Firs long action build 7PRC or 300PRC? among other questions.

I have been shooting SA for a few years now and thinking about getting a LA build going. My type of shooting is bench, prone, tripod, and every once in a while I’ll do a lil positional shooting but I do not compete nor do I intend to. What I want is to reach out to longer distances, the range I go to has targets all the way out to 1530 yards and there’s talks of a mile target.

From what I seen so far components and factory ammo are available for both calibers, seems like my biggest issue would be LRMP availability. It’s is important to me that whatever action I go with has off the shelf pre-fit support, so far it seems like the Impact LA is the best fit with proof pre-fits available from places like Altus, front range, and evolved ballistics in those chambers. Not opposed to buying a BA either. An AI AXSR crossed my mind but for that amount of money I can build a quality rifle with optic included.

So what do you guys think? Any recommendations on components or distributors are welcome. What have been your experiences shooting these cartridges at distance?

At the 1500 to 1 mile range, the 7mm PRC would be excellent. I shoot mine on an unknown distance range out to a mile and it's probably the most fun I've had with a bolt gun to date. If you think you might go beyond the mile, the 300 PRC will serve you better. There will be a significant difference in the recoil between the 7 and the 300 if that is a concern.

Actions? Take your pick. SPR (bugholes.com), Blue Mountain Precision, TS Customs, and about a dozen others will be able to spin you a prefit for almost any of the custom actions out there. If you go here and look at the actions drop-down that's a pretty good representation of the actions that can take prefits:

Personally, in long actions I like the Lone Peak, Zeus, and Defiance.

Thank you my SA is a Zeus and I have own defiance before and really liked it.

I understand pre fits can be spun up basically for anything but am an impatient person so that’s why am looking at off the shelf support on those specific calibers.

Ok gotcha, off the shelf as in available right now. That's a tough one. 🤣

Yea lol. I mean I have looked around and they are out there. I would like to have one and get started I can have one spun up as a back up and not worry about the weight.

What is the life expectancy on these barrels for 300 or 700 prc

I have a defiance 300 PRC w 24” straight taper barrel in MPA BA comp chassis. I don’t like heavy recoil and this doesn’t.

Since ballistics are comparable to a 300 winmag I expected recoil also to be comparable. Not so.

I always shoot suppressed and the recoil of this rifle reminds me of my old savage 110 LR Hunter in 308win.

Frank and others suggest the 300prc is a “push” vs the “snap” of a 300winmag. I have to agree. It’s pleasant to shoot.

And with the straight taper barrel I have yet to get a hot barrel.

The main reason I would choose the 300prc over 7prc, given that recoil is so mild, is the benefit of heavier bullet on spotting impacts. There’s several threads on the hide covering the benefits of 30+ caliber projectiles past a mile.

I'd bet they will. You have Peterson, Nosler and ADG right now. Lapua will show up at some point.

Surprised Alpha hast jumped on it.
They make zero long action based calibers so not surprising.

Vote for 300prc. The recoil is more but the signature from a 210+ is valuable for long range shooting.

So what’s wrong with hornady brass? I have never used it. Do you just get less out of it or do you see inconsistency on your loads? I run Lapua and alpha for my SA

Hornady is trash brass. Case necks split and super inconsistent thickness. Just don’t do it.

This will definitely sit on a foundation G2. Looking at BM and not sure what is best for this caliber as far as length win mag or CIP+ or does it matter? Would it hurt to go CIP+ and have the extra room?

Cip for 300. Win mag for 7 prc.

I don’t have first hand experience with feeding a non cip through cip but I suspect it would be fine.

Ok, Terminus LA purchased and foundation G2 as well. Just need bottom metal. Need to verify that CIP+ won't be an issue with the 7 PRC. Am looking at CIP+ in case I decide to run 300 PRC in the future.

Excellent choice for action. How long did Joel say the wait is?

If you go 7 prc you’re always going to want a 300. If you go 300 you’re never going to want to go down. I strongly recommend the 300 over the 7.

I feed one of my 7prc through Hawkins CIP+ and accurate mag 3.850. It is a mausingfield so it’s control round feeding so I don’t know if that makes any difference, but it does feed perfectly. The other ones use Hawkins hunter metal and mags and they feed good as well

Adg over Peterson. But the 300 has laoua which is even better.
