They seem to be legitimate. I had YouTubed what's going on in the primer/powder world and their inventory video from a few weeks ago popped up. Their YT channel is active.

If you’re a prime member at Target Sports USA, today they’re having 12% off select products.
Looks like primers are discounted. A case of CCI 450’s is $375 + hazmat/shipping.

there's 8# of RL16 for $420 and 9# of H4831SC for $400 private sale in/near SLC, UT if anybody is local

Is it me, or is it easier and cheaper to find powder local now than online? It used to be the other way around, meaning the local guys were trying to gouge higher prices than the online guys. Now I can get RL16 local about $100 cheaper than online. Same with H4350, Varget, and several other powders, $50 cheaper than online

In Texas I've been on a lot of work trips stopping into LGS and seeing overall higher prices on powder but I've been scoring normal prices on 210m and 215m

I.e. $80 for a lb of varget but $11 per 100 of 210Ms

Free shipping (still have to pay hazmat) over 99 bucks at PV except for you guys in Alaska and Hawaii .

Quite a few places getting 8# containers of H1000 this morning... Natchez, Grafs, Midway, and others.

FWIW, I have had great SD and accuracy with those RUAG primers. They (at least my lot) seem to be just a smidge larger than 450s. Nice when you get a lot of firings on your brass.

Accurate 2520

Just to reintroduce it in short order at a 40% increase right? That’s some MBA thinking right there.

Lol! Or they'll pull their other trick of lowering the price $25 but packaging it in the 5# jugs instead of the 8# jugs.

Powder Valley is still sitting on 194 8# jugs of RL16 at $475... Keep in mind they had about 283 jugs in stock in the middle of February, and they only moved a little of it when they had a "sale" on it for $425 in mid March, so they really aren't moving their RL16 inventory that fast.

Let's see if that post and the apparent impending unavailability of alliant powders gets that inventory to move...

I love me some RL16 and AR Comp, but it looks like when my current inventory is depleted, I might be switching powders.

First things first, so @Dogtown doesn't scold me...

Still in stock and available...

Now...

"A worldwide shortage of nitrocellulose..."

Does that mean they can't get it? Or they can't make enough?

I figured most manufacturers of gunpowder made NC in house... I know VihtaVuori does. And I can't imagine there would be a giant pool of shippers willing to ship the finished product anyway.

And it's made from 3 freakin' ingredients... That you can order online. Hell, Amazon probably sells all 3. You can make it in your kitchen. (Yes I realize industrial scale and quality differ from homemade. But it's still 3 readily available ingredients.)

So is Vista saying Alliant doesn't have the capacity to make enough NC? Or are they saying they can't get cotton/wood pulp, and 2 readily available acids?

I know, tinfoil hat and all that. But after the last few years and Vista's track record of actually telling the truth... I have some doubts.

Carry on.

Both can't import enough nor produce enough (to satisfy both retail consumer demand and military demand). China, India, Thailand are the top 3 largest exporters of nitrocellulose. Global demand is through the roof and nitrocellulose is used for more than just gunpowder.

EU companies exporting nitrocellulose to support the Russian military
Despite EU sanctions prohibiting exports to the Russian military, there are reports that European companies are still supplying the Russian military with nitrocellulose, a substance critical for the production of artillery ammunition that primarily causes civilian collateral damage.

According to reports in the media[1], Russian imports of nitrocellulose increased by 70 % in 2022 and stood at 3 039 tonnes in mid-2023, almost double the 2021 level. Only a handful of companies, based in the USA, Türkiye, China and Germany, produce the substance, and according to the reports, EU-based companies are among those producing the nitrocellulose that is later shipped to Russia.

Moreover, the exponential increase in imports of the substance by Russia has created scarcity on the international market and has led to delays in the production of artillery ammunition by NATO countries.

  • 1.Is the Commission aware of EU-based companies supplying nitrocellulose to the Russian military, and will it incentivise official investigations on the basis of the reports made by reputable media outlets?
  • 2.Will the Commission incorporate its findings into guidance to help the Member States identify the entities involved in the breaches and coordinate appropriate steps, including by proposing sanctions on the individual companies supplying the nitrocellulose through third parties?

Nitrocellulose Market Size, Share & Trends Analysis Report By Application (Automotive Paints, Wood Coatings, Printing Inks), By Region (Asia Pacific, Europe, North America), And Segment Forecasts, 2023 - 2030
Asia Pacific dominated the industry in 2022 and accounted for the maximum share of more than 45.55% of the overall revenue. This is attributed to a rise in the product application scope in the paints and coatings sector. Countries like Thailand, India, and China are the largest producers as well as exporters. Trade and use of nitrocellulose in these countries are high because of its use in products like printing inks, automotive paints, wood coating, and leather tanning & finishes. With the growing tourism sector & construction industry and improved standard of living, the demand for wooden items is anticipated to increase in countries like the U.S. and Canada, which is anticipated to boost the product demand in the North America region.
