Billards players, is this room layout reasonable for a table?

Figured we might have some billards players on the Hide. I'm buying a new house with a finished basement and I'd like to put a table in the basement. The basement recreation room is 33'x17' and the table is an 8'. Table would be basically centered in the room.

I'd also like to put a TV on the far/left wall and a couch or love seat. I figure if needed, I could move the couch a bit closer to the wall when the table is in use, but ideally I'd like people to be able to sit and watch TV while someone else is playing.

Based on the floor plan and my shitty dry-erase board sketch, is this a viable plan?

I was recommended minimum 4' from any wall.

We have an 8' Olhausen centered in a room thats 18x23.
 
Make sure that you have enough room for accessories

I just went and measured ours. When we put it in, we knew our room would be tight, and there are a couple spots where you have to compromise your angle slightly. If you have a full five feet from the edge of the table, you are good. This also includes a couch. Your cue will clear a low couch, but your rear foot will not, if you are tall like me. It will alter your stance, which alters your aim and shot. The post above is spot on also, the Ms will want to decorate and put stuff there, but you need to keep that minimum of five feet of clearance. This distance also includes pictures hanging on the wall (frame them with a plexiglass front and not glass. Don’t ask me how I know). If you want seats for players or spectators, barstools work great, if you need to move one that’s in the way, it’s is no big deal. Good luck! I’m a little envious right now. Our table is covered with a 4000 piece jigsaw puzzle, and I can’t shoot!

Don't tell me that's a Brunswick Avalon II in cherry??

I should have room for accessories, I hope. I'm thinking about putting a dart board on the far back wall by the window, and then a bar, table and a few lounge chairs in the area by the wall on the right side.

I'll have billard chairs against the near wall, to the right of the French doors to the utility room. Maybe a table between them.

If I put the couch 5' from the table, that still gives me roughly 7.5' to the TV, which should be good enough for a viewing area. It's meant to be more of a bar / club area, so it's not the primary TV viewing space. Sounds like it's going to work out well!

I've solved the Mrs issue, she won't be putting anything in the basement. Mainly because I'm still rocking bachelor life 😂

We did a Granboard. Its electronic and bluetooth to your phone to control it. They have online play, tournaments, etc... Pretty killer setup. My backer is just cheap t&g pine from homedepot with like 30 layers of clear on it.

Wait. Bluetooth dart board, which has a laser line on the ground, and scoring remotely against other competitors ?

Im gonna need info on this. (Sorry to hihack the billards thread)

the laser is a $20 deal from amazon.

Granboard has a camera setup if you are going to get serious. I have 2 or 3 friends with them and we throw against each other and have fun. Your phone camera will work, but I understand the tournaments organized online require the legit camera, but I think its cheap.

Yea but you have to play with those weenie little plastic darts instead of some nice accudarts or something really nice like handmade real feather fletched british tournament darts.....with actual sharp steel points.

Plastic darts?

I have a set of like 90 dollar tungsten barrel darts, dont know the brand. They are pretty heavy.

And i've got really nice shafts and flights.

Soft tip darts have come a long way. You should research them before you call them "weenie little plastic darts"...
 
It's taking a lot longer than I thought to get settled in and set up, but here's a couple teasers of the new basement and centerpiece. Table is a Brunswick Avalon II 8' in cherry, claw feet, leather drop pockets.

That’s my freaking table with different felt! This is total BS! They told me it was a one of a kind, no other like it in the entire world! Lol. In all seriousness, your room looks like it’s going to come out fantastic. I don’t know all your plans, but a dimmer switch for the overhead lights, and a hung light over the pool table is classic. We also have a dimmer on the hung light, so you can set everything just like you want it. You also don’t have to spend a ton on a hung light from a billiards store. Lowe’s or HD has lights that are hung that are affordable.
 
You may want to go check it's still there ;) Thanks, I've got high hopes for the room! The lights are sectionally controlled by 4 switches, each with dimmer. The phone picture doesn't quite do it justice but the lighting is really bright and even. Not sure if I'll do the overhead light, even though that's like a bar room staple.

My current plans are to put a 55" TV on the far wall and a sectional couch in front of it. There's just a touch over 12' from the wall to table, so I should be able to maintain 5' shooting lane and get 7' to 7.5' viewing distance, which apparently is correct for a 55" TV. But if I have to go to a 4' shooting lane, I think that's OK, as the cue would/should clear a couch.

On the left side of the room, to the left of the French doors, I'm planning for 2 billards chairs and a bar top table.

On the near side where the photo was taken, there about 15' from the table, and I want to do a bar & lounge area over there. Not sure if I'll do a traditional bar or a bar cart or a wall-mount liquor cabinet, but it will be something like that, a couple comfortable chairs and a table.

To the right of the bar area I'm thinking of doing a dartboard setup against the wall. So you could grab a drink, sit at the lounge, throw some darts, grab another drink...

Kind of hard to visualize but maybe I can put some better pics up. Or maybe I'll get something else done first :p

Very nice room and a very nice table as well. Our 8ft table is centered in a 19’8” x 13’3” room. It is playable, but barely.
 
Yup, a nice 9 footer with some fast felt and shimmed pockets. Guaranteed to either make you a better player, or make you wanna give up 😆
