ARC Coup de Grace Builds

Well was hoping someone would say the mdt 12 round br mags worked well.
You could ask MPA to set it up to run AICS instead of AW. Would need the tab that ships with action installed in the chassis. That way you could run the MDT BR or whatever AICS.

CDG LA 20Moa, currently a .22” 223 Rem but also have a 24” 300WM barrel for it. Ultradyne UD7 chassis with XLR TR-2 buttstock. Arken EP5 5-25

Anybody opened up a 3.715” AICS magwell for the 3.850” CIP AICS mags? That’s the only real change I want to make and it sounds as simple as filing 0.135” off the front edge of the magwell?

I think it comes set up to run Aics mags. It ships with an AI mag.

I have some accurate mags that they said should run but I was referring to the mdt mag because they said it wouldn’t work with 3 lug receivers. But I’ve heard some people say it will.

Works fine for me even with the extension.

Not to worry, Boeing already did the bolt check

Have you jammed your magazine into a barricade?
Went out to "Rifles Only" and had a great time, jammed it into a few barricades and other shit a few times, no problem. At this point, I'm more into drawing blood than, arguing with keyboard experts, playing weekend wanna-be-sniper and pinging steel.

You do you.

I may do a larger write up on this, but here is what I did to make a 12rn AW mag. I shoot PRS "weekend warrior" and used the the CDG for most of the season last year. I lost out on lot of points because I could only load 10 rounds. With the factory follower and running 6CM, I could load 11 rounds and I was pretty fast on a single load from the quiver, so I never put too much thought into modifying a AW. Then when I switched to 6BRA and the HRD mag kit, I could only load 10 rounds and then a shot a lot of matches with 12 round stages so I decided to look into a mod. I read the posts by 375Max in which he made his own, with a whole lot of machining and welding work. I do not have that type of machinery or his knowledge, but I do have a Dremel.

All I wanted was to fit 12 rounds, not more. I believe 375Max can run 14 with his design. I purchased the Area419 ACIS mag extension, which slides right onto the bottom of the AW mag with no modifications. I took the follower, traced it on the bottom of the AW mag, took the Dremel and cut the plate out so the spring would rest on the mag extension, but the follower would not pass the bottom of the mag. The spring in the HRD kit is longer then the factory spring and I think that helps the mag run properly. Once I put everything together, I loaded up 12 rounds. The 12 round, there is very little movement, but there is a little, enough to operate. It was cycling fine, but then I thought about the waisted space in the mag extension. I ended up placing a 1/2" piece of white plastic in the bottom of the mag extension which provided a little more tension with the follower. I also added a brass nut on the Allen head bolt that keeps the mag extension from sliding off. The mag ext could move because of the bevel on the bottom of the AW. I would like to switch the nut to a oring.

I did this mod late last year, but wanted to test it before writing anything up. I finally shot a match with it a couple weekends ago and it worked flawlessly. Probably shot 6 stages with it, in terrible weather with zero issues. That also goes for the CDG action. I have probly shot 10 matches with this action and I absolutely love it. As far as a competition action I can not find any real faults with it. The only thing that I do not like is that I can not use my MPA brass catcher due to control feed design. Depending on how hard you run the bolt, the brass will eject at different angles and cause a malfunction.

Why not use the Altus extension? It's half as tall as the A419.

Just curious is all. I used them for mine, but cut the entire bottom off and welded new "wings" on the sides. Not a lot of fun, that's for sure.

I just ordered an Altus mag extension and going to try and use a hybrid of what you did and what @ThisGuy did.

Did you reuse the regular AW spring?

No, the HRD 6BRA kit has a new follower and spring, it is almost an inch longer, maybe an extra coil, I forgot to take an extra pic while it was apart.
I’m sorry, I meant that question for @kindabitey since he used the shorter Altus extension.

I did catch what you used. It was a nice write up. 👍🏻

Yes. I stretched it just a little, but worked fine without doing it.

