Happens all the time. Creator gets investors, they then have the ultimate control. Often the new owners think they know everything, and do not need the originator. So they 86 him, cut costs as much as they can, and typically run the company into the ground. Before long the company is dead, or is sold.

I actually have one of their suppressor holsters that indexes off the weapon light on one of my rigs; seems like they’re pretty creative and make good stuff.

"The Botkin Clan" is much, much bigger than a plastic holster company. There's a for-profit church, a restaurant, books, media, and other affiliated businesses. The businesses are staffed by the flock- but they better be humble. There are "The Botkin Sisters" who do reality TV, "Botkin Brothers" who make holsters for the camera orsomethignlikethat... etc...
The whole story about how this kid became the Steve Jobs of plastic holsters with a batcave full of ninja gear through hard work and commitment is fun. I dig it.

The father is not the CEO, they hired an outside the family person to run the company day to day (in the last year).
Lucas started the business out of his garage. He needed capital to expand and raised money twice, the first time was his dad and brother. The second time was outside the family and a more traditional business investment. They have the typical legal structures for exiting the company and that is what Lucas chose to do.
Since they talked about it twice, someone working for the company sent inappropriate pictures (let your imagination run wild) to someone close to Lucas (wife or sister). Lucas was pissed that the company did not immediately dismiss the picture sender. He left TREX and is going to start his own company away from TREX (there will clearly be some amount of competition and overlap). The picture sender was subsequently fired over the incident. Several key employees have also left with Lucas (Brantley Merriman sp) for instance.
The first time I started a business, it was with others people money so I had to deal with them. I sold the business at my earliest opportunity so that I could basically do it again without the hassles of external investors.
I think that Lucas has literally drawn hundreds of thousands of people into the 2A community over the last 10 or 12 years via his videos. I hope he continues to make content and continues his fight for the 2A.
