PWS MK114 history lesson needed

I’m considering either the MK114 Mod 1 or Mod 2. I could save a considerable amount of money going with the Mod 1, but I know PWS has made upgrades to the Mod 1 over the years. Since I know I’m getting it through a drop shipper there’s no telling if it’s really new or NOS. I don’t want to get one without a free float barrel. I obviously would be safer just getting the Mod 2. However I like the traditional lower on the Mod 1. And no, not interested in piecing together something, my luck with that has never been good.

Does anyone know the concise upgrade history of the .223 Wylde MK114 Mod 1? I know the 10’s and 11’s are good guns, but this thread hopefully can be kept on point with .223 Wylde MK114 models.

No one? I’m in Oregon and the Measure 114 problem is heating up again. Don’t have an unlimited time to decide.

One of the changes is no forward assist on the Mod 2, I believe. I thought they were both free float though. Did you check their website?

Their website just brags how much better the Mod 1 is from prior. I’ve read where the earlier Mod 1’s didn’t have a free float barrel. It I can’t confirm that. PWS has continuously thrown upgrades out there with no real alerts. Reminds me what Beretta is doing with the 1301T. lol

Since I’m getting it through a drop shipper, I can’t be sure I’m not getting some NOS found in a warehouse somewhere.

I’m thinking I better just shell out the extra $400. I’ve never needed the assist.

I’m not familiar with this current round of nonsense. Are they outlawing complete firearms, or parts, or everything? What if you spent the money on some matched receiver sets, and you could order barrels, etc. later on?

Oregon trying to outdo California/Washingron/Illinois. 114, a ballot measure that made it to the ballot courtesy of Mr Bloomberg. It passed by a very slim margin thanks to the big city liberals voting with their feelings. Purely unconstitutional, and a rural judge ruled it so. The state extremely liberal AG is having fits trying to overturn his decision in order to get it enacted.

After doing a deep dive multiple angled search process, it appears that PWS started free float barrels with the Mod 1. Those Mod 0’s had quite a few problems. The disparaging comments by many owners of the early PWS pistons makes it look like a miracle the company survived the early years.

I've had two mod1 rifles from them. An mk116 and now the 114. Both were free floated. I picked up the 116 almost ten years. Bought a 114 a year or so ago to have parts interchangeability and evidently the updated them somewhere along the way. The gas system is longer on the 114. So I sold the 116 and I'll get another 114 upper later. Neither rifle has ever choked on me.

I doubt you'll find an old non floated one in inventory anywhere at this point.
