Hi Everyone,

I am in need of some help from the community!

I recently purchased several night vision scopes from an estate sale and looking to see if anyone knows the value of them? All the packages seem to be mostly complete and I powered all the devices up and they do work! I have a friend who is interested but we don't know their value.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1) AN/PVS-1
2) AN/PAS-4
3) M1 Snooperscope?

the anpas4 should land anywhere if complete w/ all manner of attach stuff w/ hard foam carry Box..(.oh and what reticle is in it??)...$800.00 to 1000.00.....gen II are reported to be more clear than genII+/genIII.....

the reticle is actually a small lamp that screws into the front of the mirror.....there are about eight or so different types....even one for a stinger missle

Thanks for the help! I ordered the batteries.

Anyone know know a starting point on what these two units might be worth?

The top one is a pvs-1 a somewhat rare bird compared to the more common PVS-2. It was one of the first "starlight scopes" that used only passive/ambient light to produce images. It has internal sight manipulation and mounts on the left side of the weapon and not on the centerline. Somewhat awkward it was eventually phased out. The intensifier tube is a Varo cascade tube that takes 2 gen I tubes and mounts them in series to produce an exceptional gain and clarity. Not really anything much like a Gen I much better at the price of size and weight. The PVS-1 is rarer and commands about 700.00 in the market. With the m16 attachment you have a good unit although dated. It still rocks if the reticle is cleaned of the balsam resin that was used to attach the .50mm reticle glass that has deteriorated over time to make the view brown and discolored. The cleaning is internal to the intensifer tube not on the outside.

Lol no. PAS-4 is not PVS-4... PAS-4 is gen0, Active IR unit from the 50s/60s.

Never saw or sold a PVS1 , sold some 2's in the long, long ago...

PVS4 is going to be different than what you have there.

I remember seeing an "active" unit in the desert in the 80's, one of the old SF guys brought out this huge honking Q beam with an IR filter on it and spotted for us while we attempted to tell brush from people at 10 yards.... I remember thinking "damn I see better than this at eye with the Mark 1 eyeball."

In the early 90s I looked through some Russian night vision binoculars for about 45 seconds and then I had a crazy headache for the next hour. "I think it gave me a brain tumor already."

After the quote "fall of communism" unquote, their was all kinds of stuff coming out of the republics and former Warsaw pact countries. Cheap gear, cheap ammo, etc.

Early to mid 90's there was a ton of Russian "breakalotski" various devices on the surplus market, some better, most worse. The FDA considered (or perhaps did, can't remember) banning the importation of at least a couple devices due to eye safety concerns.

The one good thing about Ukraine is that it’s showing us just how far behind Russian tech really is. Without the threat of nukes, they’re nothing but a paper kitten.

I wouldnt necessarily underestimate the Russian's capabilities. Hitler did and it did not work out well for him. Napolean did and it did not work out well for him as well. American Neo Cons are doing the same thing. I doubt it will work out well for the Neo Cons or the general humanity for that fact.

American Neo Cons have made the grave mistake of forcefully pushing Russia into the arms of the Chinese, when we could have easily had them allied with the US against China. Victoria Nuland and that group are nothing but warmongers dead set on starting a war with the Russians.

I wonder if a $600 dollar Russian 152 mm shell hurts as much as a NATO $3 to $9K Nato Shell. I'm sure the BIG GUY has to get his 10% cut.

"A Russian 152mm shell costs $600, versus $3,000 to $9,000 for a NATO shell. Consequently, Russians are firing five artillery shells for every NATO-supplied shell fired by the Ukrainians. Equally disturbing, Russia has been jamming the GPS signal guiding HIMARS or Excalibur shells costing $240,000 each."

Orwell really laid it out in 1984 when it was three socialist spheres fighting each other and sometimes switching sides to get advantage.

Oceania, East Asia and Eurasia.

As Wherenowandhow said- we have pushed "Eurasia" into alliance with East Asia.

Hell, the Russians are even producing way more shells than all of NATO can provide.

The unfortunate citizens of Ukraine are simply being used as Cannon Fodder for the western Neo Con MIC.

Exclusive: Russia producing three times more artillery shells than US and Europe for Ukraine
Russia is producing about 250,000 artillery munitions per month, or about 3 million a year, according to NATO intelligence estimates of Russian defense production shared with CNN, as well as sources familiar with Western efforts to arm Ukraine. Collectively, the US and Europe have the capacity to generate only about 1.2 million munitions annually to send to Kyiv, a senior European intelligence official told CNN.

Same o same o. Political thugs killing innocent people that really just wanted to live a decent life all while they are war profiteering.

Nice score. I've got some 57E's, one tip, if your eyes start getting itchy after use, there is a very good chance they used thoriated glass on em. So I'd limit your use of em, lest you want eye cancer. If you have an alpha particle detector you can check it, but itchy/red eyes are the "poor mans" alpha detector.

Many Kodak, Fuji and Asahi Takumar lenses that were produced prior to the 1970s are radioactive.[2]

Kodak = Camera. Hell everyone had a Kodak back in the day. No wonder so many Americans die of cancer.

Aint NUFFIN SAFE NO-Mo.

Back then, a lot of stuff was considered carcinogenic. Even things like X-rays and microwaves had a touch of radioactivity to them.

So thoriated glass is no big deal when used on the front optics of anything cameras, binocs whatever. Alpha particles are stopped by like a few inches of air, a piece of paper etc. The problem comes when they are used on the eyepiece optics and its a half inch from your eye.

High energy Xrays are a different issue and some gen0 and especially triple cascade gen1 units did generate those, not a huge deal if you are using something a few times a year for an hour or two, yes you will irradiate your noggin, but you will do that traveling on a commercial airliner or a million other ways. Most western gear eventually used leaded glass in the eyepieces or was refitted with it (PVS-1/2) to help with that.

I've seen the soviet stuff with and without thoriated glass used, so it varied, I have no idea as to why one unit would use it and another not. And to my knowledge their triple cascade stuff like 1pn34, 1pn58, etc. didn't use leaded glass.

So be careful out there kiddos.
