and I just received my Krieger 1.2" straight. Going to put these 2 barrels head to head and see how they compare. Ive heard nothing but excellent things from ACE and great people to deal with. Cant wait to see how these 2 compare.

I got a Manzella Precision Green Mountain barrel a while ago and didn’t really shoot it much because I was using another barrel. Decided to screw it on for an upcoming match and use a random lot of Lapua Long Range I picked up. Hot damn it hammers. This “budget” barrel shoots just as good as the Krieger I have been using. Attached are the first 5 groups after shooting about 25 foulers. The first two groups shot low and then I adjusted it. The next 3 are with it zeroed. I promise you these are not cherry picked. I have also attached the chrono numbers on them. I’m a happy camper.

Great shooting. It's really hard to beat these GM barrels. They just hammer.

Great shooting... What chamber did you use?

It’s not a widely known chamber outside of the forum but I like it. I have two barrels with the Eachus and they just flat out hammer with the right ammo. It’ll be my go-to from now on.
I shot a small club match yesterday and managed to get 3rd place. Wasn’t packed with people but the stages were challenging nonetheless. Zero issues with the RimX or the barrel.

Im working on getting my chamber to more smiths so its more available.

Continuing where padom left off, I just ordered a 1.25” blank from Preferred Barrel Blanks. I don’t think anyone in here has messed with one yet. I could be wrong. I opted for the hand lapping option. It’s 16 twist, 6 groove. When the time is right it’s going to head to Manzella. Doing a 24” finish for shits and giggles. This will be barrel #5 for the RimX.

What profile and length is that barrel?

Straight 1.20” at 22”.
How does that balance, seems like the barrel would be pretty heavy. I have the heavy barrel Begara B14R which has their 20" MTU profile and it seems to balance pretty well on barricades. I am in the process of ordering a barrel for the RimX and could do with any advice from someone who already has one

I think that's going to greatly depend on your setup. Specifically what Chassis/Stock you will be using and what optic. Also, do you have a target weight for the rifle or weight you'd like to stay under? The 1.20 barrels are quite heavy but great for balance in a lot of the larger chassis/stocks (Manners TCS, MDT ACC, MPA Matrix Pro, etc). 24 inch 1.2 barrels are around 7.5 lbs and the action and bolt will weight around 1.5 lbs.

If you're using a lighter weight chassis like an MPA Hybrid or KRG Bravo for example, you might not need that much weight for balance.

It balances nicely but obviously as mentioned already going to depend on the stock/chassis you will be using and your overall target weight. 20#+ balanced rifles aren’t for everyone.
Don’t get too caught up on profiles either thinking you need a 1.20-1.25” straight contour.

Can I ask you what is different about your chamber. I'm on the verge of ordering a barrel and any info would be appreciated. I currently shoot Eley ammo which doesn't appear to be your favorite so I'm not sure if your chamber affects that? I shoot ELey as it's available and shoots great in my CZ457.
Looking to put the barrel into my MDT Oryx chassis and use it for NRL. Have been using a CZ in XRS chassis with Lilja barrel but difficult to really balance it. My Bergara in the Oryx chassis has the 20" MTU profile and it will balance perfectly on a tank trap tip, which is a good test.

I went with a straight taper 25" barrel. With a MDT ACC folder chassis and vortex razor G3 on the back it balances about 2" in front of the mag well. Before I had a 20" MTU taper so instead of buying a bunch of expensive weights just got a new barrel

IIRC, usually the issues with Eley are around headspacing (Eley has a smaller head space and Lapua/SK) and the flat nose bullets. So if your headspacing is good the chamber itself shouldn't have issues.

I'm kind of shocked the Oryx balances for you. I don't know the weight on the Bergara Heavy Barrel, but my 10/22 (20 inch 0.900 bull barrel and a 30oz scope) in the Oryx is butt heavy by about 2 lbs. Maybe its the inletting for the 10/22 that makes the Oryx so butt heavy, but I haven't been impressed. I have their ACC Premier for a R700 223 trainer that's fantastic though. If your B14R balances fine in the Oryx though I can't imagine you'd have issues with the RimX.

I'd still plan ahead though. If you're already stepping up into RimX territory it probably won't be long until you upgrade the Chassis/Stock. I'd look at the RimX, Vudoo, and B14R threads more for examples of what people are getting to balance out. Take that into consideration for any future setups you might run and go a similar route. Adding a bit of weight to the butt to balance is usually easier than the forend in my experience.

OK, advice sought. Ordering Gm barrel from Keystone for sure. 2 decisions
1.2 barrel should be 22" or 24"???
Keystone or Padom chamber.

Rifle will be for NRL22 mainly.

Length is what you want it to be as far as weight and balance. One won’t outshoot the other. Longer barrels don’t guarantee better numbers. I’m a fan of the Eachus (padom) chamber as it has been really good to me.

I had Keystone profile a couple of the GM 27" straight bbls I bought direct from GM a few years ago, Then had Mike Manzella cut the tenon & chamber one of them with padom's Eachus reamer. That bbl shoots better than any other bbl I've done for my Rim-X, including a Bartlein that I chambered with an EPS reamer, and the other GM that I chambered with a Win 52D reamer.
