I'm loading up 2500 or so rounds for a belt fed 1919, using cloth belts. When I seat the bullet to 2.8" (actually 2.790") I'm still .06" or so short of the cannelure. If anybody can measure a NATO ball/FMJ round for me and tell me the OAL, that would be great.
I may have a mix of pulled/new 308 and 30-06 bullets and I do have a mix of FMJ, API, AP and tracer bullets. This does complicate things, but if I get the OAL for a FMJ, I can go off of the ogive for the others.

All the sources I can find state 71.1mm or 2.799" for NATO ball ammo.

Thanx guys. I guess I'm OK with what I've got, I'll just ignore the cannelure. I just didn't want to get all 2500 belted up and find them too long.

Maybe you should load to the cannelure. They are not randomly placed for cosmetic reasons.

These might have been for the 30-06, and I'm loading into a 308. That might explain the cannelure difference

What do these bullets weigh? Were they surplus or "pulls"?
The 1919 isn't too picky on COAL, but it does want the right energy level to run smooth.

If you have the chance to test a small batch of say 30 rounds before you run off 2500, you should be able to tell if your recipe is going to cause trouble.

The incendiary's are 140gr the other 147-150gr. I'm running 44 gr of WC 844 (H335) or 46gr WC 846 (BLC-2). Testing isn't an option as the gun is 1250 miles away.
I have tried soft point bullets in the 1919 before and that was a FAIL!
