Vista (Revelyst) announces layoffs, including Bushnell

According to the PR it's being consolidated to a different location, but it sounds like most everyone running things is out of a job, so I don't know how much really got consolidated or what the hell will happen now.
Consolidations very often mean a large duplication of staff functions which means big layoffs.

Got food poisoning, bad. Damn near killed me; spent 4 days in hospital intensive care.

Bill $28.000.

Demanded explanation of every penny.

Saw something on there to the effect of "daily prophylactic" @ 100 dollars per day total $400.00.

Nobody will tell me what this charge is for so I get 'em on the phone and demand they explain what this is for.

Answer----------$100.00 per day for having a box of Kleenex in my room.

She took it off my bill.

I'm middle class and proud of it, and now retired, $400.00 is a lot of groceries and gas.

I don't have a problem paying the deductable on $27,600 to the folks who got me back on my feet, but that doesn't excuse BS.
I got food poisoning last summer and received a bill for $28,000 for my 3 hour hospital stay.

I hate to hear that, I feel your pain.

Took food poisoning too lightly, waited too long B4 thinking I needed to go to the hospital while intense non-stop diarrhea/dehydration dropped my BP to 60/50 so I couldn't stand up to get to my phone.

It happened so quick.

Had to crawl on all fours to get to my phone to call my wife.

Won't do that again.

God bless the nurses that took care of me.

Daggum, my HDMR and DMR3 better not shit the bed then! If this means warranty will go away too...

I doubt the warranty is going away. The company isn't being shut down or anything, just a lot of folks being laid off or having to relocate. Even if Revelyst decides to get rid of Bushnell, someone's going to buy them.

Counter-argument...is Leupold Mk 4 series...that just (re)launched.
The 2.5-10 is only 21.5oz, 12.5" and a MAP of $1200.
If there was a 3-12 with those same specs and the G2H reticle then hell yeah it'd sell.

The point I've tried to make in all the MPVO threads is that it seems like everyone has their own opinion of what a perfect MPVO/medium range scope should look like and is unwilling to compromise on it becasue the 3-15/18 and 1-8/10 scopes are so damn good now.

The 3-12 sells on the used market because there is far more demand than supply, but the demand for those specs in a new scope cannot be there other wise Bushnell and/or GAP would have relaunched it.

Heard about this back late last year, Vista also sold off all it's ammo companies (Federal, CCI, Rem, Speer) to a Czek group that owns Fiocchi, and just bought Perazzi, and stated they were going to be separating from all their shooting sports companies.

Not too surprising, a TON of companies, for whatever reason (if not several) economy, shareholders, exec greed, etc. etc. are reducing workforce, or workforce expenses (raises, bonuses, benefits, etc.) even those seemingly doing well financially. Employees at most companies these days are seen as an expense to be managed/minimized. It seems like across the board companies are preparing for an economic downturn even if their balance sheet gains look significantly better than any of their employees compensation increases do.

My guess is most of these big companies saw record net profit margins when they could increase prices rampantly blame free when inflation was out of control. Tons of reports on big companies that increased prices WAY more than their costs increased. Now that inflation has been reigned back in, and consumers have tightened their belts a bit, the gravy train has less gravy so companies are trying to find any way they can to make up for it.

Rare is the publicly held or private equity company that does not expect/demand that their/your future performance goals exceed the previous year’s earnings. Executive bonuses hinge on same, and all else is secondary to those expectations, whether employee pay/benefits/satisfaction, financial behaviors, inventory controls, etc, etc. Retired from that race going on 5 years ago, and while I recognize shareholder benefit, couldn’t possible be happier it’s all behind me.
All that said, very glad to see Bushnell will survive, and my stack of LRTS, LRHS, DMR2 Pro and DMR3’s are doing exactly what I want from them. Very interested to see what the future portends.

Well I hope the dude who is one here keeps his job. He was the only CS person there who was a) professional and b) honest. They can shit can the other 3 I talked too.

Resurrecting an old thread.
My old .22 scope died, called Bushnell and was asking for an RMA number, the person answering the phone sounded quite dejected, he just told me to return it with my personal information and write LAB as there was hardly anyone left.
I hope they come back. My first scope was a Bushnell, I remember using a Bushnell microscope in school and later on in industry.

