Hi, all.

Anyone know of good shops of repute that can work on older fixed magnification Leupold Mk4 and Ultra scopes? Basically I have a couple such scopes with a different issue specific to each one, and would like to Frankenstein's monster them to consolidate the issues into one scope and get the other one fully good. The specific work I'm looking to do is to swap out reticles and ocular housings between the scopes, then purge with nitrogen and re-seal them back up. Apparently this falls under custom work for Leupold and their custom shop has been closed "temporarily" for years now.

Thanks for any leads.

Just buy a new scope. Will be cheaper and less headaches in long run. Hell a used mk4 would be cheaper.
The problem is Leupold doesn't make a scope with the Firedot Duplex reticle and with MIL based turrets.

I happen to think the Firedot Duplex reticle is the best reticle for hunting, but I also like MIL based turrets when dialing for elevation.

I love the scope, but it's the one thing I wish was different about it. It's not a deal breaker, but if I could have the turrets converted for $200 or less I would do it.

Why? Who cares what subtentions the turrets have if the reticle doesn't have any? Write the dope down in MOA and dial it. It's the same procedure.

There is a VX5hd 3-15x56 model with Mil turrets and Firedot reticle.
There used to be a Firedot TMR retcile in the VX6 (non-HD) and there is a Firedot TMR reticle in some models of the Mark3HD.

A Firedot TMR 2-12x42 would be a nice hunting scope.

Yea like I said it's not that big a deal, it's just one of those little annoyances that I wish was different. Every other scope I own the turrets are MILS. Yeah I know just a matter of dialing in .25s instead of .10s. I care enough I would pay $200 or less, but not enough to pay more if I could have them converted.

Let's get this thread back on target.

Yes, even current production hunting scopes are probably better quality and functionality than old fixed "tactical" scopes, but I'm mainly trying to address the issues with a couple of L&S Ultra scopes that I have. The Ultras have their own historical value to me, and I want to keep them, but also make them as usable as I can.

With that, Leupold will not service or swap out parts between scopes supplied to them. I just called and asked, so that's a confirmed big NO. They do not have any parts for these older fixed Ultra and Mk4 scopes anymore, and opening them up might bring up other issues.

So still looking to see if another shop has the know-how and ability to take these scopes apart and swap the reticle (complete housings) and ocular pieces. They *should* be compatible between the scopes, all being fixed power Ultra or Mk4 scopes.

And would prefer keeping it in the US, due to shipping and any regulation restrictions.

Thanks.

Sorry, OP I did not mean to derail your thread. Good luck in your endeavors!
