Should I run a 6mm GB?

Do you want a killer deal on a 6mm prefit?

Here's the link to the GB Item on our website. It goes live on May 1 at 10am.
I'll push it on social media as well but I wanted it to be easy to find here too.

We moved the shop in January and in the tornado of activity that is a shop move we stuffed a whole batch of 6mm blanks in a dark corner and forgot where it was. When I couldn't find them we quickly made another batch knowing that at some point they would surface and we'd have a bunch of 6mm blanks.

That happened on Friday. Turns out they were in a crate at the pile of crates and pallets that each of us thought we had already looked through. Lo and behold... We have 98 extra 6mm blanks. (It was 100 but Ben just told me he's keeping 2 for himself)

So, rather than dribble them out here and there Ben suggested we run a Group Buy for the Hide at 15% off on 6mm options. The only way this works is to focus on a few calibers and streamline the process and do them all at once. So, that being said: Is there interest in it to make an endeavor worth it?

It would be any of our standard tenons on the everyday list with the following calibers, contours and finish lengths.
Calibers:
6 BR
6 BRA
6Dasher
6 GT
6XC (0.150 FB with Tubb print circa 2016, not 22-250 brass print)
6x47 Lapua
6 Creed
6 PRC (I doubt this is going to be all that popular but we have a 6 PRC reamer that Ben really wants an excuse to use)

Contours:
Bartlein 3B
Brux #5
Light/Medium/Heavy Palma
M24
MTU
Proof Comp

Muzzles:
No Threads
5/8-24

Flutes:
None, Spiral or Straight

Lengths:
18/20/22/24/26

I talked to Evans Customs and they're willing to offer a 15% discount on cerakote too.

If we do it, the GB will open on May 1st and run for 7 days (or when the 100 blanks run out). Lead time is 4 weeks from close of the GB, add 2 for cerakote and/or fluting.

So there, a prefit at 15% off and turn time of 4 weeks.

This sounds like something I wouldn’t be able to pass up

So what would be the out the door price on a 6x47 chambered for a impact

Are these Rock Creek or Osprey blanks? And like jmkjr above, otd price-ish?

I'll probably be one of the wierdos that picks up a 6 PRC... and also another 6 GT barrel for when I burn the current one out

Depends on options. Base price, with muzzle threads is $690 less 15% so $586.50 plus $24.95 shipping and insurance.
If you want fluting and cerakote it gets more expensive. I'm assuming you want muzzle threads, they're only $35 upcharge when ordered with the barrel to start because we have to do all the other handling and dialing work anyway for the muzzle. Cutting threads is fast on the CNC and I encourage people to get muzzle threads if they have any suspicion that they're going to use them at some point.

The question is which 6mm and why not XC?
Because I forgot to put it on the list when I was typing the initial post, nothing more. I'll fix that now.

They're Ospreys, which is why I said "we made more"
Why the shade on 6mm prc?
No shade, it's just not particularly popular amongst folks because it's so aggressive on barrels. Frankly, I think it's pretty cool, especially when loaded with my 100gr Seneca going 3600+ fps but even on sale guys still are inclined to complain about barrel life.

Twist Rate?
7 and 7.5, there are some of each.

Add the “Heavy MTU (MTU Shape Pattern with 1.12" Muzzle Diam” contour and I’m in
I will consider it, but I won't promise it. I do need to streamline options to make this something that we can get through in the promised timeframe.

Fatter barrels take less time to contour?

Confirm that your 6XC reamer works with Tubb's dies, and I'm in for two 26" Med Palma for an AT-X. I suppose that has already been answered but, I'd like to make sure of my reading comprehension.

Hmm, XC CM GT BR or Dasher for just shooting steel not necessarily competing with a CDG+AW magazine. 🤔 each seems to have their own annoyance.

Or ARC I guess. I already have ARC just haven’t really played with it.

Sorry for the noob question but do you do terminus quick change tennon threads and 6 dasher 120 freebore?

I can't say. This is one of the problems with the XC is that there are so many iterations of the chamber and dies that have come from Tubb and Whitley over the years that it's difficult to say what one vs the other happens to be dimensionally. What I can say is that I have the print referenced above which is the 6XC-II as published by Tubb in 2016 and I lengthened the freebore to 0.150" to account for different bullets that are on the market.

We do Terminus Quick Change and the Dasher reamer I use is 0.110 freebore
The difference between 0.110 and 0.120 is about the same as a dark curly hair... aka It's meaningless unless you find it in your mashed potatoes.

I would run anything but an XC because of brass availability. The CM is the easy button there. You can use a regular AICS mag in a CDG too.

Would you be able to do ARC CDG prefits in 6gt? Also is proof comp contour the heaviest y'all do in this GB?

I am fairly certain this is one of their standard tenon options, they were one of the first to offer CDG prefits when the action was released. Personally got a 22GT and 6GT. Great quality on both

I've been looking at 22GT how do you like yours?

Mine touch on the new extractor 🥲

Its been good and I like the rifle/cartridge quite a bit. I have about 300 rounds on the barrel getting things broken in and some powder testing. Groups well enough to know that when I finish load development it will be a shooter, especially with basically using untouched virgin brass for these first 300 rounds. Using 88 ELD-M, N555, CCI450 and Alpha brass ands it nice having "cheaper" components compared to 6mm, 6.5mm or 7mm projectiles. Doesn't seem to like (group well) with my CGS hyperion on, but I do not think its anything barrel, cartridge or component related. Likely just needs to be tuned in better.

Haven't started yet but also going to try 62gr TTSX with 6.5 Staball

@netcat is correct, we launched the CDG prefits first and it's a standard barrel on our list.

I can fix that, it doesn't happen often but I don't get control of anything on the action so I just take care of them if it happens. Please hit me up in an email josh@ (patriotvalleyarms.com) and I'll organize with you to get it taken care of. Our programs for the CDG have been long modified to account for the new extractor and I thought all of the old barrels had been either shot out or modified already. If you have something that needs a quick fix we'll take care of it.

Sign me up….I will take the following if this happens

20” 6GT… .170 freebore reamer if you have one if not the .120 is ok
7 or 7.5 twist
Threaded for a origin
Muzzle treaded 3/4-24
No cerekote
1.25” straight or as close as you have

I’d buy another 6 creed short throat or 2.
For a tikka. 22 inch proof comp. Even better if 3/4 threads but I’ll live with 5/8

Find some 1:7 224 blanks too I need me a 223 or 2.

Maybe 6 Dasher in either 28" Medium Palma for Steel Safari...or 26" Comp contour for PRS matches.
1:7.5" because altitude reasons

But I would do a 22GT in anything 1" diameter or heavier and 7+ lbs in a heartbeat.

I genuinely LOL'd and Ben walked by my desk at the same time... now he's looking at me like I'm off my rocker.

Let's see how this goes off. Maybe we'll run a 22 specific GB later in the year.

Do you have a Dasher reamer compatible with Alpha brass? I see options for Norma and Lapua on the website.

Maybe I should state my preference. 26” proof comp., 6BR, for Nucleus, threaded muzzle.

I think I'm in for a 6PRC, I kinda like barrel burner. I have found that many "barrel burners" aren't so bad if run below full throttle. It tickles the shit outa me to burn out a barrel... It means I getta get another one. insert smiley face.---------- chit that didn't work
