Had a fraternity brother have this happen to him while hang gliding in the mid-70's. Jumped of Sandia Peak in ABQ and and got sucked up into an anvil and either froze to death or suffocated. Found his body in Rio Rancho.
I was thinking the same thing, I remember that guy. Had a friend who took off the crest the same day but headed east and landed in edgewood....Heard about the other guy the next day.

Those were 5” destroyer rounds. When things were starting to get really messy on Omaha Beach, a couple of destroyer captains completely disobeyed orders and risked tearing the bottoms out of their ships in order to get in close and get their guns on target. Some of them were just 2 to 300 yards from the beach and couldn’t miss. It helped tip the balance.

If I remember right one cruiser captain actually flooded one whole side of his ship, allowing his guns to depress enough to hit the beaches.

That said if someone wants to say it’s a 45, who am I to argue.
That was the Battle Ship Texas that flooded her off side ballasts in order to get more elevation on her guns and stay in the fight.

Battleship Texas flooded the starboard side in order to gain elevation to hit inland targets…

Got it in Norway 2012. Still 300+-miles to go to get to Nordkapp. Northernmost point in The world that you can ride or drive to! Way North of Deadhorse, Alaska!!

Sirhr

PS. Today’s ride before Pikes Peak was awesome. Met up with @Starbuck amd ran about 180 miles of Colorado canyons at really respectable speeds for adventure bikes! That boy can ride!!

Overall, spectacular day of riding!

If you get a chance take a spin through the San Juans from Durango to Ouray. IMHO the most beautiful part of CO.

Not a bad view for breakfast!

Cheyenne Mountain. Deep inside, they track Santa!!

PS. Just when you think the view can’t get any better the Thunderbirds start flying over getting ready for the Air Force Academy graduation tomorrow. If it doesn’t thunder and pour rain, I’ll be sitting on the deck at a retired Colonel’s House watching them front row while smoking cigars!!

@sirhrmechanic I second this one millyun percent. Last summers vacation was exactly this, Ouray for a few days then drive the million dollar highway to Durango for a few days and finish with a drive from Durango to Pagosa Springs on hwy 160 then back to the Denver area. The drive was just as amazing as the stuff we did while we were camping

It’s probably too early to do any hardcore exploring around Ouray, still snow at the highest elevations. The most notable, and world famous, are Black Bear pass and Imogene pass. Check out the hot springs there too

Biggest thing we did in Durango was Mesa Verde which was really cool too

My Uncle owned a grocery store , on the top of the cash register he kept some old obsolete beer cans.
He had 2 Billy Beers there until someone swiped them. Must have been 25 years old. Bad part is he found them both empty 😳 I’ve craved a cold beer before , but a hot Billy Beer is just wrong. 🤮

I scored a free bandsaw ❤️ a little work and she’ll be back in the fight.

That little Chinee band saw will last you your lifetime!
I bought one new maybe 30 years ago when that was the best I could afford.
I've done a little to it, like new motor and stiffened up the frame and new wheels on back but damn it's been a good little saw.
It's cut tons of iron and still cuts true and square.
Thing I like about it is you can set, say a 3x3x1/4 square tube in it and flip the switch and walk away. It will be cutting whily I am working on something else.
Like having your own little helper monkey in the shop!
Good score!