So it seems as though the easy answer is to get fast with mag changes.
Pretty much. I think all together it takes me about 90 min. to do one, which is why I'm only doing them for a select few. I don't need another job
that doesn't pay anything. I already have one of those.
But for you guys running a BR based cartridge, there should be an answer coming from a reputable source in the next few weeks.

Just finished my CDG build - going down from a handful of centerfire rifles to one (just had a kid, budget and time constraints) so I tried to build a good do-all rifle. I originally was going to build a full out XM3 clone but decided to make a few technological upgrades along the way while keeping the “look”.

CDG SA
McMillan A1-3 Marsh camo
Bartlein carbon M40 18” 6.5 Creedmoor
Forward controls design long Keymod FH
LRI clone front rail
TT diamond
AW mags

Excited to see if she shoots as good as she looks!

Is anyone using the timney elite hunter trigger without any issues? I tried installing mine today and the hanger holes and trigger holes don't match up. Seems like the hanger is resting on the shelf on the side of the trigger housing so it's unable to go low enough to line up.

Hanger needs to be modified for the trigger.

I'm assuming just need some 300 plus grit sandpaper on a flat surface and just take off some of the hanger till it fits?
I mangled mine with a rotary tool when fitting my Timney, needed to clear the safety lever mechanism more than anything.

Finally got my "budget" build put together:

CDG SA
Carbon Six bull contour 22" 6.5 CM
Tract Toric 4.5-30x56
Seekins 1.0" rings
Adjustable Grayboe Renegade with Grayboe hunter bottom metal
Tier One Atac bipod
TriggerTech special two stage

Had to file the mag catch down some to get AWs to fit, but no problem after that. Also had to relieve the stock some in front of the rear action pillars to clear the trigger hanger, similar to what others have had to do for other stocks. I'm hoping to shoot her soon.. after that going to get some cerakote.

Did anyone else have issues with a gritty feel during extraction? Happy with how the rifle shot but certain rounds (FGMM 140 / Hornady 147) felt like they really dragged coming out.

A little bit of dremel work and drill and use a counter sunk hex head on the aluminum chassis to trigger guard I also used a shorter m5 set screw at the front of the trigger hanger so it inset so it clears said counter sunk screw. I did think about just using set screws on each side of the forward part of the trigger guard underneath the plastic but this worked well and probably sturdier in the long run

When I worked on mine, I had to open a bit in the front of the trigger hanger, and also chamfer the hole to use a different screw for the trigger guard. I also needed to open the safety selector a touch for the TT safety to clear.

Used some alumablack to darken it back when done.

Just finished mine, barrel spun up by Lane Shelley at Billet Precision.
CDG action
MPA Matrix Pro chassis
Krieger 1.25" truck axle, 28"
ACE brake
TT Diamond
Razor G3 6x36
ARC MBRACE

Break in and load work this week. Only thing I'm unsure of is feeding, mine doesn't have the tab and I'm running 12rd MDT 6br mags. It feeds nice in the shop, curios to see how it runs under time and hard at a match.

Well, got it to the range today for the first time, I think it has potential. I had 7 rounds of various range brass that I found to get started with. I shot 3 rounds to get a rough zero. I then shot the last 4 into a group and it came in at .22MOA

I then moved to the loads I have for my other 6br and shot a 5 round group, it's .23MOA

I then shot an 11rd group, here's the results with numbers, .48MOA!!!

Once I get about 100rd down it I'll do due diligence and a complete load workup but this thing is going to be a hammer!

I am an ELR shooter and don't do PRS, NRL, or hunting. CDG action in MDT ESS Chassis, 3.715" Long Action. 30" bull barrel 7 PRC. No one told me I'd need a shorter mag latch but after much Googling I figured out why the mags wouldn't fully insert. American Rifle Company couldn't help me figure it out (you'd think they'd know about this issue) and MDT was happy to send me a mag latch that turned out to be about 0.060" shorter and now it works great. Using Accurate Mag 300 RUM magazine for round feeding.
