What Happened The Last Time Two Eclipses Formed A Giant “X” Over The New Madrid Fault Zone?

It's the end of the world for sure . We just had an earthquake. The eclipse is today. The locusts/cicadas are going to have a mega event this year too.

An earthquake rider on most homeowner's insurance policy can be very cheap to the cost of replacing one's house.

The moon passes over every day. About every 6 months it casts a shadow somewhere on Earth. How the fuck does a shadow cast in a certain area 8 years apart cause earthquakes?

I am not an astronomer nor a geologist but could it be something to do with the combined gravitational pull of the sun and the moon during an eclipse? Could that cause a shift with the plates? IDK, I'm just asking the question.

No. There are earth tides every single day from the passing of the moon overhead. During an eclipse, it's no closer or farther away than it ever is from earth in its elliptical orbit. I'm a geophysicist that studies earthquakes. There are excellent videos out there explaining orbital mechanics and when and how eclipses happen. Articles like the OP posted are typical tabloid garbage.

It mentioned the 1806 eclipse and then I think another in 1811 before the New Madrid earthquakes. I'd have to look them up to see where their paths crossed, but again, that's 5 years apart and the moon passed overhead every other day if those 5 years without incident. It's just clickbait.

Even click-bait can be (by accident) informative . It mentions the Pons-Brooks comet makes it's 71 yea pass-by, and right now is the window for viewing . So i need to get the NV out with some magnification to take a look, as the last time it passed-by on it solar orbit I was not born yet.

Well, we are still alive in the New Madrid fault zone area of Missouri. The 4 minutes of total eclipse had no ill effects. We had another eclipse in 2017 with no issues either.

In 1990 Dr. Iben Browning, a scientist in New Mexico, stated that conditions for an earthquake were 'favorable' in the New Madrid fault area due to the moon orbiting the closest to the Earth that it would pass in many years. He said the gravitational forces could trigger an earthquake. It was as a farce, but brought much attention and visitors to our area.

But unfortunately many people don’t know there an earthquake fault zone in the middle of the country.
Sure thing, people are ignorant and our schools suck, and New Madrid is a sleeping giant of a fault zone who rarely wakes but has great wrath when it does. But ignorant is lacking of knowledge, stupid is claiming or believing two eclipses several years apart making an "X" over a fault is going to create an earthquake. This is some next level stupidity.

Just looking around that website's articles over the last couple days' worth of posts, it's soothsayer proselytizers like that whom give Christians a bad name. That's some serious third shift AM talk radio level tin foil going on there.

This is why I love this forum. One minute you read someone reposting tinfoil hat fear porn, and the next thing you know a geophysicist enters the chat to tell the OP he's full of shit.

I've been a member here a loooong time and have been working in earthquakes for 20 years now. I usually stay out of posts like this, but I was feeling salty yesterday for some reason. No disrespect meant. Just trying to drop a bit of knowledge.

If you really want to be depressed about the state of our education system, read Facebook comments on scientific posts. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Around here, you’d get a better reception talking about the truth of the flat earth theory, how that jives with the hollow earth theory, and the use of giant didgeridoos- by the ancient Egyptians- to build the pyramids.

If the earth were flat would we still have to worry about the corriolus effect?

What do you mean “if?”
