Which one is the most iconic sniper rifle to have? And why does that one stand above the others?

I have a client that wants me to put together a "sniper rifle" for them. They know nothing about shooting, but they have deep pockets and want the iconic end-all-be-all sniper rifle so they can brag to their buddies about it. I have access to most popular distributors and wholesalers in the US. This rifle will need to be available there.

The models listed in the poll are what I narrowed it down to. I could almost flip a coin and be just as happy with any of them, but my client will want to know which one is "the best" and why.
I will not build a custom rifle. This guy isn't patient, nor does he care about bang for your buck. He wants the best "sniper rifle" in the most Hollywood way you can imagine.

    Requirements:
Price: Under $6000 retail for just the rifle. Have to draw a line somewhere.
Caliber: They want it in 6.5CM for the lighter recoil, factory availability of ammo, and ability to hit at 1000yds consistently.
Scope: They already have a ZCO 4-20 per my recommendation, because they asked me what the best all around scope was under $5k and that was my opinion several months ago.

    Help me out gents.

    Cheers!

First of all, you might want to tell him that 6.5 Creedmoor is not a "sniper" round to begin with.

However, from your description of this client, he's got that in his mind for whatever reasons and he will not capitulate.

I voted for the AI only because that is probably the brand most widely used among actual snipers be it either the Police for Military. So I assume the consultants in Hollywood would key in on that.

$6K is not ‘deep pockets’ when it comes to Sniper Rifles.

It will get you an AT-X fixed stock in 6.5.
My vote is AI because i have an AX in 6 and 308 and it’s the best in my opinion.
You forgot the mount which is very important, SPUHR or Eratac.

Build a clone of this... Cant beat the "black king" when it comes to movie sniper rifles.

"MR-30PG "Black King" rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor
The MR-30PG rifle has been the only rifle to ever win the Triple Crown of tactical shooting, and is featured as the Black King rifle on the "Shooter" cinema series."

How much did you vette this guy? Dude has thousands to spend as a be all end all but has no experience shooting? Something doesn't add up unless there's details you left out. OP, I'd be careful if I was you.
    I appreciate the concern.
He's a client of mine. I know him well.
He's an eccentric yet miserly retired millionaire.

Fair enough, just came off as odd.

On the other hand if he needs to spend money to feel happier I have a list of stuff I'd like. Who am I to not help someone else feel better

I'll be sure to let you know. ;)

My high roller clients are strange with their money. They'll gift someone a vehicle or an airplane, but then haggle over $10's in another situation. lol

Yes, thats it. D&L Sports did it. I would build a similar looking setup, basically any PRS rifle but with a scope cage/handle and then give it a name, maybe a couple personalized pieces like they did the grip. To people like your client Im guessing they would appreciate the individuality of it. Naming it makes it unique. Kind of like old drag cars from the 70's, they drove around town and had names on them... years later they are remembered because of. Creates kind of an aura around it.. No one would remember that rifle from "Shooter" if it didnt have that name "Black king". It gave it that next level coolness..

    Good idea.
I'll show it to him and see if he wants it.
I'm trying to sell it for someone else right now, but they're trying to get almost what they paid for it, which is a lot!

I vote Barrett. I think it’s a little more recognizable to the average person than AI.

I also know someone who has deep pockets, doesn’t really know about long range, and purchased a semi auto Barrett 50 bmg. Not my cup of tea, but it seems like all his buddies and acquaintances who have seen or shot it thinks it’s the coolest thing ever.

Have you considered a TacOps? You might be able to explain to your client how big of deal those rifles are among the actual shooting community.

I've thought about that. I know he wouldn't want to wait, but they pop up often enough in the marketplace...
I also have an older TacOps that I could show him.

The token movie sniper rifle is a break-down 700 using cheap, “twist-in” rings for the appearance of a QD mount,

Leatherwood scope with fantasy reticle or plain crosshairs

Well... If he's overcompensating for his dick, he could always just buy an AI with a Hensoldt on top... Or a Cheytac M200 Intervention in .408 Cheytac, like from the movie Shooter with Mark Wahlberg... Or one of those "precision" 4MOA shooting Barret M82A1 rifles... 😂

So, what's the deal with the handicap shitter handrail on top that's blocking the elevation turret?

Duh, that Overblown Window-licker has one on his rifle for shooting Red Bullshit cans at 2,400 yards.

I own a MRAD and can’t say it’s an iconic rifle. The AW is iconic. TacOps green and black with the texture is iconic. A $6K budget isn’t iconic status.

I think with the MRAD's widespread adoption, it will probably move to iconic status eventually. I got really lucky in that my buddy left his with me for three months to do load development for. I like it, and it certainly changed my mind on the accuracy potential of the rifle and cartridge (300NM)...but I'm not enough of a fan to spend my own money on one. I don't know if they'll ever be the drool-inducer that the AI or even TRG M10 are (for me at least).

    +1 on TacOps and AW.

It's gotta be a take-apart and fit in a briefcase.

You know, half twist and the barrel is attached. A slide and loud click and the scope is attached. Maybe a bipod, too. Assemble, wait by the flashing neon lights on top of a tall building, scan the windows of the luxury hotel a half mile away and take the shot at Mr. Badguy...now take it apart and put back in the case while every fire alarm on the block is blaring as you casually walk right by all the popo.

    Guys saying tac ops.

You do realize that no one ..absolutely no one outside of a few on this site have any idea what they are. I have 2 and I have never met any one at the range who knew what they “are”.

When they ask a second time I say a custom 700 so they will walk away.

I have been questioned at the range more often than not about my AI’s and they ask “what’s that name again”..and they aren’t shooting poor guns

    Really?

I have some pretty cool rifles, but the one that gets the most comments is by far my TacOps.

I think people really love when they find out that it's built by the civilian armorer to the LASD SEB team, along with the suppressor.

They may not know what it is, but they automatically know that it's something special when they see it.

It's intended to be armor around your optic.
Pretty sure these guys came up with the concept. https://tacomhq.com/product/armor-optic/
I'd imagine its use case is for snipers spy-rigging from helos and stuff. lol
    It's beyond my speed.
Well... Nobody ever said Tacticool companies make realistic and practical shit... I bet they've sold 10's and 10's of those things. 😂

This is an extremely common occurrence. Many people either spend all their time making money, or all their money on other hobbies and then decide they want something from an industry they aren't familiar with. Not just firearms. Literally almost anything.
