So I have a 6.5 creed barrel on order from craddock. Just for fun more than anything, I'm thinking about picking up a blank and having WTO chamber a 7 saw for me. Anyone have any experience running that in a gas gun?

I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing. I need to do an analysis of the newer .308 bullets compared to what can feasibly be shot with 7mms from 7mm SAW before going down that road.

Comparing Berger 168gr in both diameters, the 7mm 168s are in the .618 - .628 G1, whereas .30 cal 168s are in the .507 - .515 G1.

7mm SAW spits 168gr at 2850fps from a 26” barrel bolt gun, so I’m more interested in what it will do from 13.7” - 16” suppressed.

Using a .308 internal ballistics engine and changing the diameter to .284”, setting the baseline at 2850fps with a 168gr on 42gr of powder, then changing the barrel length to 13.7”, I get an estimated mv of 2509fps, falling in a range between 2460-2559fps.

If we put the 140gr 7mm VLD (.5 G1) in there on the same charge weight, the 13.7” does 2728fps.

I really like those numbers.

7mm-08 is probably the friendliest/easiest deviation from the .308 in the AR-10 due to minimal change in bore volume. It does drop some, but not like the 6.5s. 7mm-08 isn’t overbore by any stretch, but a happy medium of bore ratio.

Since I would be shooting suppressed 100% of the time, I would locate the gas system far forward and port it maybe a bit tight, or normal with a Rifle Speed AGB.

My Savage MSR-10 would be the ideal candidate for it I think.
