Just got back from the range and disappointed once again in Hornady 6.5 prc 147 loads. Last two rounds in the box both blew the primer. I didn’t see it after the first one otherwise I would have stopped. Hopefully nothing hurt the action.

Anyways, looking for some suggestions for other factory 6.5 prc you have had good luck with. Also, I remember reading somewhere hornady had put out some questionable 6.5 prc ammo recently. Is this still the sentiment?

Contact Hornady with the batch number on the ammo and see if it was a bad batch.

The action will be fine, but you need to inspect the firing pin for damage. While you're there check the chamber, make sure there isnt a carbon ring or something in the chamber causing an over-pressurization.

I had a 6.5PRC hunting rifle built specifically for Hornady 143gr ELDX Precision Hunter ammo... Have only ever shot factory ammo through it.

Buying 400 rounds at a time since 2021 when it arrived.

Unfortunately, the ammo has been getting more and more erratic (accuracy, ES and SD wise) over the last few years... Really unimpressive now, it used to shoot almost consistently 1/2 MOA groups.

This ammo has also proven to be quite dirty, creating carbon rings fairly quickly in the proof carbon barrel.

Shame.

I have used the factory Berger 156gr EOLs, Berger Elite Hunter 140gr, Norma 143gr Bondstrike and Golden Target with good results in 2 rifles and mediocre results in 2 others.

The two rifles are a Alamo Precision Maverick Light 22" and a X-Bolt SPR 22" , the mediocre other 2 are a X-Bolt Hunter 22" and a X-Bolt Long Range 24".

FTR, could not get any Hornady ELD or Barnes LRX to shoot out of any of the rifles.

I'm glad I found this thread ,I was starting to think I was the only one experiencing this,I'm using the 143eldx hunter ammo and to be honest it shoots phenomenal but after roughly 20 shots the groups really open up and if you push it to around 40 shots the barrel and brake is so badly carbon fouled that it starts to show some velocity rise and slight pressure signs ,I've gotta admit its been years since I've run factory ammo but it was more cost effective to buy it that start with fresh components and reload, is this filthy carbon fouling the norm with hornady or just a bad lot ,this lot is dated 2023