I don't understand this.

Buy something else from someone else.

Studebaker used to make cars. Now nobody knows who they were or cares.

Surprised that Stone Glacier is owned by them too. Yuk.

Vista/Revelyst bought Simms ?
Both local companies here. I remember when Stone Glacier started, they were in a little space next to a gym. They are generally good guys, some of them here have gotten heavily involved in the local shooting scene. Unfortunately, they are really big social media/instagram type dudes and have undoubtedly contributed to many a competition filling up really fast with their continuous self promotion. That is just the name of the game these days and probably contributed to their rapid growth in the backpack/outdoor space.

It's tough to fault the owners for "selling out" I am sure they got offered a shit load of money that was hard to turn down. I won't judge since I have never been in their position. I am sure there is a "it can't happen to me" attitude with some of the employees of these companies. ut rest assured, when you are run by investors with a board of directors you are probably never safe.

Looks to me like they are putting lipstick on the balance sheets prior to spinning these companies off.

It’ll be interesting to see who’s right here: George, who says Bushy and their associated Elite optics aren’t going anywhere, or Doug, who says the rumor mill suggests only a “golf” division will remain.

I’ll just say that if Bushnell folds, that’s gonna suck. I run a lot of their optics, though mostly the older 3-12x and 6-24x Elite Tactical stuff at this point. However, the DMR, XRS, and LRHS/LRTS lines have never done me wrong and have always punched well above their class. I was kind of considering getting a few more to round out my rifles that still need glass. They’re the best “value” optics out there, IMO.

But as 308Pirate says, if their day in the sun is over because idiots deemed it so, then the market (and I) will have to shift and someone else will take their place. Values on used models will either soar because you can’t get them new anymore (unlikely), or they’ll tank because nobody’ll be there to honor the warranty (unless they plan to support them for a while with parts) and buying one will become somewhat of a gamble. A distant third option could be they spin the rifle optics division off and someone buys them out. Only time will tell.

The answer could be 'both' honestly - Vista/Revelyst sells off all of the shooting/hunting related Bushnell product lines to a new parent company (leaving only Golf under Vista/Revelyst, making Dough right), but the new parent of the shooting/hunting side continues on with the ET and other product lines under the new umbrella (making George right).

It makes no sense for Revelyst to just shut it all down when they could sell it off to a different investor/holding company for a quick buck.

Disclaimer: I know jack and shit about what's going on over there, all of my contacts are long gone. This is just my personal speculation as an outsider looking in.

Yeah, that was basically my option three. Just depends on how they want to do it, but that’s the option I’m hoping for.

Given Vista's history of selling off brands when they're done with it, I think that should be option #1 on your list.

I guess the “order” of my list was merely to keep the list tidy lol. They’re all possible outcomes was my point, but yes, I suppose if I was numbering them in order of possibility I should have listed it as the first. :)

Just stumbled across this thread. Friday morning I was just about to pull the string to buy a Bushnell. The brand I wanted was perennially out of stock. Naturally, Friday morning, they come in stock. Great right? Wrong, my card company puts a freeze on my account over a certain amount. Finally, got through to the card company, got that squared away and then the scope company and was able to purchase the last scope they had with the preferred power and reticle. If I had not purchased that last scope, it would have been a Bushnell (assuming Bushnell is/was still around).

So, looks like Bushnell is on the Fritz. What about RCBS? They have been a mainstay in the reloading industry since well before I started reloading in 1970 or so. Now, the loss of that company would seem to have a greater influence on the shooting industry than perhaps any other single brand. (NDIH, I use a lot of RCBS products, but my presses are from Dillon, Redding and Lyman).

I hate these corporate conglomerates. They seem to be dedicated to buying up good companies, run them into the ground by destroying the quality of the product, by cutting everything but quality and then dumping the off to the trash bin.

Pretty much, take a good smaller company with a good established reputation, then cut costs and quality as much as possible and expand the product line into as many new areas as possible, reap max profits, and then dump it when the consumer figures it out and sales tank.
