Hadn’t thought of that ….great point ! We had room to stretch in the South China Seas and the Tonkin Gulf.
Up North they had Junks all over keeping up with ships movements. The Connie never directly avoided them….Junks can move most rickey tick when 90K tons is bearing down.
We went up the Persian Gulf in 1974 and sea space was a sorta concern. But Vietnam was winding down , the Navy didn’t see a problem. That said …I remember when the Old Man got on the 1-MC late that night we entered the Gulf.

Well, looking back in hindsight, the Nagasaki bomb was not really needed because at the time of that bombing, Hirohito was in Tokyo with his staff in the process of surrendering. Obviously we didn't know that at the time and we also knew Japs were very well known for never surrendering. So yeah, personally I'm of the mindset that if we didn't drop those 2 bombs, the war would've gone on longer and more lives lost.
However, there in one major problem I have with nuking Japan that made the whole world a worse place to live. It brought the world Kawaii culture!
